I finally installed Justin and Aven. Justin borrows Aven's outfit for this scene. The shirt is shiny. I like how male genesis can wear female clothing. I had to hide the bra strap. :p I need to fix the lighting. I'll do that tomorrow.

edit: i forgot to mention that I received a duplicate ID error when I loaded the Aven necklace.

Just a quickie- I saw this on a blog. Made me think:
Goals are Dreams with a Deadline
Someone is Praying for the Blessings You Take for Granted

Just wanted to say that Aven, with the hair and outfit, is unbelievably SLOW.
I didn't have to tweak the hair so far as I can tell. It's hard to tell with what's come in. I tried her with the same Predatron lights (daylight) and her hair looks too light, and I had dumbed down the lights quite a bit. So you won't be seeing Aven tonight, that's for sure. Will have to redo and again, she is rendering slower than molasses.

It is neat when they have the unisex clothing :)
When you get the lighting fixed, just take the other render off and put the other one in it's place. Justin looks like fun- I haven't rendered him yet.

And S.N- love those muscles and tattoos! I'll put the link of your post next to the product in a list, so folks can find it fast.

    Denver hair:
    http://www.daz3d.com/denver-hair

Denver hair looks best to me- for distance work. It has a lot of movement to it, so it would work for underwater scenes. Up close unfortunately I feel the crown of the head has a painted on look which makes it less realistic to me. It comes with a lot of styles which is quite nice. I just wish the hair above the forehead had more detail and a few strands and the hair had a less clumpy appearance

If anyone is interested Forbidden Whisper's store appears to be 60% off right now. You can use your PA coupon also on the store for another additional discount.

Wow, that's a good discount! I agree about Denver Hair. It looks painted on at the crown/top of the forehead/top.
Aven (SIGH) is still rendering. And it's only a 500 pixel render.

Daz did GREAT. I got that Ranger Bundle for $9.79 (tier 2)

Wanted to point this out: both of these vendors are in the promo. Wonder if you can use the Smile, then the Dental Plan, to make the teeth just slightly more varied. I don't think the Smile has enough variety as the front teeth don't change, but the Dental Plan would be good for that. I am getting Smile. (Have Dental) Just a thought. I hate the 3D teeth, they are so uniform and phony.
    http://www.daz3d.com/dental-plan-for-genesis
    http://www.daz3d.com/smile

That Aven render is really slowing down my computer. If she doesn't finish soon, forget it.

I'm doing this logically- I have my wishlist open in one tab, am starting at the top and clicking on the product, then seeing if it is in the PA list for 50% off. Here's what I am considering from my wishlist: (I'm tired of waiting on some of this, 50% is a good deal for things I want.
Putting them in cart then will edit. Definitely getting the first two.)

    http://www.daz3d.com/evidence-for-battle-maiden
    http://www.daz3d.com/informant-for-battle-guardsman

http://www.daz3d.com/shoxolor-for-duchesse-hair Heads up- for historical renders, the Duchesse Hair is gorgeous, and is also in the promos because it is by Swam. So you can get the colors and the hair, both at 50%

I have it, but here: http://www.daz3d.com/pc-anniversary-sale-week-5/duchesse-hair

    Continuing with the Shox-Design store-
    http://www.daz3d.com/shoxolor-for-wild-orchid-hair

This one makes the original look good.
    http://www.daz3d.com/shoxolor-for-martine-hair
http://www.daz3d.com/martine-hair (By Swam, so also 50%)

http://www.daz3d.com/shoxolor-for-infectious-hair I'm surprised, but I like this! (The black and red is somewhat goth, nice variety)
http://www.daz3d.com/infectious-hair (By Swam, so also 50%)

Follow me here- this is 40% off, and is a Daz Original. So you can use your $ off (mine is $50) if you want.
    http://www.daz3d.com/clarice-outfit
Then you get this for tier discount and it has great colors. (do in a DIFFERENT order and use the PA code) Good kit bashing. http://www.daz3d.com/triumph-for-clarice

Will check out some more and do a different post so it make it easier for those getting emails to just surf from there.

Thanks for the recommendations. Would have replied sooner but I had to sleep. Happily I have Stalker Girl hair, couldn't decide late at night on anything else though I kept going back to that jacket. I'll get it eventually, it looks versatile and it will take me a while to learn to make something with that level of detail.

Love the squirrel, by the way!

I have Smile! and love what it can do for the stock DAZ Original characters. Those smiles are so much better. Some of the characters have a wide range of smile presets to choose from, others not so many.

There are plenty of dials for individual adjustment but I haven't ventured there yet. I imagine it would also be possible to get good smiles on morphed characters but (as you'd expect) that will need fine-tuning with the sliders -- and there are a lot of them to experiment with.

There are 'snaggle tooth' and buck teeth sliders with Smile! so some variety there, though I don't have Dental Plan so don't know if they would play together nicely. I'll be interested to see what you come up with using them both, could be fun!

I'll let you know how they go together, it will be one of the first things I try. Good to know you like it, that's encouraging.
Aven is STILL rendering. 57% at 4 hours- ridiculous compared to what normally happens. It is a tiny render and I think the shading rate is .40

Before I forget, from SWAM- if you folks don't have Nordic Hair, I think it's a must have. You can use it on guys too. It goes on like a breeze, renders quickly, nice morphs. Also the Filippa Hair surprised me. I think I've showcased that on quite a few characters! From different angles, it can actually look somewhat elegant, to my surprise. THEY ARE BOTH 40% OFF and your discount will stack. So is Yunko Hair, that Seymour wears. Again, I was surprised that I love that hair- you can easily move it out of the eyes, and flatten the top part or curl it toward the front.

Anyway, here's a few more from my wishlist:
    http://www.daz3d.com/miko-hair

Go ahead and laugh. I ADORE this. It's a toy- and how many of those do we have? It's SO cute! (And nice lil props.)
    http://www.daz3d.com/kokeshi-sakura

http://www.daz3d.com/chrystalline-hair THIS IS ANOTHER DAZ Original, and is 40% off, and discount will stack. Wild and whacky! Good for sci-fi perhaps? Take a look at Propschick because there is a lot of hair and is co-owned by DAZ. MANY 40% off

Wanted to post this before I get some sleep (it's 4am, really 5am as the time change still hasn't kicked in for me, I'm still on the old time so far as my mind goes.) Anyway, for those underseas renders, this is the hair for you! It's 40% and in the promos. I'm am really thinking about getting this one, I need some "floating" styles. ITS ALSO A DAZ ORIGINAL

http://www.daz3d.com/scarlet-nights has a really nice color variety- from the darks to the pastel pink. A D.O. and already 40%

http://www.daz3d.com/modern-muses-jaide One of the few Modern Muses I don't have. Love that series! Heads up- many are 40% and as you know, Tamesis is a favorite of mine. She (and her bundle) are 40%. Remember the Venomwhip and Herdbeast Render with her at the front door of the mill? (EDIT: yes, very easy to light. Looks good in a wide variety of light settings.)

Hop on this one, I am really surprised it is 44% off and you can get 50% off that if you are tier 2. This is the light set Serene Night really likes, if I'm not mistaken. EDIT: NOPE, It's a new item. No further discount.

So I whittled it down and ended up with
    Smile!
    MIKO Hair
    Kokeshi Sakura
    Advanced DAZ Studio Light Bundle

I'm being a VERY good girl. Wanted those outfits but I can't justify it. Also have enough characters. The Kokeshi is my treat, the MIKO Hair is very unique and I need a good Eastern hairstyle. The light bundle is Serene Nights fault, what can I say? (I have so many of those, and I always do my own lights anyway. But maybe I'll use and tweak/add.)

Aven hair took about 9 minutes to render because I set shadow samples too high. I like how the clothes can scale to fit most humanoid characters of any size.

    My settings:

    Shadow samples: 16
    Shading rate: 0.50

For my DAZ $50, it was difficult to find anything that wasn't on my wish list, and those originally were "will maybe, someday, possibly, once in a while use these if I get very creative." But then again, that's what we all do, experiment, so I'm really getting some "kit-bashing-supersuit-under-these items." And some wild hair products. More importantly though, I got things that matched up with the promo stores on sale and that went together, focused on outfits and their textures, or hair and their textures. With both items on sale- the Daz $50 discount then the other product a promo store at 50% with an additional

    So I got:
    http://www.daz3d.com/clarice-outfit
(and will get the textures from a promo store, 50% off) http://www.daz3d.com/triumph-for-clarice

Might want to look at these to use with the supersuit/kit bashing
    http://www.daz3d.com/blood-bound
    http://www.daz3d.com/barbarian-princess

http://www.daz3d.com/more-goth-for-goth-chick (Have Goth Chick, and can mix and match with Piranha Outfit)

    http://www.daz3d.com/chrystalline-hair
and again, will get the texture from a promo store, 50% off http://www.daz3d.com/toxic-chrystalline

So my $50 of freebies is out of the way. Checkmark. I'm like everyone else, keeping up with this other stuff is a pain, and so is trying to see what's a D.O versus just a straight promo store. I've got the November PC $6 and the tier 2 $6, so I'm getting those out of the way shortly. I THINK I got all the Week 4 done. Argh.

BTW, keep in mind the DAZ Originals for Platinum Club members is 40% ONLY THROUGH TOMORROW, the 5th. That is an extra 10%
    What this means:

    1. If you are using your $ off (tier 2 is $50, tier 1 was ?) then doing it today and tomorrow will get you that additional 10% off.

    2. It also impacts your monthly PC Club code- that $6 off PLUS the extra 10% Those have to be Daz Originals.

    3. If you are getting $ off (tier 2 is $6, tier 1 is ?) then if you use it for Daz Originals you will get that additional 10% off.

Many of the featured vendors are co-Daz Originals. So what I had to think about was going ahead and picking some of those products for the monthly PC $6 off as that extra 10% ends after tomorrow- but their stores are good through the 15th. I looked to see if there were things OTHER than D.O's in the stores I would want that wouldn't be affected by the timeline of tomorrow.

Shopping shouldn't have to be so strategic, should it?!

I confess the sale and the store is sort of drives me nuts. =-) Too many coupons, and I still haven't used my week 4 coupon. Not ungrateful, just trying to find stuff to use 'em on.

I did use the $20.00 coupon on DAZ original fish. I bought the octopus, the lion fish, and the triggerfish for a total of 20.90 and paid only .90 cents. I thought I got a good deal...

But you know what? I could've gotten a much better deal with this: Sea life Pack 1 http://www.daz3d.com/sea-life-pack-1 which has quite a few fish for my buck, and is cheaper to boot. (minus the triggerfish).

I'll be honest with you, this is where the store's lack of properly organized content really annoys me. I could've saved a TON of money and gotten extra stuff too if this item was simply located in the Animals/aquatic category :http://www.daz3d.com/animals/aquatic category with the rest of the undersea animals.

I realize I can't return a coupon bought item but It honestly doesn't please me. I know these are oldies, but that makes it even a bit more surprising that they aren't in their proper categorizes. Come on now, lots of life left in some of these models. Why aren't they where people can find them to buy? Daz wants people's money right?

    /End rant

There are two fish bundles not in their proper categories:

    http://www.daz3d.com/sea-life-pack-1
    http://www.daz3d.com/sea-life-pack-2

And yes, the indivdiual items from the pack like the turtle are missing from the aquatic animal category. And I love that little guy! He's in my cart right now....

Today's review is: Jurassic Seas 1
    http://www.daz3d.com/jurassic-seas-1
    Digital I Designs

Wow, and can I say wow again at these stunning models by Digital I Designs. I was blown away how seriously I liked these and how easy they were to use.

You get three prehistoric critters, Liopleurodon, Leedsichthys, the world’s largest fish, and finally Metriorhynchus. I think the world's largest fish is my favorite. He's just really seriously cool looking with his bony head and visible rib-like markings. But all three are wonderful! One even has slightly killer whale looking markings.

To render, I decided to use the backdrops from Under the Sea http://www.daz3d.com/under-the-sea

I am a fan of backdrops. They are quick, easy to use, and not memory intensive. This set has a few that are simply really useful, along with having some nice swimming poses and lights. Under the sea is just a great everyday item to have.

For lighting I used different once from either Under the Sea (link above) and lights from Underwater Ambiance. http://www.daz3d.com/underwater-ambiance-for-daz-studio

Both light sets will supply whatever light you need to light up under the sea., although I will mention that Under the Sea lights will render faster than Underwater Ambiance at default settings.

Each model comes with several poses. And because they are easy pose they are so fluid and easy to move around and very realistic and graceful.

I rendered 2 of the 3 critters here for you.

    1. Leedsichthys
    2. Metriorhynchus

I highly recommend the set. This is a great addition to any runtime.

Played with it that day, but with this sale looming, I had to stop and start going through my wishlist (450+ items) to see which vendors did what, which were in the promo, etc. Then I had to go through all the DAZ Originals to see what to do there. I'm still not done, have my monthly coupon and the additional % off D.O. to figure out- for two weeks! I did like it, but everyone else seems to have had a much faster learning spree that me. Some had modeled before. You will not crank stuff out like Bigh in 15 minutes, that's for sure! (Did you see that spaceship?)

You have my sympathy. It's no fun to find you could have done better if only you could have seen your options in a clear, straightforward kind of way.

I don't normally stomp my feet and pout in the forum but I'm annoyed today too. I bought something this morning (UK time), having checked there were no new coupons for this last day of the sale... only to find that by morning? (or afternoon?) US time there was a money-off coupon. If I'd held off I could have bought added something else to my order and had a nice discount too. :(

Oh and yes, getting totally confused with the coupons I do have that are going to expire and best spent while 40% discount still applies...
