Kathyrn is gone, sadly, and often thought of-  but Rob isn't gone, he's still struggling with medical issues. Let's not forget about UnderConstruction. His thread is here and the first post has the GoFundMe page. If everyone donated any amount ($5 or less)  who surfs this thread, we could make a huge difference. He required open heart surgery last month, according to the latest update. This man has a wife and two kids, and trying to make it as a PA/artist, and I really think it would be a huge help to keep his spirits up if the number of donations would start up again. They've all but dwindled away as time passes. Imagine being told by the doctor to eliminate stress, then having to have an open heart surgery and paying for THAT. Let's not forget this man.

Was Kathryn the PA DraagoonStorm in the DAZ Store? That is very sad, whatever age.

No kathryn wasn't a PA, she was an author who used Daz to make her book covers.  And she was a very good author.  I am a rather rabid reader and I would highly recommend her books she was very good....

    OK, thanks.

@Barbult - I adore your dog across the shoulder render.  Now I might get the small dog add on!

It's kind of special to me. When I was growing up, we had a small dog (not a dachshund). My sister and I would take it for a long walk. It got so pooped we'd have to carry it home.  We didn't throw it over our shoulders, but still, this image is nostalgic for me, just for the sentiment of it.

    Great render, I agree.

On the subject of dogs and long walks: (many years ago) my husband used to walk a pair of Afghan Hounds for an old lady who couldn't walk far any more. First time, she said to make sure they got a really long walk to keep them fit. So he took them on a really long walk. He ended up having to carry them (one at a time - he's not Atlas!) all the way home - he revised the expression "very long" as "very long for an old lady" after that!

@melaniel   LOL! I think he'd be doing wonderful to JUST carry one at a time. Those dogs aren't stocky, but they're certainly long and not dainty in size!

  • MelanieLMelanieL Posts: 7,386

Yes, I think he got the most exercise that day, but he was pretty fit back then (in his twenties). More recently he used to carry my aunt's King Charles Spaniel on family outings, but that was comparatively easy.

Ours was a toy poodle. We could easily carry him in one hand! His name was Treasure.

Cute! I like small dogs myself

Treasure's nickname would have to be Delighful or Adorable!

TIP: Free converter for abr files- use Photoshop Brushes in other applications

I use Corel Photo Paint for most of my postwork, and I often see questions on using Photoshop brushes in other applications- so thought I'd share this tutorial with you on a free abr viewer (which is what the brushes are, abr's.)  From another site, here is their summary. That tutorial is okay for installing the abr viewer, but crappy for explaining the step by step. Use the summary below.

Edit: Okay, I'm doing it now.  You MUST be sure you have abr's. Second, when you click export, they export as PNGs.

Using abrViewer  Go to https://sourceforge.net/projects/abrviewer/ and install.
Open brushsets from an abr file and export as brushsets and then export thumbnails to a folder.
Open photopaint and import the png's that you want to use as a brush
    Go to mask tab-select all.
Edit: adding this step: be sure you have Brush selected. (This is Corel Photo Paint, assuming it's the same for all programs.)
Open your brush settings tab and under Nib Properties>Right Click>Nib Options>Create From Contents Of Mask
Popup: to set the mask size. Ron's brushes are about 550px
It will save in your brush list as a new one.
Edit: In Corel Photopaint, click the inverted triangle to open the flyout (triangle is to the right of the word Stroke Style) and Save Brush.
The brush is now available in your dropdown menu (The Brush property menu)

I just got the giggles and my husband looked over at me like, "What are you doing NOW?"  I'm working my way through the steps, above, and when the program exported as a png I wondered if that was what it was supposed to do. (So I looked that up elsewhere.) Then I thought, "What now?" and the thought that made me laugh as I was looking at all the open tabs across the top of my screen to find my thread post was, "Okay, I've got to find me.  I need to help myself!"

Did anyone get the new mermaid?

  • dreamfarmerdreamfarmer Posts: 2,128

I want to... I just keep wondering if I should wait until it goes to the backlist. But I haven’t spent much this month on Daz either....

I know how much I've used all the previous mermaids, so she goes straight to the wishlist.

I am not buying anything at the moment, much as I really really want this one, I am going to have to wishlist as well.  Was just curious what everyone thought.  She looks beautiful.  And Darwins Mishaps did the characters so you know she is beautifully done.

I’m getting the mermaid hair and perhaps the environment. I’ll get the tail etc if a merman (or a tail that fits g8m)is also released. Crossing my fingers.

I was going to pass her up until I saw Darwin did the character and the addons. Can't afford her now, so into the wishlist they went, along with the Undersea environment. I was checking the Whats Hots banners and the only thing I saw was the environment. but they must have updated it right after, because following a refresh, I'm seeing a lot of products from today, including the mermaid.

I should think it wouldn't be a whole lot more work for the PAs to fit the geografts to a male, @Worlds_Edge, and as Darwin is one of the PAs on the project, we can beg him to talk to Arki about a male version. I assume getting a "yes" answer will depend on how well the female version sells.

If nothing else, a free G8M fit over at ShareCG or Deviant Art would be nice, and probably up the sales of the mermaid. I know I'd be more willing to buy if such a fit were available. I'm drooling just thinking of Darwin's boys as mermen…

Yeah, @l'adair, I would really love a mertail for g8m, it doesn't have to be as fancy.  I'll think on getting the figure as sales might help score a g8m version too.  I have the prior generations mermaid but my initial thought was why get yet another version if there won't be a male version to match.  Christian character as a merman would rock for sure!

  • dreamfarmerdreamfarmer Posts: 2,128

I'm about to pick her up. Oddly, this is one specialized figure where I don't feel any need for an official G8M version. If I do any storytelling I'm fine with either the idea that males and females _both_ resemble human females, or that males have legs while females have tails in highly specialized dimorphic evolution.

The most use I ever got out of the M4/V4 mertails was that Air Giant set Rawn did for M4, where one of the options turned the mertail into a "smoke" tail/lower body for a genie type character. The mer stuff is always cool, I just don't end up making art that requires it that often.

  • Worlds_EdgeWorlds_Edge Posts: 2,152

Oooh smoke tail to turn it into a genie - what a fab idea!

Kathryn died of a lung embolism.  Very sudden and very unexpected.  It still makes me very sad....

Wow, how sad. She was sick during the video, I wonder if that originally caused it?

So @Barbult, you did it. You made me buy the dog. If only I hadn't seen your great renders... I just hope they have a cat soon and give banner discounts for buying the dog. And now I'm wracking my brain for a creative concept involving dogs...

I hope they make the Deck the Halls Bundle 1 the next bundle they do on the PC+ freebies. I don't understand why they just don't price it at the cost of all the PC+ items contained in the bundle.

The DIM update is great.  The 32 bit version was replaced with a 64 bit and my download speed was blazing fast!  Well, at least that is what I'm attributing the dl speed to.

My d/l speeds were about double what they have been. Odd though. DIM updated to 64 bit on this machine, but only updated the 32 bit version on the beast. (Odd, but not a big issue as the beast is only online when I need to run an update, or transfer files between the two computers.)

Does anyone uunderstand  today's sale? I posted my confusion about it here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/261396/don-t-understand-today-s-sale. I really need coffee, maybe it will make sense to me later, but right now I don't get it...

  • NovicaNovica Posts: 23,887

@wonderland   Sorry, was gone/ busy all day, and I saw Ati answered your question earlier. They really didn't make that very clear, did they?

The past several days the sales have been broken all over the place, I didn't even bother shopping as sales were on, off, wrong discounts, you name it. And as mentioned on the sale thread, giving discounts on old stuff, or free Victorias doesn't do anything for people who own a lot. Wish they would do the increased discounts if we buy more than one of the new releases of that day.
