Thank you, nonesuch00!
Another gorgeous 'sculpt'. Looks a bit like her daughter as well. I really admire your work.
@alken - Thank you! Isabella Rossellini has a lot of her mother in her - mainly the soft roundness of her face. I'm glad that you've noticed the similarity. It means that I have indeed got something right.
Another finished head morph: this time it is Grace Kelly (Princess G9). Image also available in my gallery.
I love that render. Your hve given her that wistful twinkle in the eye she had I notice.
Loving all the sculpts and the lovely renders in the gallery AOBB!
@nonesuch00 - It's so sweet that this render struck a cord with you. I showed Grace Kelly with that wistful look on her face but as a person she was very fun loving with a great sense of humor. I remember the last time I've watched "Rear Window" with her I noticed that she was not only incredibly beautiful but also had a very pleasant, sweet, melodic voice. Thank you for your comments in my gallery! Brief but honest and supportive!
@SapphireBlue - First of all thank you for the "likes" and all your lovely and thoughtful comments in my gallery. They were very heartfelt and you are all-in-all a lovely person, LI. I feel blessed to know you.
I was still bugged by the Ava Gardner likeness (Contessa G9), so I gave her another sculpting pass. I believe I am really done working on her now. Here are the results:
Have fun!
AOBB
I'm not too familiar with her but she looks very close to my google search examples.
@nonesuch00 - Thank you. That is very reassuring.
They look absolutely amazing AOBB, you've done an excellent job. They will probably be the only time I use G9. My issue with G9 follows my issue with Genesis (original), it's just way too unbalanced female to male - as a book cover and interior artist I kind of need my male to female ratio a little more even. I did have high hopes but they kind of have been dashed. I do have just enough items that I can give your morphs the proper justice they deserve. I look forward to when they get released. :)
I won't comment on likability (I barely know current actors and actresses and I'm even less knowledgeable about the ones you're inspired by), but your renders and characters are beautiful
@K8sGraphics - thank you for your kind words about my work. When work is done with love it usually gives better results.
Yes, there are still more female models for G9 released than male and the male ones tend to be on the unattractive side. Also, the content for G9 is almost totally not up my alley. I think DAZ is alienating a lot of potential customers with their marketing strategy. I, for one, am pretty irritated by the type of content that is being promoted. I think it is a positive feedback loop situation - the type of content that is put out draws a certain type of clientele, which makes DAZ put out more of the same type of content which in turn draws in more of the same kind of demographic. The rest of us give up on DAZ or is trying to kitbash together what we need. I must say that it certainly developes inventivness but frankly I'd rather buy what I need straight from the store than struggle every time I want to make a render.
Returnng to my morphs - I realized I am not as happy with the quality of my male characters as with the female ones, so I might up ending releasing the bundle with some of the announced actors' morphs missing and add them later. I really want to keep a good quality control so I won't rush to meet a deadline. One way or another you will end up receiving the morphs as listed before in this thread.
Okay, back to work.
Cheers,
AOBB
I must admit I'm not bothered by the ratio of male to female with G9. In my.. no, I won't call it 'art', doesn't qualify.. 'images', I really only have male characters to be a foil against which the female shines. Either the male characters are loutish oafs having rings run around them by the females or besotted boyfriends under the thumb of the females. And, to be honest I have limited imagination when it comes to those type of images, so males don't feature a lot.
Loutish ('Oi, my eyes are up here'):
Besotted ('Gentle Giant finds his match'):
As for the way the G9 clothing is going. I think you have a point. It's all a bit much for everyday wear. Having said that, I'm guilty a little in the image above with G8F. Clothing similar to that the female character is wearing is sufficiently common where I live not to require remarking on, but it would get noted and used in evidence against the wearer if anything went horribly wrong later. Which, actually, is grossly unfair. Anyone should be able to wear what they like in complete safety. The thing that makes clothing like that less common here than it might be is the temperature, rather than social pressures.
One thing that benefits G9 is actually the longevity of G8. It meant that creators got the G8 skimpwear out of their systems years ago and had to start being more inventive and think more about what they were producing. And the Autofit of G8 clothing on G9 is pretty good, so that widens the pool of acceptable clothing a good deal.
Regards,
Richard
@Elor - I'm glad you like my work. As for not knowing much about the movie industry, I am hoping that my work will awaken the curiosity of people who have never watched an old movie and maybe get them hooked on them. There are so many absolutely fantastic old movies to watch. It is a real bonanza.
@richardandtracy - Your "images" are great fun. I love your sense of humor!
I personally would love to see some truly elegant clothing and accessories in the DAZ store. Clothing that an elegant woman would really wear - without the necklines plunging dangerously low and skirts riding dangerously high. I want classy stuff. Classy and tailored, not stodgy. I absolutely agree that freedom of expression is paramount (i.e. having the right to wear whatever you please and be safe) but I am talking about the lack of representation in the DAZ store of true diversity. I don't think skimpy clothing is a reflection of what is being worn by women on the streets in most places. I think DAZ store caters more to the needs of mostly young (and not only) male (and some female) fantasies. So, what about fiftyish women (like me) who dream about tasteful glamour? Almost none of that is to be found for G9. There is a lack of really normal, basic things - like a proper suit for the male characters, regular looking clothing for women, not to mention accessories and clothing done with good taste and a true designer flare.
If that was available, I'm sure we would have a lot more different kinds of renderings in the gallery and DAZ would have a much more diverse and numerous types of customers...
Elegant and classy clothing is truly lacking in DS. But, and I fear it's a pretty big caveat, it is also missing in a lot of current real life. A lot of minor celebrities try to emulate Elizabeth Hurley in 'That' dress by showing how little class they actually have, and seem to be trying to out-skimp DAZ Skimpwear. And the old Hollywood mistique is no longer really there in modern set pieces (like the Oscars, film premiers etc).
To have real class & elegance, you're right, we do need clothing contemporary for the characters you're creating. I just wish the same was available for the 2020's both in real life & in DS.
Much to my mortification, modelling clothing seems to be beyond me. Certainly it is with the engineering tools I have, but I suspect arc & straight lines have featured too strongly in my working life for me to create floppy, curvy, elegant clothing. So, no chance of me emulating PerlK's lovely clothing, unfortunately.
Regards,
Richard
Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. Classy and elegant are mostly no more. Now we have a Kardashian trying to be Marilyn Monroe and totally missing the point. Wouldn't it be wonderful though if the younger generations had a chance to rediscover the beauty of old fashion, grace of movement and the true spirit of etiquette? Actually I have something along your lines, Richard. I was looking for poses that would go with the characters I am creating and what now is considered "elegant" would once be considered in bad taste. You won't find (for example) the pose in which a true lady would sit, which is called a Duchess Slant - legs not crossed but parallel and with feet to the side, both kept on the ground. Never crossed! How about a set of true ladylike and gentlemanly poses for G9? I would gladly use them in my renders!
Who would be a best choice for a lesson in grace, class and beauty both inside and out? But of course - Audrey Hepburn! Before there was Jackie O with her pillbox hats, there was Audrey and Hubert de Givenchy whom Jackie (very smartly) also had outfits made by. I'll take Audrey anytime though! Her inner light was astonishing. That's why I called her morph Luminous.
And btw, I would be over-the-moon happy if perlk got a subscription for Marvelous Designer and made some beautiful outfits with it. Perlk - you've got talent!
Your morphs are stunning! As someone who grew up on old movies, they are instantly recognizable to me.
Personally, I think the general lack of etiquette and manners in society nowadays is reflected in fashion.
I understand that there is never going to be a true balance between males & females in the stores - but at least with G8 there was for the most part a female base released followed by a male counter-part (with the exception of just a few). So by that formula there was at least a reasonable amount of decent male content that made making fantasy, horror, sci-Fi renders easy enough. I still have the minor issue of heeled shoe problems with things that probably shouldn't be heeled but I can at least suspend reality long enough for that not to bother me too much. I need enough diversity in character design and items that I don't look like I am simply putting together a magazine shot with top models and more like it could be a realistic scene. The balance between the skimp wear and reasonable clothing was pretty good even from the beginning of the character development so that even if I had to kitbash something I reasonably could. I could have my ladies in armor that doesn't look like it's out of an 80's cartoon or the original D&D artworks. I understand that I am a bit more of rarity in the 3d art world, but I really want to represent both genders decently in my artwork. I'm not expecting anyone else to do the same.
G9 even with the ability to convert my G8 clothing & hair base (and skin textures) still doesn't give me the level of diversity I really need to be able to make the move worth the time, effort, and money required worth it. I still use a lot of my Gen4 & Genesis1-3 items on my G8 characters. Add to that the most of whats come out clothing wise is undergarments or barely covers the characters & pretty heavily for the female body...I find myself incredibly unimpressed by the generation. There are enough products that help boost G8 into a bit more realism and enough body diversity to keep my art from looking like top models simply doing genre based pin-ups.
Now onto the topic of real life clothing. Even though hollywood is the most noticeable side of fashion, it's not the whole thing. A lot of red carpet wear these days are either outrageous, wholly indecent, or honestly not really clothing at all - there are still some actors and actresses that do adhere to a classy style (Scarlett Johansson is one that comes to mind). In truth the golden age of hollywoods styles in it's time was still considered a bit more scandalous compared to the actual styles of the era (just not to the extreme's of todays styles). In today's standards yeah it is considered elegant and much subdued.
Truthfully I would be happy to see even the more normal every person version of classy and elegant - dresses that were more cocktail length and less tank top length. Suits that are nicely tailored to the body and clothing thats designed with pants rather than just thongs. I'd also really like if bodysuits weren't shrink wrapped to the female form and armor that covered more than just the chest and bikini areas (it's most impracticle to fight in)...but I know that's asking a lot of the Daz store and content artists. They have to be able to make money and if the majority of the paying base prefers Pin-up art to more subdued reasonable art...they they need to follow the path of the fan base. Especially with as time consuming as making some of this stuff is. So I figure I'll just have to settle for kitbashing where I can and sticking to a generation that better suits my artistic needs and the needs of the things I am making art for.
@sazzyazzca - Thank you for taking the time to say nice words about my work, especially as someone who knows the old movie stars.
I would go further and say that the lack of etiquette and manners as well as sloppiness in the current fashion are a result of the state of mind of a lot of young people (and some older ones too!).
@K8sGraphics - I hear you. I am very unimpressed with the content available for G9 myself. What a lost opportunity. I too would like to see elegant and well "tailored" (not shrink-wrapped!) clothing for regular men and women in the DAZ store. That would be a real treat.
The contents available on the DAZ website reflect the fantasies of mainly young men. As I have written before - this is really a self-perpetuating problem. The more skimpy/sloppy fashion we see in the DAZ store the more of only a certain part of the society gets drawn here which in turn results in more of the same content in the store... and this goes on and on. It would take a consciouss effort and willingness on DAZ's part to change this, to draw in a different kind of clients. For me most of what is available for purchase is off-putting and useless. Frankly, I think that in the long run, DAZ is shooting itself in the foot by neglecting the needs of other types of people and it's brand will be (maybe already is) associated with schlock. Is that really the image DAZ wants to project? If DAZ isn't bothered by this prospect, then it lacks vision, imo. I would love to see DAZ thrive in a healthy manner but as things are now, I see it going the way of Marvel Studios.
Coming attractions (images are also posted in my gallery)! I present you the final versions of:
Luminous G9 (Audrey Hepburn), Debonair G9 (Cary Grant) and Sultry G9 (Lauren Bacall). Enjoy!
They look amazing! I'm currently working on some attempts at creating new hairstyles for G9 from this time period using the Blender 3.0 hair system.
@wondergirl0706 - Thank you for appreciating my work. Your project sounds fascinating and very useful, given how little hairstyles that can "get away" as being from the 1940's are sold in DAZ store. Which hairstyles have you made or are making? I have no idea how sphisticated Blender's hair system is but I was thinking about getting Ornatrix for C4D (which I still have to learn) and making 1940s style hair myself. I came to the conclusion that it would be best if the hairstyles could be put together by the user from segments. This way one could have many hairstyles instead of one or two. Anyway, however you'll make them, it's great that you are doing this!
I'm starting small, mostly shorter hairstyles like the Italian pixie cut, the poodle cut, and some men's hairstyles.
That sounds awesome! Very popular back then hairstyles. I'm so happy that you are also making hair for men. We really have in the DAZ store maybe 2-3 vintage, clean cut hairstyles so your are filling a big hole right there.
Here is my latest WIP - Hero G9 aka Gary Cooper. Also posted in my gallery:
Wow! Noticable improvements on all 3.
@nonesuch00 - thank you for your kind comments in the gallery and here too!
Just dropping by to say I love what you do, @AOBB!
Likewise, my dear perlk!
