Thanks, Novica. Yes, the bright line near the man's mask is distracting and annoying. Not sure exactly what's going on there. If I take the mask off, it goes away, but I don't know whether that's the solution I want. Not sure about the ripply effect on the man's coat either...experimenting with a few different looks there.

Made some improvements to the lighting and shaders, including the man's skin. You'll have to wait for the final version though. ;-)

Shading Rate of 0.2 (which is what I usually use) isn't going to cut it for this scene. I think that's what I used in the render above. Cranking the render settings up close to Insane levels (see AdamR001's Render Profiles) is making a big difference.

    The Body of a Venus

Character is V6 with a number of morphs applied. She's based on the Venus of Willendorf and other similar prehistoric "fertility goddess" figurines.

Set and lighting (and hair and clothing) are from G2F Starter Essentials, and as a result I don't consider this enough of an original work to display it in my gallery, so I thought I'd post it here. It was a fun image to do: the Starter Essentials content is outstanding, and G2F's full-figured morphs work really well. I think there is beauty in people of all shapes and sizes, and hopefully that comes through in this piece.

(And as for the WIP I had posted last month, I'm saving the final version for March Madness!)

NICE use of the Idea. By the way just a bit of Primitive Life info for you and others. The Venus has been found in more than one location in different types of art, even cave drawings. It is becoming known as the Earth Goddess form, as only mothers can create life (female form) and Earth provided all that was needed for life (the Ample or Plenty of the shape). That is not fully accepted but just one of the possible interpretations now being discussed for the reason the same form is found in so many different places.

Here's the final, non-postworked version of my "Mad Lab" render. I call it "The Awakening."

The lightning bolts come with The Mad Lab set and are morphable, which is pretty cool. I actually loaded two copies of them: one with the default materials, and the other I converted to UberArea so that it would serve as a light source. I didn't mess with most of the lab--the default DS mats are quite nice--but I did remove some of the reflection maps and converted the thing with the spheres to a metallic shader from this set: http://www.daz3d.com/dld-high-gloss-metallic-shaders-for-ds. I like how the figures and lights are reflected in that surface.

The lighting is custom (I started with one of the lightsets included with The Mad Lab but ended up removing some of the lights and making big adjustments to others) with most of the light coming from Advanced Spotlights and the Advanced Ambient Light.

I used the Subsurface Shader Base on both of the characters. The female has no diffuse skin texture at all.

Edit 2014/03/09: Temporarily pulling this...may have jumped the gun on calling it "finished!"

Here are a couple of recent ones:

    1. Princess Anna from the movie "Frozen." This is pretty much finished, although I want to experiment with using a fog camera or other volumetric camera on it. Custom G2F character using London skin texture by danae, and Lada Hair by Nursoda. Also features Viking Village Bundle, dress by Pusey Designs (wilmap), Lisa Texture for Teen Josie 6 (eyes), and Skin Builder (lighting only). Also used Khory's Skin Surfaces tutorial to help convert the skin to the AoA Subsurface Shader (took some effort to get it right). Expression is custom and I worked at it for a while to make it look like some of Anna's expressions from the movie.

    2. In the Game of Musical Thrones...
...you win or you die. RRRR contest entry inspired by Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire, and the game musical chairs. You can find this one in my gallery if you wish to see a rather extensive list of products used.

    3. Queen Joan featuring the terrific new Joanie HD character by FWArt and Fisty. I did customize the character a little. I'm sure I was inspired by Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire for this one too, although she isn't supposed to represent a specific character from that series. Also used Royal Court Bundle, Persephone Hair, Advanced Lighting Bundle, and Fayre dress (with some shaders by parrotdolphin).

Queen Joan has got beautiful lighting Scott-L :) It really showcases the character and the setting, a perfect balance. I notice little things, and I particularly like the lighting on the knuckles.

And a couple of brand-new ones! Not sure if these are finished or not. They both need names! Anyone have any suggestions?

The female is a younger version of Domina, and the male is a mix of Sam, Hiro 5, David 5, and some Morph Resource Kit morphs.

Oh wow Scott! You have been productive, Loverly portraiture there! And I also wanna say I quite like your body of a Venus render, shes an excellent character and I think shes gorgeous and full of life, so your objective certainly came through to me Lighting and shaders very impressive :) And Nice work also with your toon render, you pulled that off very nicely :cheese:

    Nice work!

You want names? The gilr looks liek she could be a Larissa or something along those lines. The elfish boy looks like trouble, but can't really think of a fitting name. Sylvan or something perhaps?

So, I've been working on a generic, multi-purpose portrait light rig and set, utilizing the Advanced Ambient Light, Advanced Spotlight, and primitives. You can see it in use on many of the renders on the previous page in this thread, and also here on the raccoon. The set is just a big primitive cube (and on some of the renders, I added a primitive plane to serve as a floor, so that the floor and walls can have different surface settings). Soon I'll be sharing the scene file so that others (who own the Advanced lights) can play with it, tweak it, and maybe offer suggestions for improvement.

I was inspired by the work of wowie who has gotten some excellent results out of the SubSurface Shader and an UberEnvironment2-based light setup. Wowie shared the light settings here, which I didn't see until after I'd already put my own setup together.

I don't know why this name came to mind- but for the dark haired gal, I like the name Serafin.
It's simple but elegant, and can be used as fantasy and any time period.

LOL- I posted before I read the rest of the thread- Mori-Mann picked Sylvan and I said Serafin! What a team.

Here's the portrait light scene file as promised...

    1. Go to this image in my gallery (an example of what the scene will look like when rendered)
    2. Click the "Download Scene File" button (you might need to right-click it and choose "Save As...")
    3. Open that scene file in DAZ Studio 4.6 (might require most recent version). Genesis 2 Female loads in the default position; you can replace her with any figure of your choosing.

Requirements: Advanced Ambient Light, Advanced Spotlight (or Advanced DAZ Studio Light Bundle)

Anyone is welcome to try it out...if you want, you can post any feedback, suggestions, or renders to this thread. :)

One tip: If you wish to use it, set any hair in your scene to a Diffuse Strength of 99%. The lights are optimized to render hair more efficiently under those conditions.

And, here's an example of how the lights look on Michael 6 (somewhat modified)

Age of Armour Subsurface Shader at Work.

First image is Stolz for Genesis (plus some additional aging morphs). Mats included with character, rendered without any alteration. I used the EHSS mats, not the DS Default mats.

Second image is the same scene, with Stolz converted to the Subsurface Shader. I used Khory's Introduction to Character Surface Settings tutorial as a reference.

I like the second image better, although the out-of-the-box materials for Stolz are quite good too!

Lighting is based on my "Livingston Light 1" setup mentioned previously (uses Advanced Ambient and Spot Lights).

Here's my "Frozen" fan art, finally...

This is the raw render. A postworked version can be found in my gallery or at my DeviantArt page.

I used a stone shader (I don't recall which, but I can look it up if anyone is curious) to change the grass to something that looks more like a snowy ground.

Thanks to wilmap for the outfits!

I'd argue you do eyes better than most. You could perhaps stand to have a different set of irises but otherwise it looks good.
