Okay, moving on, here we have dForce Dark Guard HD Armor for Genesis 8 Male(s). This outfit is simply a cut above the rest, even without dforce, or specific love of impaled skull pauldrona , I've got to say that you can't go wrong wtih this outfit. It has a tremendous amount of attention to detail, fits Boyd perfectly and just looks menacing. Great from head to foot.  (I  did leave the hood off, because I wanted to see Boyd's face).

Dark Guard's pants are also quite nice. They are mostly covered and are designed to go with boots, but I like the waist, and details.

Socks in Krokz - I hope you don't mind if I chime in.

    • White shirt and socks blowout - Yup, pretty bad. Based on the fact that the skin, hair and props rendered fine in this light, I blame the clothing textures for the blowout. I had to add a lot of gray to the base color. Shirt fit is quite poor in a sitting pose, but I added animated dForce and it isn't too bad that way. Although the socks have diffuse, bump and normal maps, I see no knit texture details at all in the render. They have some bumpy texture, nothing like what I think of as a sock.
    • Shoes distortion - Yup, pretty bad, and my character's feet were hardly posed at all. I added a bunch of smoothing, which helped a little. Rarestone makes some nice ones for G8F. I wonder how they would do with autofit on G8M.
    • Shorts - hang a little funny and don't bend naturally in sitting pose, but they are not terrible. I didn't have crotch problems, though. I used Tristan 8, since it came in his bundle. They have pockets that are modeled in, not just painted on. That is a plus.

The artists are good vendors (IMO), but it doesn't seem representative of their normal quality of work. Maybe it is too many cooks spoiling the soup. I like the idea of the casual product at lot. I find it usable, but I probably won't be doing any closeups with this one. Based on the promos, I wouldn't have purchased it on its own.

This is my render after adding dForce to the shirt, using Mesh Grabber to fix some poke through, adding quite a bit of gray to the shirt, socks and shoes base color.

Nice render! I applaud your use of the fishing stuff, which I have not touched yet.

And thanks for chiming in. Yeah for me-I want more casual wear. I think I Can make a better zero pose for those crocks. the straps just got all funny for me. And crocks are not supposed to be too bendy.

Freebie Alert: Star Trek TNG uniform for G8M here: https://www.deviantart.com/amyaimei/art/Star-Trek-TNG-Uniform-for-Genesis-8-Male-777947971

Yes, Boyd is in command. It just suited him. Several uniform options are available, and there is a uniform for G8F. No shoes are included in this product, but any slip on will do.

I had crocs once after hearing for over a decade how great they are but I tossed them because they were so uncomfortable and prone to letting dirt & such into your crocs. The only good thing is the cheap plastic or whatever that is they are made of washes easy. Instead for around the house I have two pairs of soft fake suede house shoes from WalMart for $10 each that stay by each door. Outside, working in the yard I am forced to wear cleats to keep from slipping in wet grass on steep hill that is my yard but also with steel toes. I'm still very careful with the mower though, steel toes or not!

Here's another outfit from the new character bundle: dForce Backyard BBQ Outfit for Genesis 8 Male(s)  This is a set I will actually use and I like it. The apron and tennies are nice and realistic. The only problem I have was with the jeans/pants. They lacked detail and you can see in the hiney area on Boyd there is some odd distortion. I did dforce this outfit, but I didn't find this pose really benefited from it. Fortunately, this outfit looks good whether it is dforced or not. The texture expansion is nice. I am not fond of the white pants in the initial product. Wearing white to a barbecue seems a bad idea. But overall, the boys do their share of cooking and this seems to be something I can use.

^ I've never seen jeans without back pockets for a guy. The kind of glaring detail that makes me think very little care was put into making this item :/

I think pants are one of those things, that are neglected oftentimes for more interesting aspects of the clothing package. I also feel that shirt collars are a very strong problem area.

I picked up https://www.daz3d.com/frosty-and-the-matchstick-man-hd-for-genesis-8-males  over the holidays, and used the ice man, for a combat image. I really liked it. Now, granted, you will pay in render times for rendering him, since he's transparent and reflective, but it was fun. The Fembot is interesting. I'm trying to move the skin and parts to g8M

Grandad as a youngster with his former business partner Roderick Goodby. Together they formed the powerhouse robotics firm Goodby Robotics, which in the future is a household name. Both Roddy and Silas were best friends handling different aspects of the business. Silas, has never been interested in publicity, allowing Goodby to put his name on the company, and handle most of the PR allowing him to do what he likes best- create, although they are both equal partners.

Goodby and Silas work on medical application robots- Silas's focus is on companion animal bots, whereas, Goodby created a humanoid surgical android.

Silas creates and designs robotic dogs, so lifelike they can fool scanners. He creates additional bots, used for purposes, like cleaning, scrubbing, maintenance, and rescue. And these become the company's bread and butter. Goodby creates a surgical robot he names after a famous Greek Surgeon, but nicknames Archie.

Shortly before he turns 25, Silas is arrested for theft from Goodby Robotics, and the evidence- all recorded is so damning the trial is quite short.

After the trial, Goodby creates a military branch of Goodby electronics, using many of Silas's designs, over time he becomes a major player in the robotics industry, although he no longer appears to create any robots himself any longer for some reason.

Goodby is later abducted by the same government agency who takes Boyd's brother Tate.

If they're expecting him to provide robotics stuff, they will be very disappointed ... and unhappy shadowy government agencies are to be avoided, I'd expect.

How old were they when they went into business? And I'm guessing that Goodby framed Silas for embezzlement?

By the time they abduct Goodby, they are nearing completion of their project, and need Robotics experts. They are somewhat past the point of seamlessly abducting scientists as they have done for the past 25 years, since the project is in the final 2 years of implementation. So the fact that Goodby is high profile isn't as much as a problem when they wanted to keep things super super secret. Plus with Earth losing the war, it isn't uncommon for wealthy people to disappear to hidden bunkers.

They abduct Goodby while Owen is missing in the Forbidden Zone.   Grandad falls under suspicion, because a few years ago, Grandad went to the cops, to complain that Goodby isn't Goodby but a machine.  No one believes Grandpa....

But What happens to the real Goodby?

Still smarting after the rejection of his surgical android, Archie, Goodby is approached by the military who express interest in an infantry bot similar to Archie, except they want to use their own proprietary code.  Goodby makes Spartacus based on Archie, and attempts to integrate the code. But there are problems with the code and the chip set, and he is running short on time. Silas is the expert coder, and is still upset with him for accepting the project.

Eventually at the Christmas party, the boys reconcile. The contract is not worth their company, or the hard work they have put into it, and secretly Goodby has begun to have misgivings about Spartacus and the deal. Grandad too relents, and agrees to help Goodby with the code integration, but Goodby decides to shut Spartacus down, and return to the medical bot projects. He has a few drinks, waves off the offer of help and takes a cab to the lab, intending to shut down Spartacus.

If they're expecting him to provide robotics stuff, they will be very disappointed ... and unhappy shadowy government agencies are to be avoided, I'd expect.

The project has had a few security breaches throughout the years but Goodby is the most severe and Tate does not mess around. Goodby-bot is destroyed, and incinerated so no trace of its memories can be revealed to outsiders. Probably Tate extracts enough information to realize who has created the bots, and to target the correct person next time.

Tate is ruthless, but his sole goal, is to bring about the construction of Earth's defense grid. A few lives, even his own, mean nothing to achieve that goal. however, he will do nothing to harm people intentionally. Maintaining secrecy of the project is paramount.

Goodby's car with sufficient bio-material will be found in such a way where no one will ever suspect anything. His cleanup people will handle the details.

How old were they when they went into business?

Silas came to the states to get his masters at 17. he is a bit of a kid wonder. Roddy is 5 years older, and a genius as well, but nothing like Silas. Both boys were from the same orphanage in Ireland, and despite the age difference, are best friends. Roddy starts the business at 22.

I should state, that I am still thinking up this particular element of the back story, so I'm flexible about time and when things happen. It is possible this will go down when Owen and Boyd get back, and grandad will be a suspect...

Grandad does learn that Goodby is no longer his old friend later in his life. He spends time breaking into Goodby facilities looking for his brain.  One of the plot elements will be that Goodby's surgical bot Archie, will come to the lab to assist Dr. Goodby with his work, and find Goodby severely injured by Spartacus. Archie, who is a surgical bot, performs surgery to rescue Dr. Goodby's brain which he puts into cryo freeze. After he does this, Archie intends to notify the police, however he is stopped by Spartacus, and decommissioned himself. Spartacus then takes over as Goodby.

Spartacus cannot kill due to the programming restrictions placed on it so destroying Goodby's brain is not an option. So he keeps it in deep freeze indefinitely, while pursuing its military purpose.

It is possible that Grandad comes upon the remains of Archie, who is not fully destroyed at some future point, and learns that Goodby's brain was removed.  Grandad frequents junkyards and tech pawn shops for parts, so it is possible in its haste, Spartacus makes an error in fully decommissioning Archie.

Tate had Goodby kidnapped? And is now targeting his own grandfather for kidnapping? My, he changed over the years!

That will make for some terribly interesting family holidays afterward.

Does the government actually release the people it's kidnapped once the grid is active and working? Suddenly releasing all of the scientists and trusting them all to say nothing seems like it would be an issue.

On the other hand, once everything settles down, Goodby can get a zoomy younger body!

D.Master posted in their thread about saving as shape presets to make things work without the attachment (... I think) -- which actually makes much more sense than saving as material presets, since all of the details are morph sliders. I guess the attachment activates the sliders, and then they can be saved ... I have no clue.

By the by, I finally figured out what the attachment actually does. It provides fine skin details that are really only visible (a) if you're doing a portrait, and (b) with both Render SubD and View SubD on G8M set to at least SubD 3. (The attachment's own default SubD is level 4 for both.) You can use the morphs and presets on the character himself -- the morphs have been added to G8M by the product -- but you're just not going to get the fine details without the attachment. I've been testing on Gregory by Emrys, since I got him to be an older guy. Weirdly, with the attachment, some of the skin detail morphs get smoothed out a bit -- at a guess, because if you're doing the sort of portrait where the skin detail will be visible, the morphs may be too much.

Tate chooses people with the maximum skills so more people don't suffer. If he didn't do this, the handlers on earth would take more than was actually needed and that would be worse. Tate has been trained that he must choose the lesser of two evils, and impact the fewest people as possible. He doesn't have a choice. Personnel is handled on Earth I. Someone was going to be snatched regardless, so it might as well be the most qualified person.

The Government planned to shut down the Retro World and either strand people there, or take them back, and put them in a detention center until the information they know, is of no use to anyone.  However, some people are needed to run the grid back home so a couple like Tate with highest clearence will be returning..  It is likely that they would strand those without sufficient knowledge of the grid, and take those in the know back- in case they might be needed.

In general living in retro world is probably better than Earth. Think 60's Canada but with more racial harmony .  Many of the scientists,  if they have not gotten new bodies, are ready to retire by now.

I like retro world, and so I think Earth will keep a base there, but after this, it will be manned by volunteers.

Silas is Owen's grandfather. I think Boyd will have...Issues with how Tate has changed.

Goodby, and Grandfather will get new bodies.  Once Goodby drops charges against grandad, he will no longer be a felon, and can get a new younger body.  It is probably that since Goodby's company is quite prominent they will try to cover the whole matter up or even deny Goodby is even who he claims to be.

It wouldn't be the first time someone cloned a person, and then attempted to usurp an inheritence. Goodby for the most part, is a resilient young man, and will likely go into business with grandfather again- once he goes back to school. His skills are 35 years out of date and his wife had divorced him and remarried years ago.

On the subject of kitbashing and Women's clothing:

    https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-winter-frolic-for-genesis-8-females

Here we have Owen in the sweater gloves and boots from this outfit. The vest, which I was really hoping to get working, is deforming a bit in the pecs region.

I suspect if you don't want furry boots or gloves these items could be retextured.

I chose to use the pants from the X-fashion America outfit, instead of the included leggings.

For those who wanted mittens.... here you go!

So far, I love the boots, and the sweaters have a great texture and pattern.

Here's a test of the vest. The frogs of the jacket deformed too much in autofit. I did try changing the scene ID method, but it just made the vest adhere to his pecs.

And yes, look, you can recolor the fur of the mitts to make very nice oven mits... With suitable shaders of course.

I like this outfit. Nice texturing by the pa, and lots of useful bits you can  use for the men.

My question is, Why does it take so long to 'apply figures' to existing characters and to 'zero poses' I swear it used to be faster on my much slower machine.

Yes, it has become much much slower in 4.12. I don't know why.

  • I haven't upgraded to 4.12 due to an accident- but now I'm wondering if I should wait. Do you have to have 4.12 to use the new d force hairs? I really want to make a shaggy winter coat for my horses.

And that is a great new years render, Serene, i always like dipping into your thread to see what the guys are up to.

It seems to take forever to do certain things, even on my new fast computer. Zeroing a figure, applying a figure, applying poses, it seems to really strain at it. I think it is a morph thing. I tested it on my pose creation computer which only has genesis 8 male, and M8, and some short for him to wear, and it can zero a figure much faster, than my super powerful computer can. So I wonder if the lag is casued by character morphs, of which I have thousands.

I have 4.12, but wish I didn't. I do have  new computer with a new card, which seems to require the new version of studio to run. So I'm sort of trapped.

Dforce is a bit of disappointment for me. Aside from draping discarded clothing, I don't see much value in dforcing mens wear. There really isn't enough to it, to need the force of gravity, and the extra time involved is not worth the effort IMHO.  I haven't really tried the hair. I may have to. I do have a few dforce men's hairs. Maybe Boyd will have to get a haircut to see how I like it.

Thanks, things have been slow, as I have been completing other projects.
