    Daz Studio + Flowscape = Great !

I use Daz Studio to prepare, texturize, export 3D .obj files to insert in Flowscape. For example the "Fantasy Book" on the Daz store is great with all the parameters on the pages.

I use Flowscape to make nice pictures as backdrops or textures. Here on this bed :

Attempted to make a pano from Flowscape into hdr that can provide illumination... and have not managed it.

    Has anyone else?

Unfortunately no. Although "Capture Panorama" in Flowscape is saving image as 8192 x 4096, it is saved as .jpg not .hdr.

Also tried with Ansel, and although it's saved as .exr it is completely black. PS exposure adjustment didn't help either.

must be a Unity thing as Unreal Engine 4  Ansel plugin on my cooked "games" works with HDR exr even on the crappy GTX 760 I am using because my 980ti carked it

    as I said earlier blush

I am no game maker so I suspect its the engine itself

I have some tricks to make a regular jpg skydome work in Iray, but at that point the lack of color depth tends to make the image look flat. Meh.

It's still cool, of course, but had been hoping for a good sky generator to use for hdri

  • I agree with you on that. Instead, it seems better at the generation of backdrops, which is slightly more limiting. Taking figures into it is mildly disappointing as the rendering is like stepping back in time in terms of quality, and posing impossible. However, on a positive side, it's possible to create your own backdrops, it is enjoyable to do, and the program costs less than a single Andrey Pestryakov scene, which means if you get one or two uses from it, it probably has paid for itself.

    Regards,

    Richard.

I have asked in different threads of Daz forums, but could not get any advice on how to add light to .JPG panoramas.

Wouldn't be great to have such a solution.

I need to explore it further but since Octane can use them I wonder if an Octane exr 360 render wouild work

I asked earlier in this thread too. No joy.

Now for a little FS 'render' with 2 figures:

  • Just remembered one thing. There can't be any spaces in the texture filenames otherwise a blank texture is assumed.

    Excellent image, Richard.

How did you manage to put 2 figures into FlowScape?

Does it mean that one could edit .mtl file and change such names, followed by changing the names of the textures stored on the disk?

Just went through the OBJ import twice and modified the horizontal and vertical position for each to make them touch the ground. The Mousso Reese figure took about 10 mins to import because of the Pascale Hair ( so many facets).

Many of the Mousso textures had spaces in the filenames, so they needed editing, as did the .MTL file to change it to the same filenames. Some of the HD details are different from the standard G8 figure (cornea and a second eye moisture) and needed additional transparency statements further down in the . MTL file from the others. However, have not sorted eyelash transparency properly yet. The trans map doesn't seem to work at all on the eyelashes.

    Regards,

    Richard.

Thanks for the description. I also have troubles with converting materials, especially for eyes and eyelashes.

To avoid long import times, I have switched to older figures, like Koshini 2 - https://www.daz3d.com/koshini

I have edited her cornea in Blender, because I could not find the proper place to put Tr 1 statement.

After exporting again from Blender as .OBJ, I got the following material for Cornea

    newmtl Cornea:1.007
    Ns 87.999993
    Ka 1.000000 1.000000 1.000000
    Kd 1.000000 1.000000 1.000000
    Ks 1.000000 1.000000 1.000000
    Ke 0.0 0.0 0.0
    Ni 1.450000
    d 0.000000
    illum 9

The original material was like that:

    newmtl Cornea:1
    Ns 88
    Ka 0 0 0
    Kd 1 1 1
    Ks 1 1 1
    d 0

Just in case, if someone wonders, how the new material of cornea looks in Blender, below is a screenshot.

The crucial part is a change of Blend Mode to Alpha Blend and Alpha 0.000.

Mystic Tower and Dinokonda from Daz Studio into FS. In fact I look at the Environements items I have to find ideas...

With the FS options a simple "nude" tower becomes something great in a specific environment. And we can add grass or others directly on the walls.

(I have used the Aperture effect to blur...)
