@melanieL   Yep, I only use Content Library. Smart Content was smarter than I was when it first came out LOL.
I am loading a character right now and the studio is bogged down, but I need to go to DIM and see if I even have poser selected for it to work with the files. The Content Package Assist did it's job, at least I know by checking Explorer files that part is good. I did this in the wee hours of this morning so I can't remember if I went into Poser Formats or not. (Too much multi-tasking at two in the morning.) I thought I did, but thanks for the nudge/ reminder.

Edit- just checked and DIM did not have Poser selected, so assume that may be part of the problem. Will reinstall and start from scratch just to be on safe side.

Okay, redid it but still found a small "sidetrack."  If you buy AppleJack in Poser Formats, the main set will be under FIGURES, there is no Characters option. (So Figures made sense to check it.)  The files loaded correctly.  I don't know why I didn't have Poser selected for downloads, and that may not have been the problem anyway. But to be on the safe side, check your DIM settings :)

And while you're at it, friends, make sure Connect Installed and Connect Available are also enabled. That one tripped me up big time! Especially for updates on products I'd already installed via DIM.

If you're wondering where those settings are, you can go straight to them by clicking on the Download Filters button on the Ready to Download tab. Then just scroll down the long list and make sure options you need are enabled. (And if you find products for programs you don't own in the download list, like Carrara, Bryce and Vue, you can deselect those and stop seeing products you know you won't download.)

Dumb question: Should I have all the versions of Daz Studio selected under download filters? What about Poser versions if I'm not actually using Poser? Are there any Daz products that only show up as Poser versions?

No just 4.5+   (the latest version.)  And for Poser, I did the less and more than version 9 just to be on the safe side as I don't know how Poser operates. I do know about Daz Studio, so if you are version 4.5 or up, just do the +.

Okay, that's what I had. Was looking over the options and got to wondering... Thanks! :)

Oh heavens, I just did the ink blot test. In this torn product, look at the second row of thumbnails, first one. (The black shirt.)  The holes make a face. There's two eyes (looking up), an upside down chevron for the nose, and below that, a huge grinning mouth complete with teeth!

    The Punisher?  Like this?

@nemesis10  LOL, exactly!!!!!!   Was it done on purpose? (Seriously, was it?)

My guess would be yes, but you can always ask Smay in the commercial thread for the product

Yeah, I assumed this was a Punisher homage, or at least an attempt to do something in that style. It would be quite a coincidence if it were accidental.

  • nonesuch00nonesuch00 Posts: 18,131

It was done on purpose. I can remember being giving ink blot tests in Kindergarten & 1st Grade so they've been 'hip' for a very long time now.

Nowadays, there is even a famous DC Comics character that wears a mask that changes into different inkblots according to his mood (I suppose), the Watchers or Watchmen or something like that. There was a movie out about 10 years ago.

For once, I fell asleep before the new products appeared on the Daz Store.  I forgot I haven't looked at the store yet, and then I saw your link to the torn clothing - wow, looks awesome.  I agree it looks like the tears on the punisher face are intentional.  Grabbing asap.

I haven't rendered much in the last couple months.  I did render DM's excellent new figure, Nikolai.  Here he is with no expression, but I have attached two additional pic with expressions.  I like to test expressions because very often even if he character looks great, they don't take expressions well (or I'm not great at dialing them in).  This is the base figure so Dain is not dialed in.

    I give the figure a 10/10 :)

@worlds_edge  I like the assymetry in the mouth on the second one, I think you do just fine with expressions!  I usually do a slight pull back on one side of the mouth to give an uneven, more realistic look to the mouth poses. I like your lighting too. Nice cool tone.

Sofiya   G8F (elsewhere)      Tia Hair (G3F / G8F)        Crochet Dress Outfit  (G8F)   and textures

Well, the dress is really short,  I didn't see a way to make it longer. IMO the textures are a must have for this dress, they really change it up. Really like the crochet look. The handbag comes with hand poses.  Moderators- the dress does NOT have a link to the textures on the product page.

The background is accomplished with a set from elsewhere and a plane put over it then the Opacity Cutout lowered in Surfaces. That grays out the background set and puts it at a distance. This background set is actually 3d objects and includes a floor. PM for more info.  There's quite a variety included, good price.

Showing you the before and after color adjustment to switch to a warm overtone.
To achieve warm, if you have a red-----blue slider you go red.
Then with that, on the purple-----green slider you go green. So red and green go warmer.  (So for cool colors like bluer/ gray / purple, it's a blue and purple combination.)

Showing you a third one with Dodge/Burn.

This one has been warmed up.

    Original, cool tones.

    Warmed up.

Warmed up and midtones burned in.   I'm just playing with it,  I think I like somewhere in-between the two. Click back and forth with previous render.

Heard from someone from Daz, not sure of their position? But cpage posted about the forums, not just the view count. Have a read.   Apparently we got heard, how nice to know they either do read the threads or the mods passed my / others viewpoints along. Thank you Daz!

    Here's some statistics:

This shows the views on the previous 11 threads when I STARTED THREAD 12, compared to views from about a month ago. Example 85,623 is views on Thread One when I launched the 12th one, compared to the views Thread One currently has. 86,612.  These are all CLOSED THREADS. This can only be views, no posts. Accurate or not, (some views aren't registering apparently) it does show the threads are getting visited.

    85,623 / 86,612   +989 views only on thread one, from a 2012 thread.
    69,802 / 70,750
    80,909 / 81,944
    60,828 / 61,701
    54,216 / 55,106
    81,998 / 85,478
    62,880 / 67,081
    56,300 / 61,396
    60,546 / 65,018
    56,904 / 61,143
    52, 652 / 56,815

722,658  / 753,044    30,386 NEW VIEWS. Can not include any posting.
FYI, with the current thread 12 with 40,578  it's 793,622 posts/views with the understanding some are double / triple counts with edits. But again, some views aren't registering either so that may be balanced out.  11 / 12 threads are closed and contributing 30,386 views (or more, if not counting.)  Headed toward 800,000!

    @Novica,

Once I found your threads, I started reading about my fifth month trying to figure out DAZ Studio in 2016. I often had five to ten pages open at any given time on different devices, studying the information provided. You and all the folks who have been on this thread over the years, sharing their knowledge with everyone, documenting reviews, and showing the possibilities that can be achieved, are simply wonderful. Each of the numbers may be counted by a bean counter as erroneous, but they represent a person, trying to study, search, track, reference, and learn with those who have come before.

Thank you for continuing your efforts for everyone on the forums and in DAZ.

@memcneil70   Most welcome :)  The contributors to this thread make it what it is.

Just wanted to remind everyone to use their PC+ coupons today, it's the last day of the month. You can use them with the flash sale and take another $6 off :)

  • genarisgenaris Posts: 321

Flash sales can be nice :) but I have to say, sometimes, done wrong, at least to get me happily buying. Right now there are 3 different flash promos in the main page header, with different groups of PAs in each Flash sale -- BUT the DEALS are identical: 1 @ 50 off, 2@60, and 3+ goes to 65% off.   What I hate:  You'd think you could get 1 from this group of PAs, 1 from another group, etc, and end up with 3 or more, and so get 65% off.  BUT NO.  I found 2 items I wanted in one group, (cart went as expected to 60%) and then in the next group of PAs, found another product I wanted, but the first 2 stayed at 60% and the 3rd item only went to 50%.     I repeat: the deal in EACH of the sale headers is identical: 1@50; 2@60, 3+ @65, so why wouldn't 3 of these items, regardless of which vendor pile they were in, count as ... 3 items :) and go to 65% ?!

So, since they aren't "playing together" I guess I'll sit it out, since the items I want are in different vendor piles....  After all, nowadays, 50% seems like the base price, and 60 is the new 40, aka, the first stage of discounting :)  and nothing to get excited about missing.    Tomorrows another day with another set of sales anyway....

That wouldn't be a problem at all if the sales actually ended after four hours like they were supposed to, so you only had one sale to choose from at a time.

totally agree. I'm saving at least SOME of my money for March Madness anyway.  Coming up soon! Can't believe we're at the end of January. It was only yesterday it seems that 2020 rolled in, now we're a month gone by!

I keep buying stuff I absolutely don't need because they're 80% off and ignoring things I actually want because they are only 60% off... indecision

March Madness, OMG!! I totally have to remember to buy another gift card just for MM the next time there's a really strong deal on them!

The last few March Madnesses were rather underwhelming, just new items at 50% off and tons of PA catalog items at 60% if I remember correctly. The sale was kind of boring and predictable unlike the random great sales and flash sales they have normally.

Right now if you have the Save with Dain 8 and the flash sale they are stacking right now for the gift cards!

They really need to inject some madness into that sale, or rename it, don't they? I doubt it inspires too much anticipation in new users to see it called March Mehness in the sales thread…!

33% off.  And the Save With Dain 8, one of the offers states you must have bought Dain before Jan 30th, so it rewards early buyers. I'm not sure if the other offers on that page require that. Did anyone who bought Dain on Jan 30th get the banner later?

If not, they're really rewarding us early buyers. :)  Marketing genius for the next Pro Bundle release (and then they probably won't offer anything for early buyers LOL)

Actually, if you get 20% off for buying both Dain 8 Pro and the fantasy bundle plus the flash sale you can get an amazing 46% off a $300+ gift card by also purchasing one of the 'Wizard" new releases. Now I have to save it for MM
