Our weather team is currently very confused. The snow stopped but it appears to be raining feathers. We have no idea where they're coming from.

After our neighbor plowed the bulk of the snow from our driveway, we had more snow. But it was relatively light and I was able to shovel it away. The part I previously shoveled had a thin layer of ice under it but the part he plowed didn't. So a large part of the driveway was dry quickly, and the sun is melting the rest of the ice so it can refreeze and get me later. But the plow helped a lot.

Neighbor was able to use all the melted snow to fill the giant fish tank he's building and save money on water. It's got a lot of feathers floating on top though.

"Daffodils in February" is sounding real good right now.

The sky literally does feel like it's falling here in LA. I was 50 feet away from the mandatory evacuation area in the Hollywood Hills fire. I didn't have to leave but gathered up just necessities in a backpack and my cat and photos and had them ready at the door. Luckily the winds had died down and helicopters were able to do water drops and contain the fire. But with all the other fires, it feels like the apocalypse here. Malibu is literally gone as are many other neighborhoods. Air quality is dangerous and power is out for many people. Many thousands of displaced people who either lost their homes or are on extended evacuation orders and won't have much to go home to even if their house survived because the rest of the town burned down. This is horrifyingly devastating.

That is because I posted it before I was finished typing out what I wanted to say.

My closet isn't a good spot to put my computer chair.  Closet too small plus the closet door isn't wide enough for the chair.

Basically I was experimenting with finding a new place for my computer.

On other note, it took me about an hour or so to make lunch.  Most the delay was due to not defrosting the meat last night.

Baked spaghetti is good.  Made some leftovers.  Now the challenge is to remember to eat it before it goes bad.

Complaint:  Slow shipping:  I decided to buy a nice, black, soft, Marino wool winter scarf so as not to freeze my nose, lips and throat when needs be to brave the nasty days this winter when I have a raft of doctor appointments in a few weeks .  I ordered the scarf from Amazon but it won't arrive for over two weeks.sad  Murphy (of "Murphy's Laws" fame, aka: The Prognosticator Deluxe), says that the cold weather will be over by then.frown  I never thought I'd be rooting for more cold weather. surprise So far, this winter is like what I remember from my childhood in the '50s, miserably cold, deep snow, wind, and no bare ground until the end of March.  It remains to be seen if true, but I doubt it.  I predict Daffodils in February.indecision

...on the other side of the coin a package that shipped out Tuesday morning was said to have been delayed by the weather and would not arrive until at least this coming Wednesday was delivered yesterday (Saturday). The interesting part is It is not from Amazon Prime but from an independent vendor in Easton, Pennsylvania...

  • I suspect that it would be really sensible to think long and hard about ways of making buildings less flammable. And if they catch fire, how to minimise the radiant heat to reduce the chance of it contributing to the next house going up. This is a non-trivial problem which will need time and thought to solve. During which time tens/hundreds of thousands need new homes. Which will need to be re-built in a hurry, and will be just as flammable as the old ones. Setting the city up for a repeat in a decade or two. Oh dear. Regards, Richard.

...Wonderland take care.  Hopefully you won't have to evacuate.

A few years ago during on of the worst wildfire seasons we has evacuation warning in some of the south and eastern suburbs of Portland

I looked at the maps and the evacuation warning zone for the Palisades fire extends down  into parts of Santa Monica,

On the Milwaukee (WI) Reddit someone posted map with am overlay of the total average of all the fires and it covers pretty much the entire city and county.

Oregon has sent 300 personnel and 75 engine units to assist in fighting the fires.

Canada has also sent help in the from of two Canadair CL415 fire bomber aircraft.  Those aeroplanes are amazing as they can skim a lake or river to reload with 1,600 gallons of water in about 12 seconds  Unfortunately one of the pair is out of commission due to being struck by a drone someone was flying in the area causing damage to the leading edge of one of the wings.

I was watching CNN and someone being interviewed stated that there is an ordinance that requires new homes to be built using modern fire prevention methods.  Unfortunately, only a few homes in the Palisades area are newer than that ordinance.  So, you will see large swathes of burned out land, with one house standing becuase it is newer.  Seems they think that these people will not move back because they'd be in the midst of a wasteland.  Too bad.

In all the time they've been running that thing...supposedly "curated for me"...I've only bought two things!

  • They are curated. How else could you be so unlikely to buy unless items you're not going to want are selected? Regards, Richard.

I think I've bought something once. a texture set for something I already own that magically got a stacing discount and cost me about $1. *sigh* I would really like to know what exactly their "algorithim" is working with. Because it's sure not my personal buying trends.

Oh no, wait. Twice. I bought Wolfgang 8.1 for like $5. So that was pretty good.

The "algorithm" at work here is what mathematicians like to call "totally random".

    Blessings to @Wonderland.

And to everyone coping with the wildfires and other disasters.

My complaint - my desktop won't reboot.  Is at techie place for repair.  No estimate on time to fix.

I got gallon bags of ice tea. It would easier to make cold black tea this way than the individual bags.  I don't use ice as I don't have an ice tray.  I was using a ladle to put some hot tea into a cup.  I accidentally poured some on my hand.  Apparently tea that was boiled on the stove top is hot!  I put some first aid cream on it.

I was going to make some home made jello.  However my ride came early to take me to the cinema.  I took the hot water off the hot burner and put it on a cold burner.  I covered it with a plate after I poured the frozen blueberries into the pot.

It would be cool if architects could design houses in Unity or a similar 3D modeling program and then have giant 3D printers create them at full scale in non-flammable, earthquake proof, tornado proof, tsunami-proof materials. This would save billions of trees too. And have it done in a way that it doesn't emit dangerous pollutants. I guess I'm a dreamer though...

This is so sad for my city. So much Hollywood history gone. I hope the Academy and different guilds will replace people's trophies but I know that's the least of people's problems. The wealthy will be OK but so many families are left with nothing. crying

Nope not a dreamer. There already are 3d printed houses:

About to watch a movie.  I think it is important to be comfy before going to see a movie.  Don't want to have unnecessary interruptions during the movie.

I tried texting a friend at her new number, but was answered by a scammer.  My friend's name is Linda.  I asked the scammer if they were Linda Love daughter of Jordan Love.  They said they were.

I asked why don't they ask Jordan Love for money.

after a while they gave up trying to scam me.
