At this time there is no Plug-In for Octane for MacOS but there is a standalone version that is current availavle for free https://home.otoy.com/octane-x-pr1/

Please Note that you will need an iMac Pro or a Mac Pro to use Octane X as it only supports a small number of GPUs

  • Just to be clear, since I'm not seeing filament as one of the options in the viewport right now, Filament Render is not compatible with Mac OS yet?

And if not, can someone from Daz update the website to reflect that anywhere?? I'm happy I haven't purchased any filament items because I wanted to test its limits with what I have first.

It's in the release notes for 4.14 that Filament is currently Windows Only (Even tho Filament its self works on both Windows & MacOS,  Daz has only intergrated the windows version)

Ah ok, I was wondering where this info was, because when I go to the filament page on the daz store and search either "Mac" or "Windows" nothing comes up. Wish they were more clear here! I'm not even sure how to find the release notes for any versions of Daz Studio lol. Hope it gets implemented in the Mac version soon as it seems very useful to Mac users especially since we don't have Cuda support for iray etc!

Ok thanks! Found it, I think... I find the website quite confusing!

    https://home.otoy.com/render/octane-render/demo/#demo

I'm not going to try it out now. Too much hassle and I don't have that much time and patience. Perhaps at some later date... if there's a plug-in for DAZ and if it's free I'll definitely give it a shot.

It doesn't render on my iMac (2019 versiom) as it doesn't have a compatible gfx card which is a AMD Radeon Pro 570X 4gb.  As I mentioned earlier it seems it only works on an iMac Pro or A Mac Pro which makes less than useles to the hobbiest

But that first site said Mac Pro 2019 or later. I have a Mac Pro, but it's the late 2013 edition. So, does that mean it won't work on my Mac Pro?

Yeah, in both the case of Filament and Octane, the technology is there, and it works, but Daz hasn't implemented it in Studio. In the case of Filament, the release notes for Studio would indicate that it's an SDK issue, not a technology issue.

This raises some questions about SDK versioning and technology debts, but I trust that they'll work it out soon enough.

  • Hey all,

Quick query. How well is Daz 4.14 running mac? Is it ok or is it worth waiting a while? (I'm still running catalina, I've no intention of upgrading to big sur yet as I know it breaks daz. Had to do the same for catalina when that released).

    Cheers

The only problem I have come accros is a shut down issue,  if you try the close the app via the menu or by closing the window it just hangs,  the way around this is to right click on the app icon and select quit from there.

Assuming it is hanging without CPU acxtivity, try going to Window>Panes(Tabs)>Aux Viewport, then in the pane's option menu (the lined button in the top corner or right-click the tab)  disable the IPR Toolbar. DS should then close cleanly, even with the Aux Viewport hidden.

  • Okie dokie, thanks for the info :)

That seems to be the issue - if the pane iss et to have the toolbar but doesn't actually get drawn then there's a loose end left hanging. This is fixed properly in a forthcoming build, but for now turning the toolbar off works.

Doesn't seem to have worked for me. Had to Force Quit, yet again. But Richard said it's fixed in a future build, so I'm content to deal with it for a bit.

Rob sasy  he has posted a simple script in https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/449316/daz-studio-4-14-pro-general-release/p1#known_issues that will take care of it.

Is the iRay render in 4.14, using Catalina 10.15.7, as fast as it is in DS 4.12.1.118? Also, does iRay look as fine in 4.14 as it does in DS 4.12.1.118?

I've noticed some improvement in speed & quality

So, 4.14 is working on Catalina, with equal or better IRAY (but without Filament or Octane)?

Yep,  Tho Filament does work on MacOS its just daz hasn't add it as of yet (it's something to do with the SDK),  There is also a version of Octane that works on the Mac but only if you have one of the supported gfx cards (it seems you need a Mac Pro or an iMac Pro) but there is no Daz plug-in for it.

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,170

So, overall then, do you think it's worth going up to 4.14 in Catalina (10.15.7), for the improvement in quality of iRay rendering?

  • Has anyone else noticed after buying products the, "download with daz install manager" link doesn't work. It would usually open install manager for me but now it just takes me to the page to actually download install manager. No massive deal, as I just open install manager manually and the products are there ready to download. But wondering if this is happening to anyone else? :)

It's probably lost the file association for daz3ddim files - that's how the system works, the button opens a file of that type and those should be set to automatically launch DIM as the default handler for the file type. You may need to set the link in your browser's options.

It was working the last time I purchased something. Seems I'm not the only one, somebody brought it up over on the install manager forum section. Either way no biggie. As I said, the files are ready to dl when I open install manager manually :)

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,170

It's happened to me, also. I started DIM up myself.

  • My summary above is off - it isn't a particular file type but rather a protocol (the link, if you hover over it, will be daz3dim://soemthing rather than something.daz3dim. But the essential idea remains - when you install DIM it lays claim to that protocol, so when you click the link your browser should pass it on (or possibly ask if you want to use the default action or some other action). It may be that some kind of system tool or security software has broken the association of the daz3dim protocol with DIM.

I see no reason not to update to 4.14 (tho I would keep a backup 4.12 just in case),  So far I have been impressed with the results i've been getting with 4.14

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,170

@Platnumk:  OK, Thanks for you response. About keeping backups, I see some files in the Install Manager, and also some ManifestFiles. I'm guessing (I'm so poor at this) that I should keep the Install Manger Files and that I should, of those, keep the GoZ and the DAZStudio412Mac files. Do I need to keep both the dsx and the zip from the InstallManager/Downloads folder? Can I disregard those in the ManifestFiles Folder?

Then, if I do decide I want to go back to 4.12.1.118, I think I start up the DIM, select Work Offline, and then what? Can I drag the files from my Desktop into the Ready to Install window? Or, how would I accomplish this?

Sorry to be so dense. I've never tried reverting to an earlier version of DAZStudio before (and hope I don't have to if I do go up to 4.14), but it's probably good to learn how to do this.

The ManifestFiles folder is where DIM records what it installed and where.

For backing up previous versions you want the zips from the Downloads folder  that have "Mac64bit" in the name.

  • inquireinquire Posts: 2,170

OK, thanks, Fixmypcmike: That's part of the answer for me. Then, what do I do with those zips? Do I drag them into the Ready to Install window of a Work Offline DIM?
