So I solved my issue with the error messages of the Daz connect folder and the morph folders...the issue is that both my cloud folder for connect and Daz 3D where the morphs from GenX are both in the data folder. So the change I made was to click on the Connect Path button which only lists E:/My Library/data as the path but I needed to add cloud to it so it now reads E:/My Library/data/cloud and I have nothing for the output path.   Once I made that change my character transfer worked perfectly.  I hope this can help anyone else who can't get off the Daz Connect/morph folder error message merry go round in GenX.  When I went to the shaping tab under Genesis 3 female and clicked on GenX folder I now have Genesis 2, Victoria 4, and my new lola character transfer altho I am not sure why Genesis 2 is there as I haven't done any transfer with her yet.

IsaacNewton: There are subtle differences in the created morphs depending on the "Shape" selection. Because other than the clone shape will not be identical to the original shape, morphs have to be adjusted. In particular finger nail morphs will not work correctly when used with a different shape. The Fast/Edge/Smooth difference is also subtle, but may improve quality.

mgessat_f159911d19: The Genesis CR2s are only created when you load Genesis into Poser with DSON importer or if you export Genesis as a CR2. GenX only supports to load the original Genesis files in DS format, not in Poser format. Why don't you use the morphed OBJ to create a morph for G2 in DSF format and transfer that? (I'm not sure if there is a way to get morph values from the CR2 into Genesis in DS format by using a pose, but may be worth a try as an alternative.)

Greybro: Did you morph G3 into M4 shape with the clone morph under *** People ***? All transferred morphs are still morphs (relative changes of the mesh), so you have to morph the Genesis figure into the shape of the source figure for the morphs to work.

Kharma: Check your DS Format directories in Content Directory Manager. GenX is a bit over-restrictive to prevent morphs are written into the DAZ Connect folder (where they would not be loaded), so the first DAZ Format folder has to be different and outside of the DAZ Connect folder (compare the discussion with RCDeschene above).

D3D my Content Directory Manager says my Daz Connect folder is E:/My Library which is the same as my Daz Studio Formats Folder. E:/My Library/data contains both the cloud folder and the morph folder where the GenX files are created that's why the merry go round of errors, because they are both at the same level.  As soon as I added the cloud folder to the Connect path the GenX tranfers worked as they should.  I posted my fix here in case that was the same problem others were having with the same errors.  I am just happy that it works as it should now :)

You should not have the Data folder (or the Runtime folder) or any of their sub-folders set as a content directory - you should always select the folder that contains the Runtime and Data folders, DS will then know to add the extra folders as needed. Having nested content directories (the content directory itself and the Data or other folders isnide it) both selected is likely to cause errors as DS will get confused about which is the base path and where to start the relative path.

Richard, the data folder is not set as the content directory in Studio, my content directory is set as E:/My Library the only thing I changed was in the GenX pane where it said to set the Connect Path.  That path was set as E:/My Library/data/  I simply added cloud to it so it made that path outside the one for the GenX morphs. Now everything works as it should, but what you could help me with is my post over in Daz Studio discussion as to why my DS 4.9 that I just upgraded just shuts down as soon as I load a figure and then click on it

Edit: I noticed the reason GenX worked without issue on my laptop in DS 4.9 Beta is because the Connect path in GenX points to the default path set by studio on C: because I don't use connect on that computer so there was no conflict.  On my desktop I changed everything so all files would be installed on a second drive instead of my ssd boot drive so that caused a conflict.

    Hi Kharma,

The morphed V4 figure is saved as a cr2 file (from Poser actually as I don't know how to do that from DS) and then this is loaded into GenX window within DS.

Where oh where is Tiffany_g3f hiding??? (see attched image; V4_Tiffany and Base G3f are in the scene but Tiffany_g3f is no where to be seen)

*** People *** is ony for the clone morphs, that are adjusted automatically by GenX. Your transferred morphs are in the sub folders of the Generation X folder named by the source figure and target shape. For a morph to work correctly, you always need to dial in the base shape of the source figure as well.

If you are searching for a particular morph, you can use the search feature in DS. In the "Enter text to filter by..." field on top of the morphs, you enter "Tiffany", and DS highlights the folder(s) where it is.

Thanks DS, that was finally it. Dial in V4 on to G3f first and then add the specific head morph.

Now I can go play making some other morph transfers.

    ********* EDIT*********

Hmm. Seems the V4 isn't necessary afterall... just a case of finding the morph in the Head section.

Either way, I'm happy now :)

Here is a comparison of the original morphed v4 and the transfer to G3f; quite close, I think.

    Yes, thanks.

To be honest though if this were not such a useful product I would have given up a long time ago. The truth is, this is an essential tool for DS users. I do understand why DAZ3d might not particularly go out of their way to build this function into DS; it might result in less sales of the latest figures. Personally I believe that the reverse is true. By providing a way of making figure shapes interchangeable the usefulness of all DAZ3d figures increases and eases the minds of those who might ask... "So, when the next generation of figures comes out will I have to start my collection from zero yet again?" With tools like GenX and GenX2, the answer is no. What I invested in V4, Genesis, and Genesis 2 all remains valuable and with this mindset I am more confident in investing in Genesis 3.

So, I am grateful to D3D for stepping up and filling an obvious failing in DS by providing the GenX and GenX2 addons.

    Hi Kharma,

Earlier you mentioned loading a figure into GenX2 as a duf file. Up until now I have been using cr2 files but it would be much easier to do everything from within DS. In fact I have a character for Aiko4 which I want to transfer. This character (Anais) doesn't port properly when I try to make it in Poser and then load it into DS.

Currently when I make the Aiko4 character in DS and save it as an Asset (figure) I get an error message saying that the figure as to be weight mapped (why, I have no idea!). When I follow the instructions and convert the figure to a weight mapped figure, DS screws up the eye positions (see attached images). Whether I choose Triax or general weight mapping, DS still screws the eyes up, albeit in a different way (as shown in the images)!

There is no way to change the x,y,z coordinates of the eyes , so I cannot even correct the error.

So, how do you save a morphed V4 (or in this case Aiko4) figure as an Asset that you can load into GenX all within DS?

Isaac I believe any gen4 figures have to be in cr2 format to transfer, only genesis  and gen2 can be converted as duf.  If you check the tutorial that Kerya posted a link to on the first page of this discussion by Seliah it explains very well how to do different transfers.  The eyes of some of the gen4 characters have been a problem when exporting and I think there is an eye fix for some especially Thorne characters that you can export as a preset dial and if not you can try scaling and moving the eye until it looks good.

    Hi Khama,

I solved the eyes problem by not using a cr2 from Poser but making the V4 morphed figure in DS and exporting (using Export, suprisingly enough :) ) as a cr2 file. Then for some reason I don't get the warning about needing a triax weight mapped figure, so no need to convert and therefore no eye problem. (btw as I said there is no way, that I can see, to move the eyes in the x,y,z direction. Check out the above images and there are no x, y, z transformation dials available.....unless you know of a way to unhide those dials)

Click on the tab menu (the arrow with four lines in the left top corner over the tabs) of the Parameters tab in DS and enable "Show Hidden Properties" to access the translate and scale parameters in the eyes of V4.

RCDeschene: It's partly my fault, because my check in GenX for not storing morphs inside the "cloud" (where they would be ignored) is too restrictive.

I see. So, is there a way to alter this to make it not be an issue?

I may change this in a future update for the plugin. But I don't consider this an urgent issue, because there is a simple workaround by adding a content directory distinct from the Connect path.

    Hi Kharma,

I'm not sure there is much more I can say. I loaded V4 and the morph i wanted then used Export to save the V4 figure as a cr2 file. I selected cr2 as the file format instead of obj. I then loaded this cr2 file into GenX2 (it works either by loading a figure or draging and dropping the cr2 file into the GenX2 window). GenX2 did not then require this figure to be converted to triax weightmapping, which is where the problem with the eyes occurs, and so the eyes were not distorted. I then went on to Transfer the V4 shape onto G3f as normal in GenX2. It worked fine.

Seems only Kalea 7 is affected by the problem. I also wonder if this happens for others as well. (I don't have Kalea 7.) The error message should only happen if the morph file doesn't contain the information that GenX needs, or if something is incoherent. But the Kalea 7 morph works for you, when you load Genesis 3 Female?

Okay, so I recently switched to Mac (OSX El Capitain, for those wondering) and thus had a fresh install. Loaded a bunch of stuff via Daz Connect, some (like DarioFish's morphs) manually. I reinstalled GenX2 and its components via DIM, but nothing is showing up under the 'Customize > Panes' menu pertaining to GenX2 and its add-ons. And yes, everything had "default" paths as to where things should go. What do? D:

I can live with my Gen2 models for now, but ughhh... I was so hoping to move to Gen3 after switching computers.

Did you enter the serial number for GenX2 under "about installed plugins"? If not, GenX2 will not be loaded. If you did, then press F3 for the customize dialog, where you should find GenX under Panes on the Actions side. You can then put it anywhere into the menus.

Updated GenX2 and the Add-ons with no problem at all yes I actually have all of them so I wasn't able to benefit from the sale blushwink

    Here's a test:

The first one (with thinner brows and Hongyu's Bikini) is DigitalTouch's Lorraine from the original G2F base.  The second one (with the thicker brows from Oh My Brows and the Bandeau Bikini) is G3F using GenX3/G3F and Cayman Studios Legacy UVs coollaughyes

Hi so far my Gen X2 update for G3 works great, I managed to import my G2F characters with only minor tweaks
(eg some of the GenX specific morphs used to port an old character from V4 to G2F, like Jaw translations, are not ported when I then port the G2F morph from G2F to G3F).

Unfortunately, the jaw bones are assigned to the mesh very differently in V4, Genesis, Genesis 2, and Genesis 3. In particular Genesis 3 will not work well because the Gums/Teeth are a separated mesh in the other figures, but not in Genesis 3. There are two options. On the one hand, there are correction morphs in Genesis 3 to fix problems that are caused when transferring the scaling for the jaws. On the other hand, you may freeze the scaling into a morph by exporting the morphed/scaled geometry as an OBJ and then reimport it as a morph that works without scaling. (The latter may still need manual joint adjustments.)

How apt that IsaacNewton would codify the gravity of this situation for me, clarify my understanding, (and also use as an example the very V4 character I was attempting to convert to G3F). If not for his screenshots I might never have resized the GenX window so I could get a better view (especially since the first several times I attempted to drag and drop the character preset into GenX, nothing seemed to happen). Although I understand English very well, I am not fluent in Poserese, in which the GenX manual is written, or rather, encoded.

Turns out my initial problems were caused by GenX 2.0x in the Plugins folder keeping the newer version (2.1.0.0) from properly installing (and I would not have known about this if not for item 4 of Dimension3D's caveat checklist on page 3---about halfway down the page). After that, I still did not understand that the character morph would appear in the Parameters tab under Generation X after I had loaded Genesis 3 Female Base (because it was not explicitly stated as such). Nor was it mentioned that I would have to dial in the appropriate amount of the character and of Victoria 4 to get the desired results; (I found that .5 of Victoria 4 and 1.0 of the character got me closest to the original Tiffany V4 character).

Speaking of building characters, I find that Daz Studio and its lack of documentation (or easily accessible documentation) forces me to continually and consciously stay calm because the rising tide of frustration always beckons. Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread so I could glean enough to finally get my first character converted. I humbly request that anyone else who fights through the morass of jargon to get to the GenX promised land share their eureka insight(s) that cleared the way for them.

hi, managed to transfer full body morph from V4 to G3F, works well, thanks.

I'm just wondering though, with converting from V4 the result is the V4 default pose when I dial it in converted morph or the V4 morph rather...

How do I keep the G3F default pose when I dial in *** People *** / V4 rather than the V4 pose?

Also should I select 'Seperated Nailbed' when converting from V4 to G3F?

And what does the 'Prefer clone shape' option do?

zen3dzen_f7e6e61b4f: Have you installed the updated plugin? Check the version info for "Genesis Generation X2" in "about installed plugins". Only the most recent version 2.1.0.0 is able to read the actual figure definitions.

Cerene: A morph is a relative change of a mesh. So, it is inevitable that the target figure has to be morphed into the shape of the source figure for the transferred morphs to apply correctly. This includes the original "pose", i.e. unposed shape. An alternative is to use one of the V4 legacy shapes available for Genesis 1 or 2. But still, these will have differences in pose.
