@Angells always load characters in dev mode and export as base mesh. if you do those, it should work. Did that still geometry did not match.

did that for both still giving me geometries did not match.

make sure the geometry is isolated by exporting with "selected roots" or hiding other geometry. open the export with a 3d program and check if there are extra geometry.

also, g9 has to be imported to g9, g8 has to be imported to g8. you can't cross import if that's what your'e doing.

Still, no matter how I tried with Fitting or Transfer Utility (with or without morph targets), I had no way to bring the ORIGINAL HD morphs with details to G9. While Body Morph + Body HD and Head Morph + Head HD having the same 100% values on both G8M and G9, there's no HD details on G9. The only possible way is to set bigger values, 150% even 200%, I could see the 'details' but the morphs are totally different from what G8M has which means they're not the same HD... So I could only guess that the HD mesh data stored in dhdm files of G8 could not be transferred or completely transferred to G9 ...

probalby  bake them to displacement maps on your g8 and bring those over to g9 by UV conversions.

Yeah, that'll be a workaround... I used MSO Loong HD figure for testing, will give it a try. Still working on texture conversion~~

    I just did it

    took 10 mins

    dial in clone shape

base resolution convert to prop, G8m transfer utilty (did need to pose legs-6.35)

    dial up Dolb hide G8M

    export obj

    morphloader G9

    adjust rigging to figure shape

select morph edit mode ERC freeze

    save as support asset morph

Thanks Wendy that's a nice clear summation of the video.

I haven't watched it cheeky think it wasn't out yet when I posted, I use Sickleyield's tutorials, well did for earler generations sort of know the drill now

I haven't bothered very much with the previous versions. I have picked up characters that have appealed. I think you actual convert to a prop whereas the video exports and reimports. Converting to a prop is easier. I have noticed that the subd has to be on base as well as the resolution for me to get it to work. I've done four so far the toon princess is the only one with noticeable distortions so far. Plus what's the best way to get the eyeballs to fit as a separate object? Just scale them up?

Question for the knowledgeable: Why aren't the correctives automatically dialled in with Genesis 9?

Hi. Should say I didn't see any benifits in GEN 9. Strange things to use one mesh for both male/fem shape but ok. One useful thing it's simply mesh and it's maps but... Now there is not so much content for Gen 8/8.1 till this moment but they do new rebulded GEN 9. How much time all content will be rebuild it's question. I think... long time. Better way it was left as it is and improve shapes/morphs/materials for 8.1 but It my thoughts.

Benefit of one character, clothing will generally work for both male and female. You shouldn't need to buy it twice. Poses will work reasonably well on both sexes but will need minor adjustments. Hair will fit both...again you want need to purchase twice or additional fits. So for the customer there are many benefits.

You might have a character that is meant for one gender and you wish to use it on the other. It's easy to do so as the one figure has all the morphs.

That's just a few of the things I can think of.

Content at the start of any new character tends to be a bit sparse and give it 12 months and you'll have more content than you can imagine. Add in that you have clones from the original genesis right up to genesis 8 means you can use a lot of your older clothing.

There is also a method already being played with that allows you to transfer morphs from the older characters to genesis 9. See below Salem on Genesis 9 iirc it was from Genesis 8

People are already exploring using blender to transfer the textures.

There's lots there if you're willing to explore the processes within Daz studio.

you can do this without buying the wrap tool because a clone shape already exists for all the DAZ genesis generations

no other software other than DAZ studio needed

that tool is for getting shapes from other third party figures such as game content

or scans like the 3DSK content as shown

you can however use Blender to transfer baked textures between the clone export and other Genesis figures

How i use that? have a video tutorial?

Hopefully I am not getting myself into trouble :/

It's LUDICROUS not to!!! Geez guys! ESPECIALLY when there's SO MUCH 8/8.1 stuff out there and bound to be more! If anything you'd get more people buy 9 shapes and stuff to combine with our 8/8.1 collections!

I'm writing a script to transfer G8 morphs directly to G9, it's still in the early stages of development and still needs more testing.

The resulting G9 figure(below) has some glitches(chest/shoulders) due to high vertex density interpolation, but the results are promising.

this may be the most straightforward method to transfer shapes (from jcade) that transfers all morphs at once in just 5 steps. but it comes with the limitations of the transfer tool as mentioned (no jcms, jagged eyelids, wrong teeth/eye placement, etc). if @jag11 or a PA can fix these issues that'd be awesome.

    1. load g8/g9 dev mode

    2. dial in hidden morph "Genesis 8 (fe)male" on g9

    3. move in g8's thighs 6 -6 to match g9

    4. transfer tool with these options

or instead of "all", choose your favorites

    5. adjust rigging to shape and ERC freeze for each morph

So, this might be a really simple stupid question but above there is the direction of: "1. dial in hidden morph "Genesis 8 fe(male)" on g9"

So, where pray tell do you find that Morph? I've selected unhide on just about every Genisis 9 shaping catagoy it has, and there is no indication that this "Morph" now shows up anyplace.

  • ViallyVially Posts: 343

Next big simple stupid question -

where in the hiarchy that is the G9 thing, does it put said "morph", That is assuming that it actually did do anything when it flashed the transfering screen at me...

  • Great tips here, thank you all,

I tried the Wp Guru method from youtube, while it works fine for me, anyone noticed strange behaviour of eyelids, overlapping when they are closed. Is this normal?

first, click the Genesis 9, not any of its bones, in the scene hierarchy. next, show hidden properties (see image). then in the parameters tab, click "all", and type in "genesis 8". it will be a barely visible slider.

Yep, finally found that, had to figure out where the correct "unhide" was located, once found I was able to follow the steps... My next question is where does it put said Morph in the G9 Heiarchy, I don't find anything resembling the name of what I am trying to convert.

So did you transfer the morph yet? if you did, it should show up in the parameter tab (i just like to filter by "all"). It will start with FBM if it's a body and FHM if it's a head.

No success at all, I think the major difference is the tool, in the image I'm trying to follow, there is a section that does not light up or have options for me, and that is the extended options box. My only option is to select an item shape from under where I specify Genesis female 8.

My last attempt did do Something, looked like maybe it tried to fit GF8 onto G9... but the head was completely messed up, with eyes coming out of the top of ones head and whatnot... Might be longer and more drawn out, but I think I'll try the clone option, as was previously mentioned.

Yeah it's trying to do some sort of "fit to", as G9 in my latest attempt is partially attached to G8F, with G9's chin stuck to what might be G8F's tongue or nasal cavity :)

    Pretty strange looking creature...

Oh well, "fit to" appears to have the same issue. but I really just can't find the time to care, since the characters I can fudge and sort of remake them on G9... Funny part is the whole reason I might buy a character is for the textures, and since those cannot be transfered yet...

I rarely use a bought character out of the box, always changing something on the character, so the 'model shape' isn't that important to me. The textures though, not holding my breath, but am hoping that comes along sooner than later.

extended options shows up if you click on "morph targets" (not the checkbox but the text). Uncheck "fit to" at the bottom.

if those dont work, It will help a bit if you show me screenshots of where you're at, if you still wanna get this working.

    OMG!!!   surprise

Do they have a face palm emote on here... That was it, I didn't have the text for morphs highlighted... once the Extended options showed up, I went with all.... and it took about 10 minutes, but all them that morphs appear to be there.

    Purple = G*.1F,, Green = G9

Couple issues I see, is the toes and hands just went nuts, and Amira appears to have aged quite a bit in the transfer... But then again, the morphs were applied While the G8F morph was still active, so I get to play with it...

So now, I read somewhere about a save! Save, save, save... Where and how, am I exporting from G9, and reimporting as a morph. (using the characters not any Dev loads, do I get to do it over again?)

Read the HD details do not work, okay, so how do I go about getting rid of those morphs? No point in cluttering this up with things that cannot be used right?

And thanks a Heaps, now I have something to play with.

    V

P.S. the morphs come in with no limits, so Amira looks really weird due to being dialed in at 285%... no something that was intended. Her toes and fingers cleaned up very well at 100% :D

    glad it worked for you!

yes they removed the limits on transfer, so you will have to dial to 100% manually.

You can choose the morphs you want to transfer by favoriting them with the heart icon and choosing "favorites only" instead of "all" during the transfer.

After transfer you will also need to adjust rigging to shape, otherwise the joints wont bend correctly.

    • dial in your morph to 100%
    • Edit > Figure > Rigging > Adjust Rigging To Shape.... press ok.

    • after that you need to save that rigging with your morph using ERC freeze:

    • right click the parameters tab and choose “Edit Mode”

    • Right-click your morph and then select ERC Freeze...

    • press ok

    • do this for every single morph you transfer over.

Save the morphs as shown. fill in the details however you want and select your morphs. They will be under Actor/Full Body/People/Real World

Thanks for that, a couple more pieces to add to the puzzle :)

One last question, then I'll be busy for a very long time...

I have built quite a few characters on my own that I intend to make a story from, or maybe they are making themselves known so I can tell their story... Anyway, I saved these as Figure/Prop assets, and they now load into DAZ Studio without having to load G8.1.

Is there a way that I could transfer these characters to G9 as well?

This is Cassie, the main character, I've brought her forward from G2, and had to rebuild her twice... and every time I load her up, I see something else that needs 'tweeking', If I can get her onto G9 that would be great, I can play around with her some more, (still not 100% happy with her, or her me, or somesuch, but she's getting there.

    Again thanks in advance.

  • are your characters built from different morphs? if so, you will need to combine them into one morph before you can transfer it. as long as it's just one morph, you can transfer it using my steps.

you can combine morphs using Shape Splitter or by following these steps.

    1. set character to base resolution (from parameters tab, scroll down a little bit and find "resolution level", set that to "base")

    2. zero the pose on the character

    3. export (file->export) with default options (and check "filter objects" by "selected roots")

    4. load a new 8.1 figure.and select it

    5. import your exported file as a morph:

     edit->object->morph loader pro

click "choose morph files..."  select your obj file, press ok

    6. find and favorite that morph and transfer to g9

    Want to thank you David.

This has been a big help, but now I have my work cut out for me :)

Cassie just does not do well with the morph on G9. Explodes, looking sort of like a dForce item the catches on something. The exploding happens at about 30% on the slider. Tried twice, and not good either time.

So for Now Cassie stays G8.1. I may try again to do just head and/or body, not the full body, but to be honest, the G9 base shape is SO different from G8, that I think it has problems understanding what it is supposed to be changing.

Good News is it works fantastic on G8.1, so maybe I can figure out how to get her up on the market. Thoughts for another day.

Thank you again for the help.

Very helpful. Is there a way to transfer just a single morph, such as a chin morph or something, without getting the entire figure?

  • ViallyVially Posts: 343

I'm going with the "it should" concept - basically, when G9 is fit to G8.1, you should be able to dial up said morph towhatever it's maxe value is, on G8.1, and G9 would follow.

From there it would be a matter of saving the morph shape off from G9, and reloading it as a morph.

Quite a few steps, but as I said it "should" work.

Remember that all these characters from G8.1 are in fact just a bunch of Morphs and dial changes. So if it can be done for the full character, should be able to do it for a single Morph.

I'm atcually looking at the $40, full muscle morphs on G8.1 right now and thinking pretty much the same thing, Since I really do not want to have to spend another $40 just to get them on G9 if they can be transfered. These character 'upgrades' always take a huge chunk out of the ole pocketbook, just to get back to the basic functionality the previous character had.
