If it was the DIM settings wouldn't EVERYTHING install one way -OR- the other? Instead of a mixed bag? The fact that I'm getting mixed installations makes me wonder if this isn't something to do with individual products.

No, not really. You do need to use DIM to install the application and I believe the PostgreSQL CMS files as well. When you installed DAZ Studio, you also probalby installed the "Starter essentials" package which is why your Genesis figures work. If you didn't tell DIM not to use DAZ Connect, my guess is that eveything else has been installed using it, which is why I've been asking you to check what's in your DAZ Connect library.

It looks like Richard and Platnumk are offering better help than I 'm capable of, so I suspect you'll have this all sorted shortly.

    Good luck!

Well I had to bite the bullet today. Apple got pushy and insisted I upgrade my MacBook Pro M1 finally to Ventura 13.1. My personal preferences seem to be there. Daz Studio seems to be there intact. The files are there and can be loaded into the screen.

DIM, well, I can log in, but initially is seems to go on forever to sync with my files. I rebooted and opened up again and just now, started the process again. Have to leave soon and will let it go and see if anything resolves while I am gone.

Finder could get to Thumbnails, but not open Downloads. I have been saving my zip files, so I didn't expect this to be fast. This file also has my renders and they are there.

Disk Utility has not identified an issue with that external drive.

After updating MacOS your system will be sluggish for a few hours while Sportlight Re-Index's the main drive (This is normal behavour) & some tasks may take longer than normal to complete doring this time.

It had alternated between seeing the two external harddrives that house DIM and My Daz 3D Content. I woke up early to see if I can make headway with it. Just logged in and it sees the DIM disc but not the Content. Going to take it back to the Win 10 and check it out. Again.

I did add 'DzInstallHelper' to App Management last night under the assumption it might need to update files. Not sure if that is correct or not.

So while the Win 10 'Dragon' recovers the 'Demon's' My Daz 3D Library, I have Demon, reading it's drive's DIM file to see if it will finally come up. Thankfully it is not my full library but less than half of what I own.

Win 10 recovered 'Demon's My Daz3D Content' and on the MacBook Pro the DIM's files have appeared! Thanks @Platnumk for your advice and encouragement.

Now trying to see if DIM will open.

DIM finally came back, but then blinked and said I needed to load basic files (some not all) and I went what the hell, go for it. Hit start and it froze. Now the hard drive with D|S is unmounted - again. Will try to recover on the Win 10 desktop after a render is done. Sigh. I will keep after this.

If you are installing the files from a harddrive that make sure you run DIM in Offline mode otherwise DIM will want you to download & install files you already have installed

I have tried to start DIM twice in Offline mode, managed to do it once, but it became unresponsive after that. Is that expected? I also got to recover the drive with 'My DAZ3D Content' again. After that, and reading some forum comments about external hard drives, I decided to give up on the 'LaCie' and bought a 8TB Seagate Expansion Drive for either a PC or Mac at MicroCenter this afternoon. I also removed "DzInstallHelper' from App Management" since I wasn't sure if that was causing issues.

Now, before I do anything absolutely disasterous, is there anyway I can save my save my DIM files from the hard drive DIM stores on in case I need to uninstall DIM and reinstall it? Would changing the name of the drive or unplugging it be sufficient?

And would uninstalling DIM work? I have tried to open DIM one more time, offline but the swirly is going.

Advice appreciated, just remember, really stupid person here.

Depending on how big your library is DIM can take a few mins to gather all its infomation.  And yes you can save the install files in case you need them later

  • memcneil70memcneil70 Posts: 4,106

Thanks, I finished copying the DIM files late yesterday onto a safe drive that will not be where they will be stored finally. Because I had only wanted a small library on the MBP, I had about roughly 9,000 items on it. I did not instal very few of the Generation 3 or 4 items I own, except some wardrobe, environments, props, etc. My full DAZ library is about 20,847 before I get to other items I bought elsewhere and free items, but I haven't even started to load those on the MBP, or even start to reload on my other systems.

Well I uninstalled DIM, then download a fresh copy and after finding where to give it permission to install (hides well in Ventura) it installed. But when I opened DIM, again more swirlleys. I went off to exercise came back, still swirlling. Killed that. Tried again, made sure off-line, swirly. Killed. This time I copied the report log onto a text file. I am attaching it in case anyone can see what may be causing me issues.

I know I have done something (or not done something I need to), just don't know what, to get it to work.

Great, it won't let me attach the file. I tried changing it from 'rich text' to 'text' but still can't attach. I am going to contact Customer Service.

  • Attachments are a problem, try using an external host and post a link.

Well the service order is submitted. I will just wait until next week. Thank you all.

Not sure if you have done this or not but have you given both DIM & DAZ full disk access

  • I'm trying to get started but I can't run DIM. Every attempt to run DIM has resulted in a message saying the application "cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified. macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware." Is there a way around this? I'm interested in the product but I'm not setting up a Windows workstation just for it.

Yes, first thing I made sure of. Some of it carried over, one section I had to find, not sure if I did it correct. See screen shots if I can attach today. I also had a crash/freeze from DAZ Studio 4.21.0.5 when I tried to edit the file path to the new drive where my files are. Had no problems with the Beta, which I was able to use okay yesterday. But without DIM, I can't update files or download new ones. (Not heard from Customer Service, but they just had Monday and probably very busy.)

When I installed DIM Apple sent me this message. Look on System Settings>Privacy & Security at the bottom and see if there is a pop-up asking if you will allow this to install. Or something like that. I have the option to allow applications to download from 'App Store and identifed developers' and 'ask for New Accessories'. This is part of what is involved with my issue I believe. It used to be easier.

You can try temporarily disabling Gatekeeper and see if that makes a difference -

    How to disable Gatekeeper

    1. Open a new terminal window

    2. enter the following   sudo spctl --master-disable

This will give you the old option of "Anywhere"

To Re-Enable Gatekeeper enter the following into the termainal

    sudo spctl --master-enable

  • Does anyone know how to get in touch with tech suppoirt? Can't find a telephone number anywhere and they do not repond to requests through the support email. Its as if they dont exist!

Tickets are the contact method. Did you get the auto-acknowledgement email? Depending on the nature of the problem a response beyond that can take a while.

I'm a huge fan of maxing out as much of the spec's as a budget allows (RAM and storage); at the very least, I'd update the 512 GB SSD to a terabyte, more if possible. Other machines have shown some drive speed loss with a 512 GB SSD. It might not hold true for your machine, but I think over time you'll appreciate a larger internal drive. Of course, I'd recommending researching it before blindly taking my advice.

A 1TB drive is only 200 more dollars so it would be worth it. Thanks for the advice!!

  • I cannot see anything in the studio but options. I cannot see anything else. Here is a screenshot to better explain:

Just a note that I had an update for Mac OS Ventura 13.2.1 that is to patch security issues. I ran it and had no issues afterwards with DAZ Studio (except the existing release version not letting me update the paths for the main library. Beta works great. I just had to add all my scripts/favorites back, that the initial issue had stripped out.)

An artist at another site, making a model for DAZ Studio, wrote about a question I had:

I mention using Daz Studio 4.20.1.19 or higher because that will allow you to use Daz Studio's new iray fibers for the SBH hair. This iray fiber system allows the the hair to render very fast compared to geometry/fiber mesh.

You can still use the hair in this product without 4.20.1.19, but you have to convert the hair to geometry first. To do that, you would select all the hairs in the Scene tab and then, under the Parameters tab, change 'Render Tessellation Sides' from a value of 1 to a value of 3. To get the hair to show up in the NVIDIA iray preview renderer, you also have to turn view PR hairs to 'ON'.

So if using an older version of Daz Studio, everything should still work, but you just might need to tweak the hair settings on the Parameters tab and it might take more resources to render.

Now, I'm using DS 4.21.0.5. Does this "this iray fiber system allowing the the hair to render very fast compared to geometry/fiber mesh" happen automatically in the Mac version of DS 4.21.0.5? Or, is there something I would have to do in order to get this faster rendering to happen?

Set Segments to 0 in the Parameters pane for the hair, I think.
