Although nostalgic, icicles from your roof means you're leaking heat and need better insulation.frown

I had too much insulation. On myself, not the roof.

I went for a second round of shoveling snow. As my typical indoor outfits were not suited for 17 degree Fahrenheit weather, I opted for a jacket with a coat, and a hat with two hoods. Never mind my legs. But I had boots too. By the time I was done, I was sweating in freezing weather. I’ve never experienced that before.

I’d say the worst of it was the few times I drove the shovel forward with all of the power I could produce and then hit an immovable object. Neighbor’s older and younger daughters came out to attempt to shovel their snow. There were more females shoveling than men at the time. Our side of the driveway is clear. The owner of the car on the other side has been pretending it doesn’t exist, so he won’t mind it being buried in snow. The only real fail is by the time I was done, the direct sunlight had moved away from our driveway.

    But there is tomorrow.

I've eaten so much cheese during the holidays...and I eat a lot of cheese normally, so I'm full now.

Non-complaint:  I'm off on a mini-adventure this morning.yes  Ancient-person's bus into town, but farther into town than usual, to a different big grocery store where there is a Subway in the same plaza and a Tim Horton's across the street.  Breakfast at Tim Horton's , major grocery shopping, a sub sandwich to take home for a couple of meals, browsing a couple of stores in the plaza, and an Uber home.  No doctors, no drug stores.  Wheee..., a pure mini-adventure.smiley

    Complaint:  It's 16F (-9C) degrees out there right now.frown

I had cold cheese. I tried to warm my cheese in the microwave. I accidentally melted my cheese. Then I didn't have cheese.

I got a lifeline number.  I got it all set up on my phone.  I can't find google play on it.  Maybe updating the iOS to latest version might help.  I doubt it for some reason.

Complaint:  Lost in the mail:  I'd ordered a flat (12 cans) of Mardarin Orange slices for inclusion in Jello.  I like the smaller 8.25 ounce cans because it's just the right amount for a bowl of Jello.  Those small cans are hard to find right now.  Groceries around here don't have them, Amazon doesn't have them, but I found just one flat available, online at the WalMart site.  Yay!  Ordered them, tracked their progress via UPS and they supposedly got all the way to "Out for Delivery" yesterday but didn't arrive, and today the tracking said that they were now 1000 miles away in Oklahoma City.surprise  Then tonight I get a refund and an apology from WalMart.  So, I guess that if I want Mandarin Orange slices in my Jello I'm going to have to get the bigger (15 oz.) cans and snack on the remainders that don't swim in the Jello.  And since unfettered Mandarin Orange slices jump into your mouth faster than peanuts, the consumption rate almost doubles.  Gets expensive.frown  They last much longer hidden away in cans or captured in Jello.

I just had the same thing happen to me from Amazon. The package was out for delivery and never showed, so went online to track it, and it was in route to San Francisco, and I'm in Ohio. How did we go from out for deliver to on the plane going to the West Coast?

     ..."hub and spoke" system.

It's why sometimes when I select a flight from Portland OR to Milwaukee WI, I find myself overlying my destination and connecting in  Detroit, Atlanta, or Charlotte NC. to a Milwaukee bound flight. (depending on the airline).. Cargo airlines and ground services do the same.  With packages it can also depend on what Amazon facility it originates from and where the closet hub to it is..

I once had some computer components sent to to me from Louisiana via UPS which first went up to St. Louis, then on to Ohio, after which they headed westbound through Chicago  Dallas, Denver and Boise (making transfers in each), before finally arriving in Portland.  Why they just didn't go to Dallas first and skip the "scenic route" is a mystery only UPS knows for sure.

Funny enough, we have an Amazon warehouse a mile and a half away.

Whatever I didn't feel while I was shoveling snow, I am feeling it now.

Complaint:  Weather:  My mini-adventure into town on Tuesday got cut short by the cold.frown  Bus ride into town OK.  Breakfast at TimHorton's OK.  Walk, one half block and across the street to the big grocery store, COLD, SNOW, WINDY, & not OK.no  Grocery shopping OK, but ended up with two very heavy bags.indecision  Decided that walking with heavy bags, outside, in the wind, cold & snow to the other end of the shopping center to the Subway, for a couple of sub sandwiches, was not going to be fun.sad  Wimped out and called Uber to take me and the bags home.  Bags and I got home OK.yes  Decided I need to buy myself a nice wool scarf, someday.

Ongoing Complaint:  Temperature on my porch this morning was 10F (-12C), and now (11:00 AM) it's still only 14F(-10C)

Non-Complaint:  No need to go anywhere today.  It's hot cocoa time again.  Wheee...smiley

Non-complaint:  Absent mindedly browsing the web.  I love these paintings:  https://www.arthistoryproject.com/subjects/politics/the-course-of-empire/

They tell (and foretell) an all-too-real story.  The size of each one is about 5x3 feet.  I saw all five of them together on temporary display in one separate room in the National Art Museum (west building, i.e. the one with the dome) in Washington DC several decades ago.  Very impressive.  The link above gives a couple levels of magnification/zoom of them needed to admire the detail.  (Click the '+' and '-' in the top right corner)  Wikipedia has an excellent article about them .

Our neighbor has used his snow plow to plow much more of the snow in our driveway. Now I have lots of room instead of having to drive through the narrow grand canyon I dug that was just wide enough to get the car through. Maybe I should thank him by presenting him with a very large fish.

That's very thoughtful of the neighbor.  And I assume the neighbor knows what to do with a fish, assuming the fish cooperates.indecision

are you sure your neighbor can take care of a large fish?  They require a lot of work to set up the several hundred gallon tank.  Also need to make sure the fish have enough swimming space.

Forgot the complaint I came in th kvetch.  There is a winter weather storm warnings in my area.  Main complaint is I'm afraid of missed hours which mean a smaller paycheck.

It's snowing here. There's about 5 inches on the ground. It's still snowing.

    I hate snow.

Only time I like snow is if I have no where I need to go so I can stay home guilt free.

so, let's say you bought fancy new pillows filled with real down feathers.

let's say you sleep on them a few nights and conclude they are just a little overstuffed, they have just a little too much loft.

let's say the store has a no returns policy, which you knew about.

let's say you decide to take some filling out.

let's s say the pillow has no zipper, so you have to cut open the fabric.

let's say the down feathers go all over the place, because apparently that's what down feathers do.

let's say the entire living room is covered with down.

let's say it's literally impossible to scoop up the scattered down feathers by hand or gather them with a broom.

let's say all this happens at in the middle of the night so you don't want to use the vacuum because of the neighbours.

    couldn't be me!

(one of the above lines is a lie)

Complaint:  Slow shipping:  I decided to buy a nice, black, soft, Marino wool winter scarf so as not to freeze my nose, lips and throat when needs be to brave the nasty days this winter when I have a raft of doctor appointments in a few weeks .  I ordered the scarf from Amazon but it won't arrive for over two weeks.sad  Murphy (of "Murphy's Laws" fame, aka: The Prognosticator Deluxe), says that the cold weather will be over by then.frown  I never thought I'd be rooting for more cold weather. surprise So far, this winter is like what I remember from my childhood in the '50s, miserably cold, deep snow, wind, and no bare ground until the end of March.  It remains to be seen if true, but I doubt it.  I predict Daffodils in February.indecision
