Thanks, @Greybro. I like how it turned out. It had the overall feel that I was going for and I was trying a new technique to make it look like it was underwater. There was definite potential there and I'll be playing with it some more.
Nice work,Knittingmommy!
Love the Creech render! Nice job on the G8 as well. I really like the expression we can do with her as well. I am definitely going to have to go through the effort of moving character up through the generations.
Thanks, @TabascoJack!
Thanks, Sonja. I really need to move some of my favorite characters up, too. I'm loving the new Power Pose templates, especially for the expressions. That one is especially fun to play with. :) I'm really astounded with how well they did the facial rigging for G8. I'm getting some very nice expressions and she has the best smile I've seen on a 3D character so far. I'm definitely going to have to try and do a render with G8 smiling.
So, I couldn't resist getting VYK Raine for Genesis 8 by Vyktohria. She is an amazing looking character with some really nice materials. I thought I'd get a little creative with her. I was going for a more gothic feel but I didn't want a b & w image. I really like what I managed to create.

Gorgeous! Just a enough color tone to really give it the gothic feel and I love the make up.
Thanks. She was one of those things that just came together without me thinking about it. I actually set her up to do a quick test on something for @Barbult and this is what happened. I love how she turned out.
Interesting, but a little scary! I like the color tones.
@Barbult Yeah, I think she's a little scary, too. I think the color tones just went perfectly with the whole look so I'm happy. Thanks. :)
Very nice, KM! The tonal range is perfect for that sort of portrait.
Thanks, DM. I love trying new things and this one just spoke to me. It was supposed to be just a throwaway render but I liked it so much that I just kept tweaking until I got the look I wanted. I love when that happens. :)
Km, I just know noticed that your back/foreground are on probably 3 or more layers. I first saw the top? one which appears to be a light effect... then say the other side of hair where it was behind the head. Kewl!
BTW: I have just used FF for the 3rd time successfully. Modified a Wood texture for the current Carrara Challenge.
Thanks, unfortunately, I can't take much credit for that bit of happy happening. Believe it or not, that is all inside DS and is all from the HDR that I used from the iRadience - Light Probe HDR Lighting for Iray Expansion 3. I really love this light set. I really love how all of those dots of light seem to play with the hair and some seem to be in front while others seem to be behind the hair. Very cool! The only thing I did in post was play with the saturation a little more and the color balance. The rest is all straight out of DS. So, no layers.
Sure fooled me...DimensionTheory products are excellent for Carrara so I expect they would be for DS also.
Yeah, I absolutely love DimensionTheory products. :)
Very nice! Raine has so many different looks too, buyers really get their money's worth. I like the desaturated approach, very well done.
Ah, thanks, @Novica. I appreciate it. :)
And now you made me want to buy Raine... Great render/image.
Ah, cool! :) She's a great character with lots of makeup options, especially if you go for things with a gothic bent.
I'm heading out of town tomorrow. I'll try to check in on the forums occasionally while I'm gone. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get two planned tutorials uploaded. I'll do that when I get back. I hope everyone has a good week.
Have fun while you're gone!
I'll find something to do until you get back... oh wait... just rememebered I wanted to let you know that I've opened Animation in Carrara - Let's Animate - Q&A - Come One & All my latest thread. Now I already have a few more anims on YouTube but they are only very basic and not well polished... they are for a few of my new mini-tutorials on animation.
Hope you enjoy youself. ¡que tengas buen viaje!
Have a great trip - I hope everything goes well!
Thanks everyone! Just popping in real quick. I made it to my mom's safely. Tomorrow is our big family reunion so I'll get to see family I haven't seen in a few years. I'll try to pop in again before I head for home.
Glad you made it safe!
I just wanted to say that I had my famiy reunion on Sunday. I was very pleased and happy to meet Ice Dragon Art in person. She drove a couple of hours to visit where my family was having the reunion and was an honorary family member for the day. It was a blast getting to know her in person and she's just like she is on the forums. Super nice and easy to talk to! :) It was so nice to be able to put a face to someone I talk to so much on the forums.
Aw thank you! I really enjoyed myself as well and was honored that you would share your family with me! It was a blast to see so many people who are related to each other in one place! And everyone was very welcoming. And for the record, KM is just the same in person as well lol. Super nice, and really fun and easy to talk to (I'm not going to mention how nervous I was before I got there but she put me at ease very quickly!) And, she has the cutest kids ever, although I'm not sure how happy the older two would be to be called cute lol!
I'm playing catchup - you probably did Sveva's tutorial in gimp but I'll tell you how to fix your color differences in Photoshop and maybe you can transfer it into gimp. Photoshop's way involves using photoshops adjustment layers clipped to the layer you want to change. Use a levels adjustment layer clipped to your sand layer, there's a drop box at the top that says RGB. If you click that you can pick the colors you want to change. Picking blue and then taking the bottom left slider to the right will bring more dark blue color to your image and tone down the yellow. This is the way I do it but you can do the same thing using curves or a color adjustment layer. When you are done with your image running the whole thing through a nik filter like cross processing will tone the whole image and help blend things together.
I use photos on 90% of my renders, I also do a lot of photo composites - all different photos made into one new work, so if you ever need help and don't mind photoshop instructions drop me a line.
Love your G8 renders, the expressions are fantastic! I haven't had the chance to play with G8 much yet. I just got my computer system back up and running this week, then my daughter stole it to play sims. lol So I'm going though my very long list of things I want to try using my very old hp and I haven't made it to g8 yet. :) Hoping to get there soon!
We start heading home tomorrow. We left WV yesterday through Ohio and Indiana. We took a side trip to DH's old hometown and we are in a motel with horrible internet. So slow!!!! We should be back home in a couple more days.
@deathbycanon Thanks so much. I had fun playing with G8. Expressions seem to be so much easier with the new facial rigging. Thanks for the postwork tips. I can usually translate them to Gimp pretty well. Tips are always welcome. I'll give that a try when I get home.
Sonja - I'm glad I wasn't the only one nervous. It was so easy talking to you, though, so it was all good. Yeah, calling the boy's cute always embarasses the older ones. My youngest not so much. He's a cocky little thing and he knows he's all that! ;) He's a clown, too, so he has a large personality. The older two are a little more reserved.
Well, I'm home. Tired but safe. I'll have to spend a couple of days catching up on the forums. I need to render something! I haven't rendered anything in almost two weeks now! Tomorrow, though. Tonight is relaxing and don't do anything complicated. :)
