Has any of you used the PTF Grungy Threads product? Somehow I am too stupid to get it to work properly :/ When trying to use the shader for dried blood on a pair of pants, I don't get the splatter shown in the thumbnail, I get a pair of pants that is solidly colored blood red.

I really thought, and still think, this product could be useful. But it only makes me feel stupid :( I tried finding something on the forum about it, and did find something in the technichal section. Tried to follow a tip there but didn't work at all on the blood shader, haven't even bothered to try with the ripping as I'm really feeling down now. Also wrote in that thread as well, but realised I may be getting some help here too, before I decide wether to return it or not.

You need at least two presets - one for the effect and one for the pattern.

It doesn't work for me, at all. when using it on the pants themselves the second preset overwrites the first, and when trying to use them on a actual shell they don't even take at all.

I found another shader that i had which worked for me for the blood splatter, tomorrow when I hopefully don't feel as down as now I might try it on other clothing. But as it feels right now I doubt I be keeping it, might change my mind tomorrow. Thanks for trying to help Richard, both here and in the other thread :)

Oh and the pants I've been trying to splatter blood on is the ones from ATLAS Armored suit for genesis 8 male, making another Keller render.

"Shuang also comes with Fibermesh Eyebrows with 6 different colour options for you to choose from. Just choose the remove eyebrows option and attach the included Fibermesh Eyebrows or you can apply the No Brow Option and apply your own fibermesh brows!"

If you own this will you see if you can find those brows?????

@carolao    I'm trying to test it but I can't get it to show partial results- I selected just the knee pad armor and am getting pretty much the entire thing covered in blood, I didn't mess with tiling or anything as it's just too complicated for my addled brain. Watching all the Hurricane Dorian stuff so not wanting to tackle anything else stressful. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't buy it as I'm not proficient with LIE. I changed the LIE setting to additive and followed the directions, and it's just not doing anything I want it to do. I did get it to work a bit with the shader settings. I'm just not thinking clearly enough to tackle this at 1am. Too frustrating for me at the moment.

I don't have her, but according to the ReadMe they should be here: /People/Genesis 8 Female/Characters/Shuang/Shuang 3 Fibermesh Eyebrows.duf

(And if you use Smart Content they are claimed to be under Anatomy - External)

They're usually showing up in the "Anatomical Elements"

@Richard Haseltine - thanks for the tip in the other thread to Right click and go to the virtual folder. That actually made things look far more understandable, I hadn't really thought of those as I never used them before only heard a mention here and there. In there I started to get the hang of it, and after testing it out on several different pants I am secure enough that I am indeed able to use it, so it will stay amongst my products.

@Novica it needs more than just using the shader for the blood, but I never figured out which one to use until I got to the virtual folder where the different presets and such were arranged in a far more understandable way than using it from smart content. Quite annoying as I tend to use only smart content normally... still, I find out how to be able to use it without feeling the same I did yesterday.

If you want, I can try to make a short "how to use for us addled brains" manual with screenshots, but I don't know if I'm any good at that lol

I'm sad to say forty minutes ago,  I just found Anubis, the affectionate tabby stray who decided to make my front porch a home most of the time, dead beside the porch. My neighbor Candy (remember who did the Cousin It with me on her front porch at 3am in the morning, sad because her dog got killed?)  had texted me last night about an injured kitten in the neighbor's garage who is on the other side of me. I told her I could supply vetwrap, gauze etc but couldn't take in a kitten as I was already helping 3 outdoor cats. I said to let me know how I could help, and heard nothing.  Well, I'm PISSED because I'm sure it was Anubis now- and they definitely didn't take her in to a vet. Had I known it was my stray cat, even though she isn't "mine" I would have taken her in.

We're taking her to the vet tomorrow to be cremated and her remains put in a beautiful wooden box with a gold plated nametag. She's one of the family and deserves a dignified burial. This past two weeks, I had brought her into the bedroom and put her in the bathroom when it was 107-112 degree heat index. She just sprawled out and made herself comfy for those couple of hours. She followed me around the side of the house when I took the trash out, and sat on the sidewalk watching when I watered my mirror-leaf tree. It's horrible going outside and not having a rustle beside the porch and her emerging from the plants. I sat up a box and metal end-table and covered it with plastic so she'd have a rain shelter, and I keep expecting her to come out of it, purring.

So I wanted to give Anubis a place in this thread, along with all the other pets I've had who have gone to Rainbow Bridge, to honor her. She died belonging to a family, and not as a stray.

How heart-breaking. I’m so sorry, Novica.  My thoughts are with you.

Sorry about Anubis. Glad I have only birds although the yellow Ringneck and the green Ringneck was ready to ring each other's necks this week. I gave the green one a new location after the yellow one decided she didn't want to share a large cage with the green one. Well the yellow one thought she was going to harass the green one in her new cage but shock for the yellow one, the green one was tired of it and not having it. She let that yellow one have a piece of her mind! It was funny (no birds were hurt).

So very sad! But I am sure Anubis knew you were her family.

So sorry to hear about this, Novica.

  • For the PTF Grungy Threads:

First you have to create a Geoshell for the item you wanto apply those dirty things. Then select the Geoshell in the scene tab, go to Surfaces tab and select all. Then apply the Geoshell pattern first. After that you can choose if you want bleach or blood or mud etc.

you can also apply one of the complete shaders like GT Fabric Dirty Graffity - the apply on the whole geoshell. For sure you can select single portions in the Surfaces tab for applying the shaders.

When you want to use one of those ripped things you have to firstly apply them to the item before you create the Geoshell. Otherwise you will end up in strange things.

This was only a quick testing and hope that helps

    And sad to hear @Novica

Who is in Dorian's path now? It seems Pensacola /Panhandle are safe, but my sister in Jacksonville...not so much now. So what thread folks are in Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas?

One of my brothers and his family are in the TB area and I have many cousins around St Augustine but it looks like Dorian will hit between West Palm Beach & Melbourne Beach.

  • genarisgenaris Posts: 321

Unfortunately it currently looks like Dorian will land well south of me but head north along the coast almost immediately, and if that projected path holds I expect to get a pretty serious beating.  I'm in the rural area south/slightly west of Palatka, between Palatka and Crescent City, just north and west of Daytona Beach by about 45m or so, and south/west of St Augustine by about 45m.  (Basically in the middle of rural nowhere, yet close to big-name tourist traps.)   Tree on the roof in the 2004 4-hurricanes-in-6-weeks storm season, and l o n g power outages (3 weeks average) in all but 1 or so of the storms that have come anywhere near the part of the state in the last 20+ years, but if this plays out per current projections I feel this might be the most direct and serious scenario yet.  None of the other storms actually went through the area so much as went through nearby (& sometimes very s l o w l y) enough for us to suffer strong effects like 75mph winds and too many days of monsoon (felling trees like crazy) etc.   But this... it might really be driving up the coast in my backyard.   I'd been preparing as appropriate anyway when it was looking like a drive-by that would land far south and go westerly before moving north that would be similar to drive-bys we've had here that'd be basically windy, rainy but okay but with a potentially short (2-3 day) power outage ---but today with the big shifts in projected path and model spaghetti data now driving Dorian right up along the coast instead of over toward Gainesville,  it seems less likely to be a "wave as it goes by" thing and more a "don't sit in the middle of the road as the truck hurtles through" sort of thing.  So...

@Barbult do I recall correctly that you are also in Florida and somewhere on the east coast?  Are you in the Cone?

Shuang HD (Gen8F)         Atlas Armored Suit (Gen8 M/F)       Calista Tail Hair (Gen 3/ 8F)

Although I didn't go back to fiddle with blood or dirt, I did want to show you the Armored Suit and Shuang. I forgot to post these with all the Dorian stuff going on. I've still got to go see if I can find the brows LOL. Edit- I found them under Shuang, I didn't see them before. Just going crazy. It's an "attachment" then the colors are listed in a different section.

Oh and for fun I used the dirt from PTF Grungy for the background (or else the blood, can't remember.)  Just changed the base color.

Possibly me. With the slowing of forward speed and consequent change in predicted path it could hug the coast and hit the North Carolina Outer Banks where I am. Also I know that both Miss Bad Wolf and Carrie are in central to eastern North Carolina and I think Petercat is in the coastal Soth Carolina or Georgia area.

Didn't had to use a geoshell for the blood shader in PTF, thugh if one want to use both ripped and blood/mud etc than a geoshell is needed for sure. It's different presets depending on wether you use it on a g eoshell or not, and in smart content all those were together and I genuinly didn't realise the difference at first. Not until I had gotten a look in the virtual folder and saw how it was laid up in there did I finally understand :) I tried ripping up the shirt of the injured soldier in my render, but I think I need to play more with the rips before using them in a render, I think I was using a preset that didn't fit well for it :)

I did get to use it on my render too, the same one I was struggling with. FUBAR Mission part 1  and put the Iray SurfaceWorx (grunge) on the uniforms, sidetable and the weapon. Should have put that on other parts too but I forgot lol.

Sad to hear about your little friend Novica *hugs*

It must be really frustrating for folk that live in hurricane regions to be ask to spend money leaving the area and loose money not working in hurricane after hurricane. I have also another bunch of cousins in the Miami Beach area and their father, my closest cousin, shared what the mess Hurricane Andrew left outside their windows in what? August '92?  Total mess with bark completely stripped from palm trees and lots of other things like that.

  • @Carola O,

I did write something wrong in my above post. When you want to use the ripped shaders you have to apply them last. sorry for confusion.

Well, i was working now about one and a half year with DAZ (and it is my first 3D experience). But i've realized very quick that the working with the Smart Content is very unhandy.

  • Carola OCarola O Posts: 3,823

I like smart content, but there is times it make me want to rip my hair out and give up on Daz lol I still prefer smart content before content library, cause i have an easier time finding things in smart content (me personally that is). I still think it has a lot of faults and could be MUCH better, and part of me whish/hope that Daz will fix those things.. though that hope does get smaller as time goes by I admit.

I once tried to arrange the content library as I wanted it to, but I gave very fast. It's not something I have the patience to do I'm aifraid :)

I use them together. I look for the product I want to use in Smart Content. If I don't like how it's laid out, though, I right-click on one of the icons and select Show Asset In > Content Library > Mapped Folder. Now I can see how the PA organized their content, and it's usually much easier to find things. A perfect example of the better organization is with any of Jepe's Art Deco Statuette products.

And if I can't find what I'm looking for in Smart Content, I search the Content Library. Results will include products in Smart Content, but also those in Poser formats or older Daz formats that haven't had Meta Data added. (Took me a very long time to realize a lot of older content wasn't in Smart Content. It's better now, as Daz has been adding Meta Data to older products, but four-five years ago, I had no clue why products I'd purchased didn't show in Smart Content.)

Has anyone successfully converted the Genesis Musician Poses to G8? They are on sale, but with the rate things are going at work, I won't have time to try them out until Thanksgiving   Thanks for your help!

A couple of items from the "85% off with debut item" I'd like to draw attention to:

Genesis Supersuit: this converts forward moderately well (I've had some trouble using smoothing to make pokethrough go away on the shoulders on G3) and has a ton of surfaces; it can be useful as an undergarment for more risque outfits, for instance. The actual textures do not translate that well to Iray because they rely so heavily on displacement.

Karen 7: She has a better than average base skin by Genesis 3 standards, but the real selling point is her morph, which really gives the idea of an attractive, unironically nice woman-next-door type. I use her a lot for female Catholic saints; check her out if you have a similar need for female characters who can seem strong in a low-key way and good-looking without being either a googly-eyed child-woman or the next Betty Page. With the RSSY G3-to-G8 morph converter, or with the couple of other scripts and tutorials that do the same thing, she's even useful if you're on G8.
