nonesuch00, and Chohole, thank you.
See, I have always been confused about that one. Last time I did two entries using women's clothing on male in a way that didn't look absurd. Or rather, that looked like it was made for the male figure. However, when it was time to vote, my entries weren't added to the repurpose category. So perhaps more explanations should be added to avoid confusion. I figured that time that they meant to repurpose an item that wasn't clothing in a new way. Like using a scarf as a loincloth or something like that. But I was never sure.
If my thoughts hold true, then I'd assume that a number of entries right now that used "re-purposed" female clothing on male will not end up being part of the category.
For context, this was one of the two entries "Adonis" repurposing the Shashala Sorcerine Outfit. The other one was Ambition, repurposing Arkana.
The Repurposed Category:
10. Re-Puposed Category - This category is to take an article of clothing NOT designed for the males and using it on or with the male figure in a new way. This does not mean throwing the male into a dress and calling it done. For inspiration, please check out voting threads from previous years in the links and look for those images which are tagged Re-Purposed.
The idea behind the repurposed category is to use an article of female clothing in a way it wasn't meant to be used. This can be used on the male figure, but not necessarily. For example, the winner of last year's contest was @3dcheapskate who repurposed nipple cups and a bra from two different V4 outfits into a hat and a levitating disk. It was clever and unusal and very well done. It embodied the whole idea behind the Re-purposed category and that is why it won.
When thinking about the re-purposed category, think unusual and something that hasn't been done before.
I'm not perfect and I'm sure mistakes happen. One thing contestants can do to help is to clearly mark their entries as Re-Purposed, Newbie, Toon, etc. when they upload their entries. If possible, use a bold font and make it bigger or at put it in parenthesis next to the title. Believe me this helps when dealing with a lot of images. Last year, we had over 100 entries. It took me over a week to get them all set up for the entry thread. Anything contestants can do to help is much appreciated.
Yeah, i think what threw me off last year was the example link you added. I thought the loincloth (which admittedly there aren't many like that for males) had been the item repurposed. So I understood it as female clothing could be used so long as it looked like it was made for the male figure. After all was said and done and I went back to the example to understand why my entries didn't make them to the category (because I did mention in the entry thread they were repurposed and how the repurposed object was used), I realized that the example really was about the panties being used as a sail.
So just adding a note of what was repurposed on the example would have helped. Especially for people like me, who had been the first time we joined. This is meant as constructive criticism, not a complaint. I am sure dealing with these competitions is a monumental task and very time consuming. So you are welcome to ignore this message as well. Apologies in advance if this text becomes a huge wall of text. I am writing from my cellphone and spaces seem to disappear as soon as i hit submit.
I've put my second entry up, although I may still tweak it before we get to the deadline and submissions are closed.
The Raising of the Fallen
[ Technically, the armor the fallen warrior is wearing is Alruna which was designed for the female form of Genesis, but since the figure is Michael 5, which is also Gensis based, I don't think it should qualify as a Repurposed Female Item for the contest. ]
Not having rendered anything at all for several months, my first entry is in the spirit of that it's more important to participate than to win. And it also means I got one more entry now than I had in last year's contest... Although I had to leave Ducky out, I was happy to see a rubber ducky making it into another entry. :)
I'm happy to see you getting back into the swing of things Lee looks good, by the way. Nice job.
It's a very nice entry. Even without Ducky.
Thank you very much L'Adair and Kismet!
My 3rd and final entry: Brownie Camp
Repurposed Items include:
The tent poles and the mushroom are original items I modeled in Hexagon.
NAE
but I was too happy with this to let it pass, This is good old Lee6 turned Iray, still the Lee I like the most ;)
Some great entries so far. I've got my three in just then.
He looks great. Nice job.
Excited to be participating for the first time!
1st entry: Narcissus

Apologies... honest mistake.
third entry hot fire
The High Priest Of Quetzalkebabshop (Repurposed)
V4 Feathers Mask (from V4 Feather Hair) repurposed as his ceremonial wings
V4 AK Lillian Bikini ornament repurposed as hischest piece
V4 Vandra Neckpiece repurposed as his loincloth
Not what I was planning, but making a bazooka out of items of female clothing (think The Man With The Golden Gun) turned out to be too much hard work.

Second post deleted - should have been on the ehtry thread
Here is my third entry:
I did a bit of postwork to it.
I just need to bitch about this render a little and how much trouble it was!
I am still not happy with the quality. I love the picture, but I'm still seeing fireflies all over, But Daz 4.10 ended up having fireflies and Daz 4.11 ended up crashing. And both had some weird artifacts when rendered with Ryan hair. So I had to do two renders and then blend them together. One with hair, one without.
I'm hoping I can do another one after christmas where I can let it run a whole night to get some decent quality. *grumble*
I have a question please. For our entries in the contest, what is the minimum image size for an entry? I was thinking to enter as HD (1280x720), 1280x1280, FHD (1920x1280), or 1920x1920 depending on how small our entries are allowed to be.
Title: Green Giant Gets A New Hat
Times are tough since developers started building condominiums in the valley.
The "hat" is actually Allesandro_AM's free Beaver Dam prop (actually more like a beaver den), but since I used the idea of a hat already in a quick one-off render in the thread where it was released, after someone suggested that it might have many uses, I don't know whether it should count here. Instead, I also re-purposed Cathy Hair by outoftouch to make GG's "grass" skirt., looping the ponytail over the "belt" (which is BionicRooster’s Easy Pose Rope - its a rope, so that part isn't really re-purposed).
I had to make a return for the 'Raining Men' contest. It's too fun to pass up. Music and music videos inspire me greatly so I made a render thinking of one of my favorite Christmas songs - Pretty Paper
I'm loving all the entries, everyone! There are some names I'm not familiar with so I'm very happy some newcomers to the challenge are participating. It looks like @DarwinsMishap has a challenger! Nice going @Vyusur!
Just a reminder that we're in the last week of the contest. If you haven't entered yet, get busy! If you have entered, make sure your images are in the final state you want to be judged on and make sure your images are tagged with any special categories you want to enter. It looks like everyone has been pretty good about that. Just double your tags in case you missed tagging something. Your image can be entered in more than one category even though any image can only win once.
The clock is now ticking down to the end of another great year, but we still have room for more contestants!
@Fussel2107, Edit the post with the entry you want to pull, and mark it NAE, or Not An Entry in bold red letters as I've done here, and save the comment. Then post your the new image at the end of the thread.
(To edit a comment, for any who are currently puzzled by the idea, hover over your post and a very small "gear" icon will appear. Click on the icon and you will see the word "Edit" popup. Click on Edit, and your comment will soon appear in an editing window in the same place as the original comment. Below the window will be a couple of buttons, "Save Comment" and "Cancel", as well as the link to "Attach a file." When you are done, just click on the Save Comment button.)
I would also like to remind all the first-time participants, if you want to be included in the Newbie category, be sure and mention Newbie in the posts, and include when you got started with Daz, per the rules posted on page 1:
I've seen some wonderful images that I think are Newbie renders, but they aren't labeled! Don't miss out on this opportunity!
So will a Toon render be entered only in the regular contest if one doesn't label it toon? If one does label it is toon does that exclude it from the main contest?
What L'Adair said. Just edit the post as an NAE so I can see it and then do a new post with the new image and you'll be good to go.
All entries are up for the big prize. That's decided first. If an entry wins one of those prizes, it isn't then entered in the secondary contests. You can't win more than once. However, any entries that didn't win one of the main categories are still eligible for competing in the secondary categories.
Basically, if you enter an image and mark it Toon, it will have a chance to win one of the main categories and the secondary categories. The main categories are awarded first and then we trickle down the list for the other categories. I hope that makes sense. So, if you have an image marked Toon and Newbie. That image has the chance to be entered in the main category, the toon category, and the newbie category. However, it can only win one of them. On the off chance an image were to win two categories, that image would get the better prize of the two, and be taken out of the category of the lesser prize so someone else has a chance to win.
So, if you have an image that fits more than one category, mark it with both. All images are automatically entered in the main category and don't need to be marked for it.
