Finally got the boring RL stuff out of the way long enough to finish my first one. Meet The Man From Moscow ("You were expecting maybe a hobbit?"). Re-purposed items are the eye makeup and lip gloss which is Vicky 4's, also most of the outfit. I put it together from a V4 second skin pack and one of her "club wear" collars re-textured to match. Was going for a blend of urban fantasy/1960's spy series but unfortunately there are no really sexy leather catsuits for the guys to slink around in so I had to make my own.

Model is Michael 4 with Victoria 4 UVs. Character is a blend of Michael 4 and Guy 4. Rendered in PoserPro 2014, postworked (color boost and an ear fix) in PSP.

Thank you very much. Yes it took a bit to get all to get all the arms and hands in position :D

  • Sorry, I have a question... Could the contest hosts please clarify the "no female morphs" rule for the case of the originlal Genesis? // because if I do enter, I will most likely use this figure //

For instance, I have a number of MR morph kits, like those by Thorneworks here in the store. Does this rule mean I can dial in morphs from this one:

    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-body-morph-resource-kit-2

    - but not this one? http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-head-morph-resource-kit-1

I don't see a problem with the first one as they are all male morphs.  The second one might be a little dodgier as they are specifically V4 morphs for Genesis even though they are just facial morphs.  It would be better if you can manage to stick with just the male morphs.

Here is my 1st entry I hope it is good enough for this contest.

Rendered in 3Delight but thinks I will try it in IRay tomorrow and if it turns out better in IRay I will switch it if that is ok?

Titled: Daemon and Micheal out for a drive

Edited to swap out the 3Delight for my IRay one

Another one I picked up. This is Rolf with bits from Battle Bundle - Vikings. The bacdrop is MPCyclorama. Lighting is one distant light and the Iray dome with Arches_E_PineTree_3k.hdr in the Environment Map (this is the same one used in my previous post). Rendered in 15 mins CPU only.

This is the 1st of my 3 entrees called 'Barn Etiquette'

Looking at it I am OK with it but I think I will edit the scene and replace the texture set used on the ramp and the ones used on the barn although the barn textures are OK. In fact I decided I am going to paint my house next summer in this flat barn red and flat barn white if I can find them.

I may make an updated entry that has replaced all the hair on the horse, man, and woman with 'LAMH' hair but from what others have said I couldn't produce that much hair with LAMH in so short a time or in that those classic hair styles the characters both have now.

You need too 'ground' your figures as they are floating :)

Thanks, actually they aren't floating, I checked again, but it's the texture from that ramp is showing it's suitable anymore and the very white white of Pam's shoes. It's this effect you get also from the sharply deliniated DAZ 3D person and animal models compared to the somewhat less sharply focused texture materials used on most DAZ models for ground and buildings too. It sort of helps create a pseudo-3D effect when it looks like the camera DOF has done it but other times like this it just looks like the characters are not placed properly on the ground. crying

I am going to work on improving the image between now & contest close. Maybe replace Mr Ned with 3DU's Horse and try the spherical lens additional capabilities from the newest DAZ Studio 4.9 Beta.

The shadow from the horses leg shows it is at least six inches off the ground :)

Looks like we are starting to get more entries!  Keep them coming everyone.  @Saphirewild, yes, swapping is allowed.   @Scorpio asked that same question and I adjusted the rules to reflect the yes answer that I got for that query.  See Rule number 11 at the bottom of the first post where all of the rules are.  :)

As to the possibility of swapping out entries, I'll have to think about that and get back to you.  It was allowed in the first contest, but it was a special case where a new male figure had just been introduced and adjustments were made to accommodate that event.  I will ask the experts on such things and let everyone know what the official stance is on swapping out entries in the next couple of days.

As there have been rumours of 'Lucien' being released, it would be nice if that was possible  - as I really hope he will be released before the end of the year.

Just out of curiosity why is the contest thread here in the Art forum where I feel it will get less exposure?

I just realized that I missed a question.  Sorry about that @Scorpio.  Simply put, that's where I was told to put it.  I think when the forum switched over awhile back and they created the Art Studio forum, the idea was to have all threads with pictures over here.  Some threads that are in the Commons are mostly hold overs from the way the previous forums were set up, I think.  The, it was always there type of thing.  There are a few thread exceptions to that.  Last year, the contest was in the Commons, but had developed from all of the threads and talk about the lack of products for the men at the time.  According to the forum rules, it should have been put in the Art Studio.  When I was working on putting this contest together, I was told it had to be in the Art Studio which is why I also have a link in my signature for the thread.

I would love for the contest to have more exposure, but I also want to follow the rules.  I would love for this contest to have a chance to become an annual event.  If it is successful this year, and I think it has to show that it can do that in that Art Studio, then that might be a possibility.

This past year, we have seen an increase in the number of products for men as well as an increase in the number of quality men themselves.  I'd love for this trend to continue.

If anyone wants to see this contest be a success and you want to see it continue to grow, I see no reason why anyone who wishes to do can't also put a link to the contest in their signature.  The more advertising we can do while you guys are all out talking on the forum the better.  :)

:sigh: Another morph question. Michael 4's feet are not as nice as they could be no matter what I do with them. There is a product that helps called Perfect Toes for V4, M4 and Genesis, however as the same morphs must be injected no matter if it's Mike or Vicky I'm not sure if it qualifies. If not, does anybody know where I can find feet fixes for Michael 4? The only ones I've found so far are all for Victoria and even though they do work on M4 I'm thinking they're also not suitable for this contest.

I'm not familiar with that particular product.  However, if the same morphs are used for all figures, I would consider those morphs to be more gender neutral.  I don't see any reason to disqualify an image using such gender neutral morphs.

  • ByrdieByrdie Posts: 1,783

Thanks. Yes, the same morphs are used by all figures but as per usual Vicky gets more pose flexibility than Michael does with it. I think he was added on when the creators discovered that the base morphs of their product also worked on him. So if I do use it, I'll stick only to the M4 poses.

    Oops, thanks again.

I was so worried about textures I didn't even notice the shadows.

Turns out because the way the ramp to the barn doors are modeled drop to floor didn't work at all or maybe it did but it dropped to floor at the height inside the barn and not on the ramp. So I manually dropped to floor and posed that the feet of all three characters are positioned so that they slope with the ramp or pretty close as the best I could see while doing it.

So now I will replace the ramp dirt texture with a newer iRay shader preset and maybe the barn, although I don't think I'm goging to find a newer barn texture for a iRay preset so I'll have to delete the albedo portions and just use colors for that part and see how that works. I think there are wood iRap shader presets that will have the wood grain maps I need if I can manage to scale them correctly.

I'm not sure but is a skin texture set made for a female character considered repurposed if you use it on a male character? Or is that done so often it's not considered repurposing like a product that has an actual mesh as part of it.

    Thanks.

  • If I were judging, I probably wouldn't consider that Re-Purposed.  Mostly the Re-Purposed category is targeted to clothing geared to the females, but used on the males in believable or unique ways.  I think most of us swap skins so much between figures that it is pretty much the norm, although usually it is done between like gendered characters, but not always.  There are just some skins out there that look really good on either gender, they are just that good.
