Kit Bashing My Life Away
Since I tend to do a lot of kit bash renders, I thought maybe I would start a thread where people can post fun mashups and mix and match type artwork that they create. I personally think it's always fun seeing people use bits and bobs in all different ways. Below is an image I did more recent combining elements from a bunch of different packs.

Here is a portrait kitbash I did today. It is a mix different of character morphs, hair products, and clothing. It is not as elaborate as what Ann did, but here it is, to keep the thread alive and growing. I copied and pasted these product links from my Gallery. I hope that works.
Wow both of these are lovely!
Okay, technically, the guy isn't lovely.... but he looks great!
It is too as elaborate Getting a good, realistic portrait render is always difficult..especially trying to make it engaging Things I love about this...
Love the expression though dont want to be on his bad side..he seems very not happy LOL
I also love the care you took in getting the glow in the ears/translucency. Stuff like that are the things that make it look more real and I know things like that or say getting shine one the hair etc take thought and work sometimes to get the lighting just so to fully show/take advantage of those things.I really like the entire thing
And yeah copying Gallery links works I do these crazy elaborate lists of what I have used (OCD - but only on certain things LOL) so I just copied that for mine
He is too lovely...men can be lovely too...though now I am picturing some little girl somewhere trying to sit him down to a tea party while putting bows in that beard hehe
Here is another I did awhile ago. I will admit that "warrior" or actions images are not my strength. LOL
Items Used for this image:
I admit it took me a good fair while to find "songbird's stuff" when I did this image. I tend to really like the animals in my renders when I can sort a reason to have them there
I tend to always use a bit of this and that in most of my renders, it's so fun to do some kitbashing. Love the renders, they are both beautiful in their own different ways. Have a question to Ann though, that enviroment you used (Nights of Romance by ARTCollaborations) is that something that will be released? I searched for it, both in store and on google, but couldn't find it so I got curious :)
I try to make notes of which items I use in a render, because I've been so sad many times when finding a great render in the gallery and there's no items listed, and more often than, if I ask about what clothes/enviroment/hair etc that was used it is often getting ignored :( I admit though I do have a few renders which I didn't write down the items, and I'm still planning to try to open those scenes and write it down, but... it's not the most important thing on my mind when I go into studio *grins*
On Nights of Romance, Its not in the store yet. I wasn't sure how to list it. I have rendered it a ton as I worked on it so you may see other renders with it in here eventually...(Half our freebie promos show parts of the pack LOL) At the moment I am refining some parts as Im being um nitpicky? with it or it would (and probably should) all ready be in the store LOL Its been an 8 month labor of love ROFL
On the gallery yeah some people list and some do not. I personally find it useful to list since sometimes people will look and go "That was just the thing I was looking for" for an idea I had. So I try to literally list every little thing no matter how small. That said, I have been known to forget "something" but I do try to grab everything even down to hair texture add on packs etc.
And yeah I love grabing this piece from this and that piece from that. I've even loaded full big scenes (for those vendors who sometimes don't save out "separate" for singular load) and then deleted everything but the one piece in that scene I wanted ROFL. Personally I feel like it gives you more bang for you buck to look at stuff and see it in all different scenarios and also I think it tends to get you thinking when you start seeing pieces outside their "meant use". I love using pieces "meant for xyz" in different ways. Lots of times I have 0 idea what I want to do. I literally go to Smart Content and hit to view all and just start going through the list and when something pops out at me yelling "play with meeee" I grab it and then go from there ROFL
Amazing thread with great images - will come later for more to see.
@Ann I look forward to see it when it comes, from what I saw of your render in here, it will be an amazing product :)
I've actually bought products because I can see myself use one or two items in it, even though the main part is not of interest *sheepish*
And here's one of mine with a bit of kitbashing :)
items are listed in the gallery, with the links. But here's the break up of them :) Ravi HD, CC Joliette, Youngblood Hair, Whitney Hair, Portals - Nouveau. MICK-Bedroom (flowers), Alt Style Outfit (jacket and bracelet), Bounty Huntsman Outfit (shoes, pants, shirt), Z First Class Male (his pose), Angels Secrets Lingerie and poses (her pose), dForce Universal Dress (on her), Limousine Prince + Iray add on.
The Bodyguard
Me too ROFL
Personally I've always loved watching how people use stuff. People are so creative in use and even function etc. Ive seen guns used as vehicles, Jewelry for Vicky etc to wear used on dressers etc as "scene accessories/props" etc. I always like seeing stuff used in those ways
Oh I really love the POV and DOF on that. I love the back of the car "just in view" Its a really nice angle and adds a lot to the "story" of the image. Makes me wonder where they are going I may have to check out that car..I dont have many vehicles oddly LOL
It's fun to find new uses for things, I remember a pair of panties being used as sails in a contest some years back :) Here's another one with some kitbashining, the same "story" as The Bodyguard one. Fun thing is I was working on this one, when I got the inspiration for the bodyguard, and finishing them I now have inspirations for a couple of more in this serie lol
Items: Ravi, Youngblood Hair, Bounty Huntsman outfit (shirt, pants, shoes), Alt style Outfit (bracelet), Coffee Shop (mug, the text I added in photoshop), Plantz (the hanging plants), Art Deco Hotel Lobby (chair, painting, table), Mediterranean Deck (wall), DG Iray 200 Iris Color (eyes). I think I used Subsurface Shader for Iray, on the plants but not sure.
The Bodyguard - End of a long day
At the end of day it was nice to relax on the patio behind the house, with his favorite mug filled with strong coffee and a few cigarettes.
Hehe the coffe cup made me smile That one is a nice portrait render as well I appreciate the extra pieces you put in like the cigarettes and ashtray etc. I always feel like those little touches add to the personality of the render. Sort of the way a persons house and what is in it and where does I do wonder if hes up to no good by that expression hehe
hahah I have a few ideas in mind *smirks* not sure how many of them I do, but I expect it will be a little serie of sorts. And thank you *happy smile*
Kitbashing is great, I#ve been doing lot of it, but I will have a hard time detailing what I did. I will try in the next days.
In the meantime, there are some really cool works here, thanks for showing!
I hear you..I swear trying to keep track is the hard part LOL
I love kitbashing as well, so this thread is going to be fun. Here's my latest. I really did it to test Ryker out... but ended up building it more and more, so it ended up being a bigger kitbashed piece than planned. It just so happens that he's now part of my "Men of Thrones" series, so it worked out.

Concept: I walked into a clean spacious room, well-lit and orderly, but lacking warmth. There I came upon a man lounging in a chair of that, though beautiful, seemed rigid and cold. The man looked somewhat amused, yet bored at the same time. He seemed blind or disinterested in my presence, like he was watching life from behind a glass that protected him at the cost of isolation. I stood there, before him, wondering if the cost of focusing only on technology was worth it. And as time stretched with neither of us speaking, I wondered... "Is this room a reflection of his owner?"
Art definition:
Technology has allowed for a lot of great things, but only if proper balance is kept. If you focus only on a screen for too long, you'll become isolated before you know it. Technology has also made being "mean" a form of entertainment. And as we lose the ability to empathize, we forget that there's someone at the end of every word we type and post.
Technology is powerful, we can build things with it... or destroy things and people as well. So we must always use it wisely.

Oh wow I love the throne and the icy colors! That is a very cool look and style. I also love the slight green light cast to this. in the lighting on his left. It add just the right amount of depth to break up some of the blues And wow that is a lot of products you got going there
@ gigi that throne is awesome! well done :D
I will start with a simple kitbash
a moss wall wich I will at some point use in my comic,
so for the base I used the soap tray without the soap from this product https://www.daz3d.com/forums/uploads/FileUpload/c9/c96975aa610959db49ae650524a210.png
I added a cube I flattened very much and used the geometry editor to remove one side competely. the larege backside I added my self made moss shader ( a closeup photo of some moss, taken one nice looking piece oiut and made it tileable with gimp, then turn to grey values and adjust for bump/displacement)
What remained from the frame of my cube I used a metallic shader, I don't remember which one, some chrome thing.
At last I added the water splashes the pouring curtain from the Liquid pack https://www.daz3d.com/liquid-pack and gave it an iray water shader. Adjust everything in size and parent/group to asfe for future use.
Floor and Backwall in this one are simple planes with a tile as shader and the seat is from https://www.daz3d.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=i13 spa and lounge environment
there is a dork sitting there for convenience ;)
Will be adding a few posts here soon. As Phoenix can attest to about all I ever do is Kitbash :D
Very cool and I really love the wall...its very cool I actually really like his posing as well. He seems very chill (and has my oldest son's posture going LOL)
Wow, lots of great stuff here! I have that throne... I had no idea it could look like that lol! I do kitbash, but I never have time to make note of where everything is from. But I love all the ideas here, I think it will encourage me to think outside the box a little more when I do a scene.
Looking forward to seeing them
Ill be adding some more images shortly. Been busy trying to finish off some PA work and with the PC Sale etc.
Here is another one I did...most images I post sadly will end up having our stuff in it as I get limited time to "play" so I tend to play with everything I buy when I go to do promos. Often I'll start with "Gee I wanted to play with XYZ how can I work an image around that" LOL I do that A LOT with PandyGirl's lovely dForce dresses. Like ok I have this dress..how can I use it today ROFL
Also please note I do often forget which poses I used so those may or may not be listed They are hard to sort out after the fact sadly and I try so many and then tend to tweak or change them so much that by the end I forget what it is I used.
