It seems to hang when shutting down & you have to force quit
I uninstalled all of my Dazstudio products. Formatted my harddrive that I use for Daz. Now I reinstalled the basic files to start Daz Studio. Went to figures in my smart Content and it shows all the files I had in there. but with cones at the bottom. Nothing I have tried will allow me to delete the old database and go with the new one. Hopefully someone can help me.
1) If you have custom metadata/categories/tags, Content Library pane > Options Menu (list icon in upper right corner) > Content DB Maintenance > Export User Data
2) Content Library pane > Options Menu (list icon in upper right corner) > Content DB Maintenance > Reset Database.
3) Then Re-import Metadata to read in the new info (if you use Connect to install then logging in should repopulate the database).
Did that nothing happened. Used DIM to load Daz bought software. Postgre is not working and I'm not sure where the CMS is right now. Before it was in Library/Aplication Support/ cms changed it in the dirctory manager and can't get it to work.
Did you change it in both DIM and DS?
Other than having to force quit, does it work in Catalina, OS 10.15.7?
Tomorrow, Apple's Big Sur OS is supposed to go public. Has anyone been using a beta, and does DAZ Studio run in that?
A Big Sur BIG Question I have involves installing the OS. It appears that the system OS is on the Mac HD portion of the drive, while your data is on the Mac HD-Data portion of your drive, at lease in Catalina. So, I'm wondering: is it possible to erase the HD portion and install Big Sur right on a clean partition?
Yes I changed both.
@Grafx Studio: You changed both of what? The System OS portion of the Mac HD? Did you erase it and then install a beta of Big Sur?
And did you erase the Data portion also?
No I changed both the Dim and Daz Studio to see the CMS at Library/ Application Support/cms
Is there a way to check which database to use in the cms. I've set it at Library/ Application Support/cms and I can't get postgre to work. It was looking at originally Application/ Daz3d/ContentCluster. Neither one will allow Postgre to work.
This morning I uninstalled Daz Studio 4.14 and then loaded in 4.12 and it logged in. Then updated to 4.14 and it worked
I'm not sure if its me or the the latest version of daz but cpu iRay rendering seems slower than 4.12
How about working in Big Sur? Does it work in the latest Mac OS?
Haven't updated to Big Sur yet, so unsure about that
@Platnumk: OK, thanks for the info.
Btw, what about this Filament and Filament Viewport that DAZ is now introducing. I watched the tutorial videos. It almost looked like you could option to chose it without buying anything more, but now there are numerous products being offered, such as this one: https://www.daz3d.com/sf-beautiful-skin-filament
Would be nice if Filament worked on the Mac but at this time its Windows only
Oh! It didn't even say that in the tutorials I watched. (At least, I didn't hear it.) Hmmm. Well, I think what we'd really like is Metal in DS. Filament, anyway, doesn't have all of the features that iRay has.
According to the Filament GitHub repository, Filament is up to date and works properly on MacOS.
If Daz is having issues implementing it in Studio, that's one thing, but the technology is available, and works.
I updated to Big Sur . DS 4.14 crashes on open as does the DIM. The DIM installer also crashes. Ticket submitted.
What about Big Sur and 4.12?
I agree. The leading edge is the cutting edge, some say. Unfotunately, the cutyting edge is often the bleeding edge. Rather than bleed, it's probably better to wait.
I read from an artist, creator, seller here on the DAZ site that DAZ is saying that DS does not run in Big Sur.
OK, so is this the case: Is cpu iRay rendering slower in 4.14 than it is in 4.12? I really do appreciate that cpu iRay rendering is faster in 4.12 than it was in 4.11, so I would not want to "update" if it meant that I'd go back to slower cpu iRay rendering. That wouldn't sound like much of an update.
It states in the release notes for 4.14 under Known Issues that it doesn't work in MacOS 11 Big Sur
There are multiple problems with 4.14, iRay CPU Rendering seems a little sluggish at times, It doesn't shut down if you select quit from the menu or by closing the window (you have to right click on the app icon & select quit from there)
DS do not work in Big Sur, because of it's use of libstdc++, a system library which was deprecated back in 2016 and now removed from the OS. Well, it took DAZ almost a half year to change delimiter in the "file open" panel template, so how lohg it will take them to change dependence on vanished system library? Pity, but it looks like DS silently becomes a "windows only" program.
Well at least Postgre worked. I have a problem with the CMS database. I reset the database and then reimport the metadata to it and under Smart tab is my files but no actual photos. When I click on one nothing happens. The photos are empty picture frames with a yeild sign in the corner. It doesn't matter how many times I reset the database and reimport it always the same. I have a Mac Pro it has a 3TB dedicated HD to my Daz files. The Application is on my boot drive. It was working properly albeit slow so I cleaned the drive and tried to reinstall. I've had nothing but problems since
To fix my content database I had to do the following -
1. Boot into Safe Mode, Uninstall ProstgreSQL (would only remove in safe mode), Delete the PostgreSQL Folder, Delete the CMS Folder
2. Boot back into the normal MacOS Desktop
3. Install PostgreSQL via DIM
4. Reboot
5. Start DAZ & Re-Import MetaData
6. Login to my account within DAZ & Allow it to update the MataData from the DAZ Servers
@Platnumk: Wow! And all this is because of 4.14, and after installing 4.14? Well, I think I'd better wait. Probably DAZ needs to make some changes to the Macintosh version of this release.
