While it would be my first Raining Men entry, I've been using Daz Studio since Victoria 4 was released, so way more than 18 months I'm afraid. ;)
I've been working on my first entry. I've composed pieces and parts of it. My main character (a Highland Scot) is trying to feed his toddler daughter breakfast, but is being challenged by their small clowder of kittens who want the milk. :)
I actually like that definition and, as @Chohole says, she donated that prize. She gets to decide how we define what constitutes Quirky. That's the definition I'll be placing on the voting thread to guide people when they vote. I thought long and hard about whether to have this be one of the categories that wasn't up for public voting, but I think our forum members would be great judges of what's Quirky. I think with a specific definition in place, it will aid the voters' while they look at the entries in the end.
Anything to define 'Toon'?
Thank you, I have to admit that nonesuch had me more confused I had no idea that render could be considered Toon or Quirky. I also didn't realise it had a likeness to Tom Petty - I had to look him up.
For Toon images, we are looking for those images which have either a cartoon or comic book look to them. You can definitely use a mixture of mediums like having a toon type character in a realistic environment or more realistic images in a more comic book style render. The whole render doesn't need to be a toon, but it does need to be the dominant aspect of the image. I'd love to see some unique and interesting perspectives on the medium.
When planning a render, think cartoon, manga, comic book, etc. You can achieve these looks with textures and shaders available in the Daz store and I believe there are some free ones available on some free sights. Postwork is a great way of accomplishing the same looks. There are some great filters for doing this in Photoshop, Gimp, and FilterForge as well as other 2D graphic software and online sources.
There is some great inspiration in the NPR Thread if you still aren't sure. While NPR is a much broader category, there are lots of images in that thread which fall under the description above.
Uploading to the forums seems to be having some difficulty ATM. Would someone kindly delete my post in the entry thread that I could not attach an image to?
I'm not sure if the site is having issues or not. I can't delete posts. I'd just wait until morning and see if you can upload after the site has had a kick in the servers. These things usually work themselves out.
I'm new to Daz and haven't done any rendering for about 15 years. I'm amazed at how far it has progressed! Anyways I appreciate this challenge cuz I spent the first few weeks with DS just trying to figure out where everything was and this was just the inspiration I needed to actually put something together. Hopefully I will be able to figure out how to post it.
NOT AN ENTRY
I started this and realized I forgot to repurpose an item. Nor has the leprechaun outfit been draped. However, I am in the spirit. I intend to get the leprechaun in the challenge, just not this project. I was inspired by a recent showing of Darby OGill and the Little People.
@diomede_Carrara looking forward to seeing the little fella in the entry thread... awesome modelling in Carrara you have done there
Finally submitted my re-purposed render ... that's three in three categories... all done ( phew )
I finally got my fist entry into this contest yay!!!
So...it's just me having difficulties I guess. I have tried multiple versions of the file, multiple browers and even tried from work.
Apparently, ampersand in a file name is not a good thing. Problem solved.
I'm glad you figured out the problem. :)
I've been wanting to do a render of this Japanese Anime and Rock Music mash-up for quite awhile, this contest seemed perfect for it.
Sailor Freddie Mercury
First ever daz entry...
OK...I really suck at posting stuff in the entry thread so I definitely need to build some skills there....my second entry! Yay!!! This was actually a much bigger pain than I anticipated. Today I learned that there is such a thing as too much light since the original 'daytime' render of this went for 24 hours with a bunch of noise to show for it. Ended up doing it in 3 separate render and combining them in photoshop. I seriously need an beefy dedicated render machine.
I've submitted my first entry in the entry thread as well. Link to "Conall's Folly" instead of double posting it here:

second entry: Farmhand
@sb1978 Can you go into your post and set the width of your image to 800 px? It would be much apreciated. It's showing up really large in the thread up above.
sorry, I have it resized. If it is still too big, just let me know
Yay, finally got my first entry into the contest :)
Teasers
It looks good, thanks!
And a second entry now too, didn't thought it would be finished yet but the scene went faster than I expected :)
Desperado
Do we have to post our entries in both threads, and if so whats the point of the anonymous voting as all the entries are also in this thread next to the creator's name?
All entries are next to the creator's names in the entry thread too, not to mention in the daz gallery and/or dA gallery. But no, we don't Have to post them here. I tend to do it by habit honestly.
Mates
Ravi, Michael, and Darius 8 - wanted to work with some of the Gen 8 models. In finishing it, I see it has a slight male 'Charlie's Angel' theme which came out which I wasn't planning on at first but fun.
Does hair specifically sold for female figures count as a re-purposed item?
I seem to remember last year the administrator of the contest (I forgot if it's KnittingMommy i think she is) said hair doesn't count as repurposed and neither do pose sets, or skin texture sets. They want clothing and/or accessories mostly I think.
I expect she'll come along though and clarify the rules, especially if I remember wrong.
From the first post in the thread
