    Nope.

(FWIW, i found the reality issue I talked about on the previous page WAS CAUSED by having the older image mounted)

  • ScavengerScavenger Posts: 2,670

Ok, using that clue, I went looking in DIM, and found Postgres is something to be installed there..since it was in the manifest from the old, I deleted it, then did a fresh install, and rebuild the database and now things are working. WOO!

Some shaders seem to be having issues..but that's an issue for another day.

Can you send me a crashlog or two and I can take a look. Which CUDA version did you get?

Totte, I will send that info to you tomorrow, thanks!  Mike (who is a computer guy & helping me out) will be back then & will know how to find that information . . . I'm truly a newbie at all this.

    Thanks so much again!

    Hi Totte,

We're sending you the crashlog files.

Here's the CUDA DMG Version that we installed.  CUDA 7.5.25 it seems we used cudadriver-7.5.25-macos.dmg to install CUDA.  After we installed it, we were able to see the video card listed in the picture below.

We're also attaching 2 crash log files that happened today, soon after we changed the viewport window to IRAY (and also changed the render setting to Iray). Shortly after we load a figure into the viewport with the settings on Iray, the Daz program shuts down.  The whole computer shuts down (not just the Daz program) if we try to render anything using IRAY.  We can try to send you a crash log of the complete computer shut down crash as well if it will be helpful.

We may not have finished installing CUDA! Do we perform the Terminal commands as  listed in the attached instructions??

As always thank you so much!

    Mike and Paul

PS - In spite of our problems with the Iray feature, I've still been able to make progress using 3D Delight, so the learning is going great. :-)

OK, before loading anything into the scene, go to the Iray Advanced Render Settings and disable the Optix Prime Accelration. Quit DS (so it save the prefs), load again. Does it still crash?

We did turn of the Optix Prime Acceleration, and it started to render succesfully, as it had a few times before, but the computer crashed again, shutting down just after rendering 99% of an Iray image. We're attaching a crash report if it's useful.

I'll try rendering again now that I've restarted the computer.  We're wondering if we're using the maximum amount of the graphics card memory and the system memorry when using Iray (8GB and 32GB respectively) [would Cuda-Z help us see that]?  And we haven't installed the XCode per CUDA  install instructions PDF above, if that has anything to do with the crashing . . .

Very grateful - Paul & Mike

You don not need XCode, and do you have both CPU and GPU checked?

And the report wasn't the crash-report really. They are found in "Console.app" then click the toolbar button so you see the "log list" to the left, then go to crash reports.

The two crashes in your last post where both inside Optix thats why I asked you to turn it off.

  • 3DNewbie3DNewbie Posts: 40

We do have CPU and GPU both checked in.

Would  this be the correct report?

    I know we'll get there . . .

    Thread 17 Crashed: liboptix_prime.1.dylib

Ok it's still crashing in optix_prime.

Do you have any of the Optimizations turn on under the Render options?

And do you have optimization set for speed or memory?  See attached screenshot

Gee I thought we had managed to turn off the OpitiX Prime Acceleration.  It's actually still not checked in, even after the program crashed a few times.  Is there another page where I can disable it?

I'm attaching a screenshot of the Optimizations page, but from what I can see it looks like the image you included, set to speed not memory.

Hope this is helpful, and thanks for all your patience and time!

Try setting it to memory just in case, and I really don't know if Optix can be used even if its turned off (only nVidia folks will know, hopefully).

    Hi.

I would really like to try out some freebies (3rd party content) but I don't know how to do a manual installation.  I tried to do this a few years ago, but messed things up so bad that I had to get a new hard drive before I could get Daz Studio running again.  I think it was because I used instructions that were meant for Windows; something screwy about the "merge" function, I think?

Anyway, do you know the procedure? As you can imagine, I'm pretty nervous about this and could use some expert guidance. I'm running OS X El Capitan, 10.11.3

    Thanks, K

    Hi, Totte.

Thank you for the link to Rendoinstall. It looks very interesring, but I'm afraid to say it is way too advanced for me. 90% of the directions are gobbledygook to me=)

I've looked all over for a simple, step-by-step explanation for doing a manual install on a Mac (for DazStudio), but no luck. Do you know of anything like that?

    Thanks again, Kitty

That's because there isn't any. Understanding how to install 3rd party content requires at least a brief understanding of the old Poser file system, or DAZ studio file system. You can try to read the article in the free DS Craetive Magazine I wrote a while back.

    Hi Totte,

We tried setting Opimizaiton parameters to memory only and have some success but aren't able to lock the paramaters to memory only (see attached).  The system is still crashing most of the time when Iray rendering, and sometimes when working with Iray in the Viewport as well.  We will try again to render making double-sure that the Optimizaiton parameters are set to memory.  Would we be more practical if we used your tried and true solution with the 6GB GTX-780? (We couldn't find a NVIDIA driver for that card for the MAC OSX though).  I would rather not downsize to a 6 GB card when the 8 GB might work. :-)

Any and all thoughts you might have would be so welcome!  We've also put our case to DAZ 3D support via a Help Ticket wilth Mike thinking that not all the M4000 8GB's and the Mac Pro's 32 GB's are being utilized.

    Thanks again ~

    Mike and Paul

Oh, well. No freebies for me. Sigh.

But thank you for the information.

I use the standard nVidia WebDriver. Only issue, no startup screen, but nothing I suffer from.

Thanks Totte.  We are using a more recent driver for the Quadro 4000 for Mac and applying that to our Quadro M4000.  It's a recent release.  We had optomization set on memory, which seemed to help, and since the update driver was downloaded, tried it again on speed, and so far the rendering is quick . . . keeping our fingers crossed that our luck will hold!  Thanks again.

PS - Would you know of any tutors for DAZ Studio in the NY Westchester area that I could engage to help me learn the program?  I've been taking the tutorials and watching the videos but there's still so much I don't know and hiring a tutor would probably speed up the process.  Thanks so much for any leads!

  • TotteTotte Posts: 13,979

    Hello,

Glad to hear drivers did the trick (they usally do). And sorry, no idea who is in that part of the world that can tutor. (I'm far to far away).

Thanks very much to this forum, and especially to Totte for getting me going with my setup!!!!

I came across something that would be helpful to me, software developed by a Daz wizard named Jaderail.  It's called Free Golden Rules Camera Propand is useful for helping to properly layout charecters and backgrounds.  I'm unsure of whether the version 1.5 which I found online is the latest one out, or whether it can even be installed on a Mac.  I know there were some beta testers as well.  If not Mac-compatable, is there anything comparable to it available for Mac-Users?

It's a zip file of libraries, not on the Daz installer.  (There is another program for Bryce users, which is on the Daz Installer page.)

Thanks much if anyone knows about this!

    Hello Paul,

it should work. Jaderail is sadly no longer among us, he passed about a year and a half and he is surely missed, but his ghost still watches the forums, I am sure.

To install things from a zip, I might suggest the little RendoIstall program I wrote for that. You finsd it here: http://4eyes.code66.se/?p=7775

    Cheers!

    / Totte

  • I've installed Studio 4.9 and downloaded purchases using Install Manager to my iMac. For some strange reason the character JoeBot does not show as an actor in the Smart content, even though he was "downloaded and installed" with the other items. His mat files show, but he doesn't. I checked to make sure he was in the runtime where the others were, tried uninstalling and reinstalling him - but with no luck. I haven't checked yet to see if any others are missing. Any ideas, please?

  • TotteTotte Posts: 13,979

I don't have that so I can't say really, but as the character is a .cr2 (poser format), it might have to do with that. I hope some who has it might pop by and share some more info.
