Quick WIP render of a robot thingy I'm working on. Still needs a bit of detail and only the main shell has been textured so far, the rest is just place-holders.

thanks Dart :) Yes it is a long time. My brain is almost full. :) Actually I have gone full circle. I was invited to show some of my dog renders in a gallery here in a few weeks.

They are expecting digital work, but I've been doing gouache illustrations (and charcoal, pen and ink) of the digital work.

They are in for a surprise!

Especially since I havent used gouache or watercolour for about twenty years..... ..... ;)

Fun, right? I haven't chiseled alabaster in what feels like a million years, now I have several fine chunks to mess with! Now I just need... yeah... time :/

most of us waste that period between 4.30 am and 6.30 am by sleeping :)

must be great to be a sculptor. when I did a lot of mesh modelling oin the old days I used to think how much  that would help sculpting in the real world

a few years ago I had an email from an artist (asian?) who had scored an artist in residence 'gig' in Germany . Must have been a good residency as he seemed to have lenty of money.

He'd seen some of my monkey renders and wanted me to do some cross sections so he could build some monkey sculptures.

I did a few and sent them on. He wanted to meet up and talk about it... then he found out I lived in Oz (not Europe( and the whole lot fell through.... :( sorry for going OT Bligh.

You better go back and put a render in there! Same here!

Speaking of making HDRIs, this render was done with just the characters loaded into one of my new HDRI tests. The various levels make really cool changes to the lighting!

The three below are just empty scenes using HDRI that I made - each rendered with different levels of the HDRI setting

Dart that top image looks very storybook. Have to try HDR myself.

Unlike the three below it, that one is an untouched render. I saw the result and wanted to post the raw render.

And it renders in mere seconds!

Here's a quick one I did this morning.  The texture is kind of messed up because I did it so quickly and couldn't be bothered do actually unwrap it correctly; this was just playing around. The crowd is a spots texture multiplied by a color gradient, and with the DOF added I think it came out looking pretty good.  Modeled and rendered in Carrara 8.5.

This one I spent a little more time on for the "Space Wars" challenge over at Renderosity's Carrara forum.  The droid is a bit sharp but I am really happy with how those walls came out.  All modeled and rendered in Carrara 8.5.  Postwork in Photoshop to try and make it look like a magazine ad.
