I noticed those, too. I figured they were on purpose, road damage...as well as what looks like what might be bird poop. :)
They are semi-purposeful. :) I was using the IRay shaders that came with the beta Daz download on the car, but in early renders it had these insanely large flecks all over it -- it seems to be a purposeful thing on the shader builder's part, but whether it the model or just personal taste, it looked horrid to me. I spent an hour or so diddling with the settings until I got the current level, which I decided to leave -- partly because, as Dana said, they looked like road damage, and partly because I was pretty bloody sick of spot renders. :P
The lighting rig is simply a couple of Distant Lights plus the IRay's environmental lighting options. I did render it under several lighting rigs, however, with no change, so I think this one's the shader settings. Oh the joy of learning new beta software....
(I kid though -- the freebie challenge is always my excuse to play with stuff I may not usually get to use. I doubt I'll do much with IRay on a day-to-day basis but I had a lot of fun playing. :) )
Good luck to everyone, and thanks to the judges and organizers -- the contest was, as always, a blast.
Nice! What an imaginative use of RR track and a bridge! Very creative! You might want to zoom in a little bit more so we can see the expression on his face better next time.
Welcome to the Freebie Challenge!
Dana
I couldn't figure out a way to show enough of the car and "roller coaster" AND zoom in to show his expression. I originally wanted to do a straight on view, but I couldn't find a roller coaster to use, and building what I did show took a lot of time to line things up so that I was happy with it. Maybe I could have made his head bigger (since it is a dream/nightmare.)

That would have made it quite funny! Or should I say funnier?
Good luck!
Dana
I don't have a car and it's breaking my heart,
But I've got a driver and that's a start.
The results are in! Judging this Challenge was a challenge - of the fifteen entries, ten received at least one vote by at least one judge, and I had to resort to a tie-breaker condition to decide between first and second place. (Those who remember the special rule I used the last time I hosted a Challenge should have a good idea what the tie-breaker was.)
I will need email addresses from everyone listed here, so that you can receive your prizes. Please PM both me and music2u4u if you are listed as taking Third, Second, or First Place, and PM me if you're listed as taking an Honourable Mention.
EDIT: The email address needs to be the same one you use on your account here, so you can get the store credit.
Honourable Mentions:
"The Lesson" by SixDs
"Louie's Truck" by Lord Ganthor
Third Place:
"Takin’ the Babe for a Ride in My Hot Rod" by fionathegood
Second Place:
"Come and Get It" by jerriecan
First Place:
"COURSE SHE’S DRIVIN’, OFFICER, SHE’S THE ONLY ONE WHO AIN’T DRUNK!" by Dorseyland
Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to everyone who took part.
As soon as I saw Dorseylands post, I showed it to my sister and said "I ain't got no hope, this is the winner, chicken dinner". Such an awesome concept and render of it. CONGRATS! Congrats to everyone, though. Really fun contest, peeps.
Congratulations to the winners. Special kudos go to Rob for such a fun theme. Having a contest that is hard to judge is a testament to all the participants. Well done everyone.
Quite a month -- I had a stroke and won the challenge! This makes me feel much better. Thank you!
Congratulations to all the winners and honorable mentions!!!
Dana
Seriously?
Congratulations to all the contestants. It wouldn't have been a contest without you!
I am hoping this is an April Fool joke. :gulp:
Dana
Unfortunately no joke, Woke up disabled on the 19th, but after a week in hospital I'm confident of a full recovery. Just have to stop doing all the fun things in life.
I'll be happy to rediscover the fun in 3D art!
Glad to hear you expect a full recovery. Take care of yourself.
Sorry to hear of your health troubles. Glad you're on the mend. :) Congratulations on the win! Love the pic - I could never do humor. Great expressions.
Congratulations to all of the winners!
So sorry to hear about the condition your condition is in Dorsey. Really glad you are recovering. Such a promise of more from you. Oh my!
Congratulations everyone on your successes.

Couldn't have said that any better, so I will just say "what she said" You take care now Dorsey
Sorry to hear that! I hope you do have a full recovery!
Dana
Sorry to hear, but I know what it's like.
Several heart attacks, failed quad bypass and down to 60% heart capacity left me in the same spot... no hopes on a full recovery.
I hope you'll fare better.

Aye I too sympathise as Himself has a different, but still debilitating, problem (Atrial Fibrillation) which was exacerbated by his inept GP treating him for a completely different problem than the one he actually had, despite the advice of the hospital after his first emergency trip there.. Himself has had 3 further unscheduled visits to the hospital and a couple of years of scheduled trips for treatment. GP was investigated and eventually struck of as not being fully qualified to practise in the UK and himself is now deemed to be as stable as possible, living on a cocktail of medications and having had to curtail a lot of the things he enjoyed doing.

Likewise - "what they said".
And I'll be in touch shortly about the Poserworld prize.

Atrial Fibrillation is not a good thing, as I discovered second-hand last month. (That's the root cause of the family emergency, which has concluded happily today.)
Chohole, does NHS allow one to sue for malpractice? It sounds like you have a case...
Tnx cho. :)
The trouble with the NHS is that by distancing themselves from the GP in question, they also distance themselves from any liability. Your only alternative is to sue the GP.
I hear you about the meds, I have to take 8 pills daily. :(
I've sent the HM GCs to SixDs and Lord Ganthor, made sure music2u4u has the email addresses of the First-, Second-, and Third-Place winners, and connected Dorseyland and Sparkworld for the top prize. That's all the paperwork taken care of... See you in the April Challenge!
Thanks Rob. How's things with you?
And yes we would be able to sue, but how do you sue an ethnic doctor who has disappeared from the UK, presumably to go back to his country of origin. He came to the UK via Germany, but is not German, possibly Indian or something similar. His German girlfriend threw him out of their shared home when she found out waht he had been doing, and then everyone lost touch with him. It is a small, 2 Doctor practice, and the other Doctor didn't know what the new guy was doing until this all blew up. Himself was not the only one affected, just the one who had the worst outcome from the malpractice. When he had the first of the major unscheduled trips to hospital the paramedic on the ambulance decided to ignore the normal procedure which is to take patients to the local hospital. She took him straight to a cardiac specialist unit under blues and twos, which could well have saved his life. Himself said it was a fun ride, although he wasn't really in any mood to appreciate it.
Thanks, everyone, for the very kind words of support. I have immense empathy for my co-sufferers and others dealing with life's tumults, but at least we have these monthly challenges to distract us from the daily ones.
I'm doing well, thanks - everyone's back home now.
And we need more paramedics like her...

Yes, and the guy in the fast response car as well. He was great. We actually had him respond 3 times of the 4 caallouts, and he got to be quite a friend. The second call out he asked to meet our dogs after the ambulance had gone, and said that he wished he could live where we did, despite it being an awkward place to find (that was when we were still living at Chohole Gate.)

That is well said, I am just happy that I didn't broke my arm today falling on it :(
Congratulations to the winners, lot of good entries this month.
Thanks for the HM! Sorry I've been so quiet, but my hard drive took a crash and burn last week and it took me a little while to get up and running again. Sometimes technology can be such a pain...Now I gotta go rebuild everything from scratch from the ground up...
Paul, Geeze, man! I'm really sorry to hear about your latest unpleasantness! Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.
