daw..thanks. playing with shaders is fun. This thread is always full of the good stuff.

I want people to know I did not create the base texture from scratch, its a messed with image of one of the army ACU patterns.

Orestes Graphics is on Flash right now. you can pick up the awesome magic Effects Brushes Novica bought for me at 50% off:

I've also eyed the Nameless place. There is something cool about those cages, but I haven't bitten yet.

Flash sale says 50%, many things showing 70%. Haven't checked my email to see if this is a PC thing or not, just passing this along quickly. Keira is a gem, I use her often, she is $5.09 at 70% off, Ariadne is 50%, Azumi for Aiko is 70%. ETC!

EDIT: I don't have an email stating that I'm supposed to be getting 70%, so don't dwaddle on these!

Zoey skin is probably my favorite at the moment, not wild about the morph but the skin is pretty cool. Slight blemishes and the option of using a hair cap version is nice.

So here's the two Josies, my morphed version- and the Lisa texture. What a change. EXACT same lighting. (I did change the eye color, THAT isn't the lighting doing that, lol.) Still lusing Diva Hair, for those surfing in from the Josie link in The Commons.

Go to the main page of Raiya's store- add it from there. It is 70% off. From those individual product pages, they say 70% but in the cart go only 50%. From the gallery page, the price in the cart IS 70% off.

Edit: Someone has PM'd and said because they are Daz Originals, you get the 40% PC discount off on top of the 50% off. I gave up trying to figure out the math aspect long ago :)

wow. Yes, huge. I am not a fan of the stock skin at all for her. The new skin took years off her face, something a teen shouldn't have to have done.

Fair Corsair For Genesis 2 Females
    Sweet Flower Hair

    http://www.daz3d.com/fair-corsair-outfit-for-genesis-2-female-s
    http://www.daz3d.com/sweet-flower-hair

Chiara reminded me that she has been missing in action for my product reviews, and this outfit seems made just for her. This is out of the box, no tweaking, went on like a dream. I did not add the arm bands as I didn't like the one on the wrist. Then I experimented later and found you can submenu and go down to RIGHT FOREARM and turn that one off. It just doesn't match the outfit at all in my opinion (a turquoise blue!) It will leave the top armband. The promos don't do this justice- it's a cool outfit- click to enlarge and look at those textures. Yummy!

Sweet Flower Hair: I turned the opacity down to zero for the flower and the base. Left the whatever-it-is in the hair. I would postwork some of those strands going back over the shoulder as they seem too "strand-y." (aka, clumpy.)

EDIT: The morphs on this hair are EXCELLENT. Had no trouble moving the strands out, away from the neck, over the shoulder. No pokethrough! However, it did NOT load onto Josie, or onto Chiara (Genesis 2.) It appeared out in space, even with the gals selected in the Scene tab.

Waaaay ahead of you kiddo- remember the polygon editing tool?
    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/28138/P375/#451083

Just select the polygons and hide the heel, for example, if you are doing a front shot, the bottom of the heel just needs to be hidden. Side views, this won't work.

I would show you the finished render but I selected the wrong thing (should have done a surface, I don't know WHAT I did but I went to the second choice instead. That's what I get for not having my own tutorial in front of me!)

But this will show you what I did.And I'm NOT redoing. That was a lot of polygons to select, had to go all the way around the heel, and get the bottom. Just keep the polygon editor in mind to make things disappear. Depending on your camera angle, you might not have to even mess with fixing things, just make them go POOF (lower opacity to 0 on your new material zone you created.)

EDIT: Picture that yellow part as being gone- from a front view, it would line up with the flat bottom part of the sole and wouldn't extend below the shoe. Of course, if you have a ground plane, that would solve that anyway. So let's say if you have a SEMI front view.

Max Ray Trace is the number of Bounces between two mirrors, ie reflections to render, and also used for Glass items. If a glass has 4 sides, Ie Outer, inner then inner and Outer again you would set it to 4 to render the light passing, RAYS, through all the sides of the glass.

I had read explanations on that (either Chohole or Szark's, can't remember) but didn't know the default was 1. Why, if it deals with reflections, would the default be 1, and why did it make such a difference on a person, such as Barbults- particularly the tongue/mouth? Anyway, I have set the default back (to 1.)

EDIT: I added this post to the reference section. BTW, remember to check that (you can find it linked from our first post) as I added a lot in September and below is what I found interesting in the forums for October so far.

    Uber Surface http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/30047/
Difference in Shaders and Textures: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/29938/P30/#446519
    Spheres: Making Your Own http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/30278/#449053
    Layering: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/30626/
Rendering: Maxium Ray Trace Setting http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/28138/P435/#453757

I'm no "expert" on the subject by any means, but the reason why the default is set to one is because Ray-tracing doesn't only affect reflections,. It also affects shadows. Correct, there is a connection from the RAY of the lighting to The Shadowing produced by the light rays. It also effects ambient lighting and SSS and a few other shader settings such as velvet.

So, anyone make tier 1 or tier 2 this week? If so what reward are you thinking of? I'm curious about fantasy fighter, but will have to see.

I may pick up one of the starter bundles, some of the starters have a few hairs and outfits I don't own, but yes, finding out what will be offered in the new section is a good point! =-)

Thanks Standfast, I may take a peek later.

SereneNight- I went to Tier 2 last week, first week was none, this week I have 2 for Tier 2. I'm really irked that the Josie Bundle was ONE point- it should have been at least 3 or 4 points. I can understand not giving a point for every item in there that earned points if bought separately, because we got a deal on it- but FORTY FIVE DOLLARS should be more than ONE LOUSY POINT.

Totally agree. =-) But I think they should've given you a point for every item that was due a point. Fair is fair. It shouldn't matter whether it was bought in a bundle or separately. . =-)

I was thinking about your Josie renders. You should do a Josie with horse 2.

I realize today I have yet to do anything with the durn Horse 2. I was so stoked to get it, but without a usable bridle and saddle which is tough to pose it has ended up in my meh bin. I'll have to try it do something with him.

I was so hoping there would be an expansion with textures, a better mane and working gear at least by now..

Someone was working on the reins at one point, and I think a usable harness to hitch him up to some of the wagons. My entire thing with the horse is when you put a bit in his mouth, he should usually have one (or two wrinkles at the most) at the side of his mouth. Varies with the horse, albeit if he has a soft mouth or not (meaning responds well to a light touch.) I guess it's weird that I have a horse but not really into rendering them at the moment. I don't decorate with horse stuff either. I'm working on a humorous render, but am scrapping the lighting and starting all over. It's a combination of Village Courtyard, Enchanted Forest, Josie, Chiara. Whatcha working on?

I have a few things I'm trying to do.

One thing I want to do is a puzzle render. I think that would be a fun idea for newbies but also a fun challenge for myself to get my creative juices going.

You do a render. Include props and fun things. Make it a composition. A full picture.

Second render has 10 things altered.

    Alterations can include:

    color of item
    Position of item
    item missing or replaced
    expression of character changed.

you know, like you see in magazines where you are supposed to circle then ten different things that are different. Changes shouldn't be so subtle that they are indiscernible like lighting- but not utterly obvious like having a character missing. With second render there should be the puzzle 'key.' which lists the ten altered items. This should be fun to do, and I'm thinking maybe an autumn them.

Second thing I'm trying to figure out is Hexagon. I'm giving up for the moment. It keeps crashing and I just don't get it.

third thing... Is motion blur. I want to figure that out.

Final thing, a friend of mine has his company's one year anniversary on October 31. I want to do a couple of sci-fi characters sitting around a table with a cake and a banner celebrating the one year anniversary. I've started this one, but haven't gotten beyond the characters sitting at the table.

The horses are a hidious disappointment. not enough lip morphs, too many anthropomorphic poses, (hint, they dont talk with their mouth, they use body posture and ears. They aren't Mr Ed.. It is a rare occurance to see teeth bared, even when eating.

Forelock is "my pretty pony" and hard to deal with. There is no transmap for a clipped bridle path on the mane.

Eyes are bad. Only a few breeds have prominant colored sclera. Every horse I try is popeyed.

So much I would love to do with them.. but they are just too cliche in many places and too wrong in others.

Don't get me started on the tack, or the western hats that all need to burn in a fire.

I admit to being disappointed with the horse's usability. Took me over an hour to get a reaslistic riding pose that matched what novica showed as a proper western position. (And that is only from one side don't look at the legs from the other side please). It Shouldn't be that hard. Poses should be part of the package.

That clipped mane bit near the ears irks me.

I also wanted some poses to go with the bridle and gear. There is only so much you can do rendering people bareback. Trying to pose the reins... Is a nightmare. Would've liked a simple easypose rope and rein setup. At least I can show someone leading the horse.

I did try to do a river crossing scene with the characters leading the horses by the reins. (at least then I'd not have to show them riding 'em) It was full of fail... Couldn't get the reins to look properly. They looked strange, and like a handle. IDK. I gave up on that one.
