I like number three first and then number 1 :)
that's a pretty spot on pencil effect
Hi its an extra. Its about 29 bucks now I see.
Something worked up from renders for the latest Carrara challenge.
Here's something different. Same image, but I inverted one of the blue sketch layers and suddenly got this interesting brown/sepia look. I'm not sure if i like it enough to use it, but it is growing on me.
Oh, and on my wife's suggestion, I colored the tie blue.
Thoughts?
Thanks. I'll watch for it to go on sale.
Thanks, head wax, djigneo, Tobor, mmitchell_houston.
VectorStyle 2 for Carrara is here: https://www.daz3d.com/vectorstyle-2-for-carrara
Hi. Below is a monkey from Blender, rendered in VectorStyle2 for Carrara.
In zip are included .ai .eps and .svg files.
And the hammer rendered in VectorStyle 2. In zip are included .ai .eps and .svg files.
Clipboard rendered in VectorStyle 2. In zip are included .ai .eps and .svg files.

This has a very nice "children's book" feel to it,quite lovely.

Superhero comic style.
(Mainly PWToon, LR9K to fill in some extra lines, Lightroom to smooth the colors a bit, Photoshop to get the border)
Thanks very much for all of these! I can see they're not too hard to clean up. One additional question, though: I haven't used Carrara since it was owned by MetaCreations (last century), so I don't know any of its features. Does it have a means to add/respect High Res meshes like SubD?
How much was it on sale for last week? I remember seeing a post that it was some ridiculous amount, but I couldn't take advantage of it at the time.
I paid between $20-$24 for it last week. Lots of discounts stacking up on top of each other.
Very nice (and you are getting much better lines than I'm getting with these tools -- I need more practice), but I think this calls for some handwork to fix the big thigh on the bent leg and the hint of camel toe on the shorts.
Yeah, the problem with PWToon is that the lines are hugely variable. It's VERY hard to control and get consistent lines. On the flip side, LineRender9000 gets much more consistent lines... but almost too precise (but, then, good filters help).
As for the cameltoe, I honestly felt that was appropriate to the genre. ;)
I need to get back to working with LR9K. I have been distracted wirh other processes lately.
Camel toe: HAH!thanks it's not really my style - we are having a carrara challenge with no post work - so I did postwork (a lot of it)
Here's what I am working towards - another Carrara render :)
Wow - there are some very cool images in this thread. I've only looked at the first two pages and the last couple so far, but I plan to spend the next little while going through the rest.
Here's one I just made today for the current Carrara forum challenge. This is a straight Carrara render using the built-in toon filter. No post-work other than adding my signature:
I actually like the Sketchy version, number 2. I do like your wife's idea to color the tie blue. Good instincts. :)
I really need to look at Carrara again. I like the NPR images coming out of there. One of these days I'll find the time. :)
I need to make comments but gotta do a post and dash for now -- the hubby bought Rogue One, so we're watching that in a few minutes.
Re: toonish renders, I have PWToon but have always struggled to get something I like out of it. My more usual mode these days is to just go for a general illustrated-like look and run the finished render through Topaz Clean (Fluid Edges usually, sometimes another preset) and then use a preset from Filter Forge's Comic Stylize + weirdness filter (yes, that's what it's called.) I use a line-only preset, copy the result, and then paste it over the Topaz-ified image as a new layer set to 50% Multiply (if one likes darker lines, increase the setting.)
Below is Monique 7 after the Topaz Clean filter was added, then after the merging with the Filter Forge preset. The third one had a subtle distressed halftone texture added. (I do clean up the Filter Forge results a bit using the Mehdi Fine Threshold plugin. I sometimes do this with the airbrush, but usually I'm lazy and go for quick.)
More later...
Me, too!
He may have postworked the above image, but the nonpostworked version below done entirely in Carrara looks pretty good to me as well.
I like Comic Stylize + weirdness, thanks for the tip!
VectorStyle 2 for Carrara render of Gargoyle: https://www.daz3d.com/gargoyle
Painting and graphic novel style filters. The scene has Unused Railway architecture (converted to 3dl), plus shanty stuff plus grass (also converted to 3dl), bazaar spice display, rectifier and radioactive outfits, and so on.
And I had to go with 3DL because the Iray I started with hardcrashed my computer twice. ... ok, then!
