Wish they would do the increased discounts if we buy more than one of the new releases of that day.

Same here as I already have most of the Victoria stuff

Thank you @Barbult for convincing me to get the dog through your great renders! Now I'm happy happy I got it. Although his owner won't be too happy when she gets home LOL.

Thanks! I was inspired by this month's PC contest theme!

Reminder- when you're shopping, remember that there's a difference between "a new release" and a new release from a particular sale. PC+ items trigger discounts!

I've been busy since 7:30pm last night (going on 9:20am) so getting offline. Happy shopping!

Bad Doggie! laugh I like the stuffing coming out of the bear. yes

I'm glad you are happy with your purchase. There is a strange shadow in the image. Look at the shadow of the dog. It doesn't seem to fall naturally on the bed or wall. Is the bed and wall just a backdrop plane? I'm kind of puzzled.

(When you @ mention me, be sure to use barbult and not Barbult, or I won't get notified. I don't want to miss your posts!)

Pretty sure that's the result of a spotlight at about the dog's face level.

@barbult It is a full bedroom scene except the photo outside the window. I added a spotlight because the HDRI didn't pop enough and focus on the dog.  I wish there was a way to remove shadows. I tried lighting the lamp on the left with a warm point light but it did nothing for lighting really and I was hoping that would take away the shadow. I made the spotlight a bit warm so I was thinking one might imagine a lamp at the front door with a strong bulb out of frame. Is there a way to remove shadows??? If so, I couldn't find it...  I also did this pretty fast at about 3:AM and did postwork on my iPad in bed LOL. Now that I have a faster computer, I could try re-doing it, if you could give me tips on how to get rid of that shadow. Doing full scenes is new to me because on my CPU only computers, I would just render a character with a HDRI BG or add a BG later in Photoshop...

You can't turn off Iray shadows, but you can make the shadows softer by changing the spotlight geometry ftom point to disc and adjusting the disc size in the Parameters pane.

OK thanks. I gave up on discs because they would show up in the shot but I guess I had them too close. I REALLY wish there was a comprehensive 1000 plus page manual with screenshots. There are so many hidden parts of DS I still want to learn or understand. I can make pretty pinups, but I could do that in Poser. I want to learn all the bells & whistles and am still frustrated with DS...

If it's still an issue, the spotlight should have a parameter named "Render Emitter".  If you turn that off, the light itself will not be rendered, but you'll still get the effect.   Note that this only applies to photometric lights, and not emissive surfaces.

@Novica , I haven't decided yet if I should curse you devil or ask higher powers to rain blessings upon you.angel I hadn't rendered anything in almost half a year and also been mostly absent from the forums during that time. (I've still been shopping a bit here and there at DAZ though) Yesterday, you gave a nudge in the direction towards OOT's store, where I found the dark schoolgirl dress which, due to the way my brain works, got me thinking of a female version of Highlander (the original movie). Moments later, I had DAZ Studio dusted off and up and running and since this is all your fault Novica, I'll post the result here. wink

While the dress is a one piece item, different material zones makes it easy to remove unwanted parts of it. In this case, I "skimpified" it by removing the sleeves and chest. The "Highlander" herself is EJ Midori wearing Ayako Hair & Bow . Luckily for me, Khory's Scintillant Portrait Lights was as easy to use as it's always been.

Now it remains to be seen if I'll pick up the rendering habit again, or if it will take another half a year for the next scantily clad lady from my imaginations to make an appearance...

@wonderland   Take a look in my gallery at Janya, which is an example of the type of shadows you get with Ghost Lights. By making the panels bigger you get softer light as you can turn down the lighting but there's more of it spread across a surface area. I often use it for a softer shadow effect. There are two ghost lights above, coming from the window, but one also from above, from where you are looking (like you are the camera.) I reloaded the scene and remembered there is also a very dim one on the farside of her (the back wall, pointing towards her.)  Ghost Lights are SUPER easy.

I actually have ghost lights and totally forgot about them! I have so much stuff at this point, I have to just stop buying and one by one go through all my products and use them. I have used ghost lights before but not for a while though...

If I want to get a fill light on a subject to soften the shadows on the opposite side from the main light I use a 1 metre plane primitive and set it to Emissive and a cut out of .0001 and then set the intensity to 1 at cd/cm^2 then raise it or lower it and move the plane back and forward or even turn and tilt it until I get what I am pleased with.

On this one it is in front of the barman.

Click on image for full size.

And in this one it is in front and below left shining up onto the face. I used the ground .jpg for the colour so it looked like ground/water, from the pool in front of him, light reflection.

So did everyone get the $5 off DO's?  A couple suggestions from the sales thread, one is to sort your wishlist by DOs, the way I did it was to exclude PC items in main gallery, choose DO as the vendor, then sort from %.  I ended up with a CynderBlue gal, Jordina for Gen3/8.    Also, if you didn't pick up the dog and related items, they are 79% now instead of 72%, if you buy the five as mentioned in the sale, and i believe that is with using the $5 off. So might want to visit the sales thread for that tip. Another person mentioned Josh Crockett's catalog having good discounts when coupled with the $5 off.

Thanks for the reminder. I find these types of sales confusing because of the PC plus and Daz originals can frequently be the same thing.

    I'm vacilating between

    https://www.daz3d.com/royal-guardsman-for-michael-5

    and

    https://www.daz3d.com/the-police-car

I can tell the guardmen is modeled good enough for me but the police car looks sort of scant on details and is very old product. Is it any good? Or am I better off looking for a Crown Victoria model & retexturing it. There is a $30 one at Rendo I've been intending to buy that has many textures but I don't know how many details it has, only that's it's more detailed looking than the DAZ one. I know of the newer Polish police vehicle set but I'm looking for a Crown Victoria style cruiser.

@nonesuch00 I'm not very good about cars as I haven't rendered any the past year. Cars I bought were the Truform cars over at Rendo. There is a Heavy Police Car by that vendor and the doors and hood open. You'd have to check it for details to see if you like it. Item 125334

I found a post by Frank (moderator) interesting from the RIP men content thread. He said the forum members are only about 8% of the customer base.

Well thanks, I'll take a look. I should probably just but the expensive $30 police car.

I picked up the labrador with the $5 coupon (I got the dog and free V8 a few days ago) - I don't have a lot of spare credit at the mment, so the other breeds I'm waiting on a decent DO sale later in the year.

I have the police car. I use it for distance work. It’s an older longer boxy vehicle.

Thanks, I got the British Guard Uniform as I couldn't tell if the front grill on the police car was just a blurry texture instead of actually having the grill modeled.

Thanks, I'll buy with my coupon next month. That and the British Bus & Street Furniture. I'm being cheap but I want to create new scenes that need those.

If you happen to have Urban Sprawl 3, there's a police car prop. Doors and hood doesn't open but it looks good.

I remember the vendor, Valandar, posting about that car. He, (she?) said it was so old he'd thought of pulling it down, but people still buy it. Some others popped in to show and tell how they were using it. Even the vendor says it's not good enough for close up shots. Sorry I don't have link to that thread. It was a year or two ago.

And I have to laugh every time I see that 8% figure bandied about. You know those political polls we see about how many people want this or that, or how many approve of such-snd-such politician…? I don't know if it's still true, but those polls the media use to let us know how the rest of the city/state/country feel about one thing or another…? Pollsters did not survey 8% of the population. More like 1000 people, although it's been so long since I read that, I have no idea of the source. Of course, with the internet, and free unlimited long distance on so many carriers, that number has undoubtedly increased. But I think it would enlightening if any of those Pollsters used a full 8% for their surveys!
