Thank you so much for the support , I really appreciate that
That's a great tip, Cath and thank you so much; I'll remember that :cheese:
It turns out I was lucky when I used the Jet Back shader on the Milen G2M hair :gulp: The other colors don't seem to take in Reality but as they preset shaders for Iray I guess that was to be expected :P Even so it's a great product and have no regrets ;-)
Apologies for my ignorance but frustration has arisen.
Again great product, but question.
Throughout this thread there is a suggestion that this product can be applied
to HeadHair items, is this a correct understanding on my part?
If not, does not take away from the item itself, but if it is, cannot seem to get it to work.
Also if so there is mention of transmapped hair
Can this be elaborated on and explained
Thank you!!!
No problem, there is nothing complicated about, just select the surfaces of the trans-mapped hair and apply the color first then the SSS and shine and that is all
It is for rendering in Iray not 3Delight or Reality
as for this effect you need environment like HDRI maps or Sky Sun dome or light setup with photo metric light
I showed example here http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/55729/P120/#827256

Thank you so much, should have swallowed my pride and asked earlier, would have saved much time.
I have a low opinion of iray, so this feature will not be used.
Thank you again, having a lot of fun with the product, will not be laying dormant
I grabbed this as soon as this hit the store! I've been holding off on my project because I was at the point where I was ready to create the male lead and I was wanting facial hair. This is fantastic!
I have to admit to being a little confused for the first half an hour trying it out though as I couldn't figure out where all the controls were. I'm used to applying an item and going into Materials to apply the look I want, it never occured to me to go look in the Parameters area for sliders. Once I did (and realized it applied to 'Real Short Hair for G2M' as well... oh wow the options!), I was blown away by all the different kinds of beards and mustaches!! I never knew there were so many... and all with names! It must have taken you quite a while to research all of that!! :bug:
Now... to figure out how to apply it to chest hair from the 'REAL Hairy' package! :cheese:
Thanks again for such an awesome product!
Thank you, glad you like it,yes it was quiet a work, I made before Unshaven 1 for Genesis 1 as well , I remember most of the beard and mustaches names but with the time the names changed so the one from Unshaven 2 are the actual names for the facial hair style like for example the zapper or sparrow ( from pirates ) I always do deep research before doing anything , learning more about that I need but that is just another adventure lol making it more personal
I see that everyone talk about the Parameters tab, the Styles should show up under SHAPE tab with a nice big cards as that is how it show in my DS and I installed the public version as well , it maybe be that your shape tab is hidden you can find it under WIndow/tabs
thanks again for the support
That is good choice the copstache make the full beard or any beard more mature looking , I mix a lot of them together slightly .. some beards like the African can be make longer by sliding up Wizard or Alchemist beard just a little bit .
I am working on the Unshaven scalp style and also eyebrows .. with the last one experiencing as it is the most difficult setup but I hope it is good enough for then public release
Thanks! These were my settings, chosen by just playing around until I liked what I saw.TIP
when you render in Reality, use the Reality silver metal shader then change the color you like in Reality it will give you better result
and the hair will be not flat , also for the trans-mapped hair with just strong normal or bump map .. and metallic shader
That's a great tip, Cath and thank you so much; I'll remember that :cheese:

Thank you so much for the tip, Cath :)
Am testing it now and it looks good; will post the results later (both here and in the Reality site) :-P
And here it is :cheese:
Thank you so much for the tip, Cath; it did the trick and applied it to Unshaven2, Flattop and the eyelashes :)
I also remembered what you said and used the color of the eyebrows as a basis for matching with some slight difference between the beard and hair :-P
You rawk <3</p>

Ah, man.... i can't seem to get downloads to work.... of course i bought this ASAP, but download isn't happening.... i keep trying to download, and it says 3 hours, goes down to 1 hour, goes back up to 3 hours wait.... then says "failed" so i have to try again. Happened 3 times already!! Must be popular since I can't download it! *cries in a corner*
Love all the renders here :/ wish i could join in!
First render with Unshaven for G2M. Really enjoying it so far and looking forward to using it.
Thanks, Cath, for all your hard work in bringing us this wonderful product.
Ah no.. I had the same thing with Stonemason product today it loaded forever and I have 100MB/s Internet speed , a lot of customers online downloading ..
I hope finally you got it ?
Thank You so much for the support and for sharing your render .. looking so cool !
Cath, I'm having a little bit of a problem when applying the hair shaders to other hair props. In the attached image I applied them to the PixiePerfect hair as instructed but its having a weird effect in some areas. You can see on her right temple that there are pink areas that look like the hair is clipping into the model, but its not. Whats happened, I think, is that that particular area of the hair is getting coloured differently to the rest for some reason; showing up as pink... not sure why. Perhaps its a very dark section of hair.
Any ideas on how to resolve this please?
This is my first serious Iray render, so feedback is very welcome ;)
Special thanks to Mec4D for this great product!
Another recent Unshaven2 image in Iray. you can see it full sized in the gallery (a few more likes are always appreciated ;-) )

"When all else fails, read the directions." Which is exactly what I should have done, but I was so excited to get Unshaven 2 I jumped in feet first. lol
After already applying the burgundy shader to my character's hair, and making changes to get a fuller hair result, I wandered back to this thread while the image was rendering... Wait. What SSS? lol
So I opened the folder for Unshaven in the Content Library and found both SSS and Shine. Cool.
Anyway, my character uses Asteria Hair by Mairy3Dream, (purchased elsewhere,) because I needed curls and lots of them. This hair object has five "layers" including the scalp and is working well with the shader. Working with a closeup camera with a slightly different angle than the scene camera, I thought the hair appeared a bit flat and added a second, unparented, copy of the hair to get fuller results. I ended up hiding the scalp and two layers of curls, then using morphs to change the shape of the top two layers of the copy. Finally, I moved the copy up sightly to add height to the finished image of hair.
One issue I found, even with this many levels of hair, is the tendency for transparency in areas that wouldn't be transparent in real hair. For this scene, I can fix that in Photoshop as the light is all coming from the sun to her upper left. This was less obvious when using the Shine shader.
Here are some comparison images.
The first compares the hair rendered in 3D3light, and Iray with and without the Unshaven shader (and before I added the second copy of the hair.) From left to right: Hair rendered in 3D, before Iray came out, using my own texture; Hair rendered in Iray, using the same texture I created for the character; Hair rendered in Iray using the Unshaven Iray Shader, with my texture removed.
The second compares the hair in Iray only, after adding the second copy of the hair object. From left to right: Unshaven shader only, Unshaven shader with SSS applied, and Unshaven shader with Shine applied. (Apparently, the sun alone was not bright enough to make a difference with SSS added.)
Based on this test, I'll definitely be using Shine for the final render.
What About Movement?
I haven't purchased this yet and I don't see movement morphs in the list.
Has anyone tried a long beard with a pose that would require movement, like head tilted down, or an extreme turn or other position of the head, chin in the hands, etc?
The most issues are the cutoff opacity maps , in Iray they need to be black and white and set on 100% , most hair you buy or are set to 80% or the opacity map is gray to make the hair transparent , then you add the shader and double effect .
as in your case someone tried to make the hair minder opaque by the roots resulting in semi transparent effect .
Also the SSS is for hair with a lot of layers in a bright light scenes with lighter colors
the shader will make the hair semi opaque and for that reason the cutoff opacity maps need to be done proper , some hair have it done correctly other don't so in some cases all you can do change the gamma of the maps so the hair become minder transparent
Ah, ok I see. Thank you for clearing that up for me. Much appreciated :)
That is a good example, and the opacity maps looks like proper too ..
the SSS will show when you have some light coming from the site or back also the darker colors are minder translucent as the light is absorbed , I think you can skip the SSS on that and go with the color and shine
for first serious one, looking good , like how the beard turns out !
Sorry, you cant pose something that does not exist so it is impossible to do a movement morph and if that was the case there would be so much data that take all your memory .
If I do a hair for one character where the beard is a base then yes .. but in this case there are no hair in the base and all styles you see are actually just virtual morphs
P.S
I may research and see if anything can be done as I just got some idea by doing sort of JMC .. but not promise
if I success I will upload it here for the most longer beards like Alchemist or Wizard
That was my conclusion, as well, for this scene. That's the main character of my book series, so once I've got the new cover done, I'll be doing some scenes for the blog. Plus new books will need new covers. :) And as both guys in the series have facial hair, (one with stubble, the other with a full beard,) I'm ecstatic with a G2M Unshaven, and especially with the Iray shaders. What a time saver. By far my most favorite 3D product yet, and I've got a lot of favorites! :)
Thank you for the exceptional work you put into this product.
-Anita
P.S. I'm still waiting for you to come out with a product for Iray skin. hint, hint... ;-) And I recall something about eyes, too. I'm saving my nickles so I can grab it (them?) when released...
Thank you so much Anita
regarding skin it is coming and Iray eyes morphs and shaders too
and more than everyone expecting , I finished G2F and now doing G2M
Always at Ya Services !
Thanks
Cath

Just wanted to see how it merged with the Oliver Hair. Works for me.
