Very nice- that work was well worth it in my opinion.
@DarwinsMishap Ah, thank you. I always value your opinion! Overall, I'm very happy with how she turned out. :)
That looks really great. Very clear, and nice rim light along her face and arm. Well done.
I'm interested in the raining men event. I'm at a point where my renders aren't completely embarrassing, lol.
Despite all of your frustrations with earlier renders of her, I think she turned out really nice!
Trish
I'm interested in Raining Men! I wanted to participate last year, and started a project I never did finish....
Thank you, everyone. I'm very happy to know the all of the frustration and hard work paid off in the end. Oh, noticed I forgot to add the gallery link. I've since fixed that post with the render. Just in case anyone feels like giving her a like.
You guys will definitely have to enter the contest. It's usually loads of fun. We're gonna try things a little different this year, but it should be still be fun.
It turned out fantastic, worth all the troubles. :)
Gorgeous!
I hate those renders. Especially when you say to yourself, oh, this will just a be a simple render, nothing fancy. A week later you've chucked the computer out of the window in sheer frustration....Screaming at the top of you lungs, it was just ONE character and a backdrop for pete's sake!
Yep, this was one of those! lol
Hurricane Update for my area:
I just thought I'd update what is expected to happen in my little part of Florida. The eye of the hurricane has shifted west enough that most of what we should get here are winds around 55 miles per hour. That has been dropping since the first predictions. It was expected to be around 155 miles an hour when Irma was still coming straight up the peninsula. Then, it dropped to 125 and then 80. 55 miles per hour doesn't sound too bad after all of that. Storm surges on our beaches are now expected to be closer to 2 to 4 feet instead of 8 feet. We are already getting some light wind and rain as the storm gets closer. It hasn't even reached the Keys quite yet, but there are reports of thousands without power already.
Sending good thoughts to everyone west of me. I know of at least one PA in Tampa and then there is @Novica up in the northern part of the state that is going to get more than expected now that things are shifting west. I hope everyone stays safe.
Ditto- Stay safe and warm!
We're good here in Pensacola, thanks! Right now it's 39 mph winds predicted, and some rain. I got 9" of rain from Harvey (Texas) believe it or not, and will get less from a hurricane hitting my own state! Right now, not even an inch. It was interesting to see our forecast change. Yesterday, I was like "Get real. NO wind except 13mph? That's not right." EDIT: Now it says gusts 79 mph EDIT EDIT: Now it's moved west again, staying more over water.
Storm update: We've had lots of blowing rain and wind with some pretty nasty gusts, but we are doing okay in my area. The power has flickered and gone out, but has managed to come back on quickly. The police were ordered off the road a few times during pretty powerful storm gusts. Last I heard, there had been 63 45 arrests for curfew violation. Some of those folks were also looting. All of those arrested for curfew violation now get to wait out the storm in jail. The police can't release anyone they pick up until after the storm is completely over. 49 dogs and 2 cats were rescued by animal control because owners decided to abandon them to survive on their own. Most of those dogs were literally tied to a tree outside where there were wind gusts expected to be anywhere from 55 to 80 miles an hour. I just don't know how some people can live with themselves when they do things like that!
I thought I'd share a little video of the storm from my house.
We've also had some tornado warnings, but nothing too bad yet. Most of the tornado warnings have been for areas a little to the north of us.
Edit: I got the number of arrests wrong. Fixed that.
Glad to hear you are doing OK!
@KevinH Yep, I'm doing okay. The power has flickered, but the longest I've lost power was just a few seconds. I think the worst of the storm is over for my little corner of Florida. Tomorrow we start assessing the damage. I'm not sure what the front yard looks like, yet, but the back yard looks pretty bad. We have a huge tree down and the fence didn't make it. The dogs are going to have to get accustomed to going out on a leash for a while. I have no idea if the landlord will fix the fence. I hope they do. We were out briefly to take the dogs out when the winds had died down enough and I was so surprised to see the damage from the winds in my back yard. The good news is that the house is fine. No leaks or anything so I think the roof is good. There is a lot of debris all over the yard aside from the downed tree. It's going to take a while to clean it up. It's been a long day so I'll be heading to bed soon.
Glad to hear you weren't hit too hard.
I'm glad you're doing well. I swear to heaven, if I saw someone abandon a dog like that, I would need bail money.
Stay safe, and I pray this passes you quickly. Here in Houston, we're still picking up the pieces after Harvey, but things are returning to normal.
Pretty windy, KM. Glad you are fine and that you don't have structure damage. Guess the fence fixing depends on how many properties the landlord has damage to repair. Is the downed tree pretty big?
Good to know you're alright- very glad it was just the fence.
I'm very grateful it was just a fence. I think our neighborhood faired very well. We still have power, too. I've heard there are close to 200,000 homes without power this morning in our area.
I was just out taking video and photos of all of the damage in the backyard. The tree that was down was taller than the house and now it is laying on its side and the entire root ball is up out of the ground with another section of fence sitting on top of it. I don't know what type of tree it was. It is some type that didn't have one central trunk, but had a lot of trunks close together and all of the roots kind of interlock. I'll have to do some research and let you know what it is when I find out. I'd say it was probably a good 20 feet tall and the base with all of the trunks together spread out about 5 feet. I can't even get to the other side of the tree to take pictures because the branches are are spread out blocking the other section of the yard and fence.
This is the top of the tree:
This is the same tree with a side view of the tree and the fence:
The other section of downed fence:
That is part of the same tree that is down (off to the right of the downed fence there is a little tree and then the rest is the downed tree) and it blocks the rest of the fence so I don't know if that back part of the fence is still standing or not. As soon as I can get out, I'll try to take some pictures from the other side if I can get to it. I haven't checked to see if the curfew has been lifted yet.
The house looks fine, no missing roof tiles and nothing actually hit the house. In the front, there are palm fronds everywhere and we have someone's recycling bin in our front yard near the new van. It doesn't look like either of the cars got hit by anything, though. I didn't see a single scratch on either one of the cars. I only saw one coconut on the ground. They keep the coconuts harvested pretty well around here. Most of the coconuts in our tree are young ones and they are all still in the tree.
There are more photos here if anyone wants to see them. I have a video, too. As soon as it is done uploading and I have a YouTube link for it, I'll post that. Just my little corner of the world. There are a lot of homes that did not fair as well.
edit: forgot one of the pictures so I had to add it.
edit again: Fixed pictures. For some reason, the links weren't working where I have them posted so I just uploaded them instead and fixed the links.
It's great to hear you're all safe. That's a pretty big downed tree. Hopefully the fence can get repaired atleast temporariy with a few 2x4's for the dogs sake. I didn't realize that there were curfews in place.
@FirstBastion Thanks. Yes, I'm very happy that we are all safe. There were some tornado warnings, too, but I don't think there were any verified tornados touching down in our area. All of the damage seems to have just been from high winds, but it was scary there for a while with all of us huddled in the safest room together.
Not all of the communities had curfews, I don't think. Our county had a curfew starting at 3 pm on Saturday until this morning in an effort to keep people off of the streets during the storm. Not everyone decided to keep to curfew, though, as there were some arrests for just curfew violation. Those people were held until after the storm for their own safety. There was some looting, too, and those people will have more charges added on to the curfew violation which I've heard was up to $500 and up to 60 days in jail. I heard that a couple of counties had decided not to have a curfew and then changed their minds. I'm not sure if all of the nearby counties ended up doing curfews or if there were still some counties which didn't do a curfew.
As for the fence, I guess it all depends on what the landlord decides to do. I would think they have insurance since it was a rental property, but one can never tell about these things. I will be really upset if they decide to just tear it all down as that would cut down on the privacy. One of the reasons we rented this house was because of the fenced in backyard for the dogs. I won't know anything until someone from the landlord comes out to see the property. It's a corporation that owns a lot of homes in the area and I'm sure they will have homes with damage that will take priority over ours since we didn't have any kind of structural damage to the house.
You know, one expects to hear about one or two isolated incidences like that, but to hear that so many people in one small area decided it was a good thing to just abandon their pets is very upsetting. I'm very glad that things are starting to return to normal over there in Houston. After all of the rain you guys got, that's really good news.
Post hurricane update. I haven't been able to render anything yet. Every time I start, the power glitches and shuts down my computer so I gave up for now. First chance I have to get a battery backup, I am. I really should have gotten one before now, but I kept putting it off. Yes, @Isidorn, I know you've been telling me that for months now. :)
I was out taking more pictures before we started clean up. I managed to take some pictures of the fence behind the downed tree that took out the fence. It's a mess and the fence is in worse shape than I first thought. The whole back fence came up with the tree, not just the one section of fence that shows in the picture that I uploaded. I still can't see all of the fence. I have no idea what the fence on the other side of the tree looks like as the tree is blocking visibility of that section.
That used to be all in a sort of straight line. Now, the fence is all pushed out and not where it was originally. The fence sections have all been uprooted from their mooring which were cemented into the ground.
I'm really hoping to play with new stuff. Did you know they have had toon stuff in the store for the last two days!!!! I love Lady Littlefox! I got the cute little Precious Deer yesterday. My first test render before the power glitched:
I did manage to take a couple of test renders of him before the power went out again. Not a real render, but just the start of something I was playing with after that first test render:
I picked up the Precious Unicorn today, but I haven't been able to get him installed yet. I wonder what tomorrow will bring?
edit: fixed picture link.
Glad you're safe and had minimal damage, all things considered. Talk about being a driven artist, you're still rendering through out all of that! Cute deers.
Well, I tried. Luckily, they rendered very quickly. I did finally give up after my computer shut down the third time. Gonna have to get that battery backup by the end of the week! I have a head full of ideas for these toons. I don't dare work on the render I was working on before all of this started. I'm sure that will take a long time to render. I was working on a render with both Dylan and Jackson in it. I was really liking how it was coming together, but I'm not even going to attempt rendering that while the power is still fluctuating so much until I have that backup.
Nothing worse than really really needing to sit down and destress by doing a render and then not being able to to it. Ugh! So grateful you guys are all safe though.
I was working on this piece with the Preicous Deer and a Star 2.0 fairie. I really liked how the postwork turned out. I was experimenting with a kind of dreamy look and I think I got the look I wanted. However, no one in my family liked it so I'm not sure if it's any good or not. So, I'm seeking opinions. Tell me what you think, good, bad, or indifferent. I need to know because I was so happy with how it turned out. Now, I'm questioning myself. I've been learning so many good postworking techniques and I love trying them out. I'm beginning to wonder, though, if what I'm doing it any good. So feedback would be much appreciated.
Original render:
Postworked:
I think the contrast is a bit high in the postworked one; it overwhelms the picture's content. But I wonder how much of that is just monitor differences? I know that sometimes I take a picture I've made and I upload it and suddenly it's so much darker.
Hmm, I don't know. It seemed okay to me. I was really trying for a kind of dreamy feel to the whole thing. I might have to play with it a little more. I'm thinking I'll take a break and look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow. Looking at it fresh might be a good idea.
