Be glad that the only thing that you have to worry about coming from the sea is hurricanes. Here's something I've just made for the PC+ "Myths and Legends" competition...

Click to embiggen, also available in my gallery.

A lot of kitbashing went into this: in particular, the sea monster is a very old Troll, with his arms hidden and replaced with multiple Widdershins tentacles. The whole beast is pulled together by applying one of Will Timmins' free alien shaders to his skin. I'm also pleased with the way I've made the hem of her dress look damp by using a mask to ramp up the translucency strength down there. PS. I've found dforce works really well with the Hellenic dress, if you apply a weight map so that only the bottom half is affected.

I also love the single tentacle coming up out of the water closest to her. You really did the kitbashing in a fabulous manner! Kudos!

@chris: really good expression on the girl... DAZ doesn't do all that well with extreme facial expressions IMO, but this works!

So your state decided to get in on the hurricane season? I take it that's from Imelda?
Glad Humberto went out to sea, Jerry will do likewise, and the other two are looking fairly wimpy five days out.

@chohole   So glad our side of the pond could "share" with you. Aren't we thoughtful?  Is it going to be a tropical storm when it gets over there?

Not even a hurricane but Houston area and East Texas are getting hammered with rain again. Hoping my brother-in-law's house stays dry this time around. It was rebuilt 5 feet off the ground after Harvey..

Yeah, I've been watching that- we moved from the Houston area in 2004, and Humble/Atascocita got 15" to 20" or more. And what gets me- this is unusual as the most active part of the season this year. They said the third week of September and October were going to be ultra busy. (Aka, the season was going to be "back loaded" due to the oscillation patterns and a few other things coming together perfectly.)

It's nice to see a male bundle, I did pick up Silas and the other males. Those banners with the additional percentages off are really helpful!

    5 feet - wow!

We did get hammered.  The news is stating 12 inches where I live, the bucket in my yard indicates more.  Still couldn't get out of the subdivison this morning - had to return home.  Some of my co-workers don't understand the situation.  The common comment was, "how lucky you are, you get to stay home."  Lucky is not how I would have described the last couple of days.  Nor particularly productive, either.  Fortunately, my house is pier/beam, a good two feet off the ground, and located on one of the highest elevations in the neighborhood.  For two days it looked like I live on a lake.

I've only ever been to Houston to get a work visa for my passport. It was big & flat was all I remember.

Hey, let's have some fun. Someone is closing on a house and going to be figuring out their color scheme and decor. Anyone know of a good app or paint store site that lets you test out colors?

So here's the question-  what do you like as a color scheme for a home?  It doesn't have to be what you currently have, mine isn't.

Walls: gray with a light bluish-gray accent wall
Decor:  Yellow, gray, white, and blue. I'm thinking yellow for the accent pillows, vases.

I like bold colours for my walls. My living space is painted azure, my bedroom oxblood. To offset this my floor and most of my furniture is wood or grey and I have very little bric-a-brac strewn about. Kinda going for a minimalist-but-bold vibe here.

I just added Duffy to my list of gals that I was rendering. You can go here for the outfit and hair too. Scroll way down on that post.

Three more to go. Doing Zo next.

And Zo has been added there also. The textures for the outfit are not listed with the outfit, I noted it back in the post.

Well I'd like my house to be painted ivory white with lots of old Provencal French Blue highlights (baseboards, chair runners, door & window frames, furniture) but unfortunately at only 1000 sq ft and 8 foot ceilings my house is much too small to pull that off. Plus a French Provencal home needs to look classy, something my house decidedly doesn't look.

Instead what my house is now: I opted for every room in the house to have the same satin ivory walls (It's actually called Woodlawn Green by Valspar though). with doors, baseboards, frames, and doors all painted the same color semi-gloss "The Perfect White" also by Valspar. The ceilings are all the same Valspar "Ceiling White" matte paint color. Apparently "Ceiling White" is some sort of agreed standard color for ceilings.

Those colors do make the house look bigger and cleaner though, although I have to wash the "Perfect White" kitchen cabinet doors and such frequently. I might still paint those baseboards and frames Old Provencal French Blue (aka here: aged and greyed Shaker Blue - it's a grey-blue that is more blue that grey but the grey is meant to tone done the brightness of the blue) ) in the future. Maybe even the doors & cabinets that Provencal Blue! I've been told the "Perfect White" is better though. I'll give the "Perfect White" some time so I can see if I like it better. It looks good, but only if you don't look a gift horse in the mouth sort of good because my house is worn and it shows if you look too close.

I've always liked lavender and orange as a combo. In a house as small as mine it's a big non-no unless it's just a bowl full of oranges and a vase full of lavender though. I'm trying to get my yard full of lavender and orange agastache, both of which smell so good.

Outside my house is 50 year old white vinyl clapboards with one sizeable corner yellow fieldstone (it's cut sandstone back from when it used to be cheap) accent. I would paint the white vinyl clapboards a pale slate grey blue that would be tonally no darker and probably lighter than the yellow fieldstone accent on my house. The outside doors and frames I would paint burnt orange or burnished gold or candy apple red. The cinder block base would be painted a deep grey green forest or olive green. I'm told I should stick with white for those too but but .. that's like 90% of the houses in the neighborhood are white vinyl clapboard houses....I want something that hides the white vinyl and trim has seen better days. The other folk with white vinyl siding could afford new white vinyl siding.

For your friend I know of no web sites that let you upload pictures of their house & change the color but Sherman-Williams.com does let you change the colors of house pictures they've uploaded, the so called 'Color Snap' tool. It's more useful than you think but not near as good as doing it for real with your own house in person with real paint.

Trying out paint colors and so forth for planning home improvements... Yeah, now that Apple has been making a push into AR--augmented reality--(&VR) with hardware & software on phones, if you have a relatively recent model iPhone, there's a number of apps that let you pick colors, create groups of coordinating colors, and some use the ARkit tools to offer the ability to pick colors and see your own walls painted in that color using the iPhone's camera and screen etc.  Some of the paint manufacturers have apps with varying features, the Sherwin-williams ColorSnap Visualizer APP (avl for both iPhones and Android devices) has an Instant Paint feature (AR painting your walls to try out colors) and also has other features like tools to calculate how much paint you'd need for a project etc.   Ikea --along with other furniture, housewares and other types of retailers-- has an app that lets you pick furniture and houseware items and then see them onscreen in your own rooms wherever you want to try them via the AR engine software/hardware of the phones.  I tried that out myself with an ikea chair I was considering and its pretty neat: basically browsing their wares, picking an item and placing 3d item down into a scene (what your phone's camera is aimed at) in real-time and rotating and moving it to suit you, much like in daz or other 3d environment.  So, I was able to look at my living room with phone and see the room in realtime with the ikea chair, in the color I selected, in the room with my existing stuff.  It's def like the sky-high future depicted in sci-fi movies and tv shows from the 60s and 70s is finally starting to come home. :)

@nonesuch00   I haven't heard of agastache, I'll have to go look those up. Sounds very exotic.
Edit- cool, you can make tea out of it. But it's so pretty, I'd hate to ruin the flowers!
@genaris   Oooh, that would be so weird using the phone camera like that- really neat!

Silas (Gen8M)       Killmonger Beard (Gen3/8M)        Short Curls Hair (G3/8 Male and Female)       dForce Dragon Lord Outfit (Gen8M)       Tropical Lagoon

Out of the box, no changes.

This was just to show the lagoon vegetation can be rather sparse. One thing I did not like is the groupings of the plants, you can't select individual palms, for instance. To move a plant out of the foreground, I had to move all of them. Some parts of the set are more populated than others.

The Daz Dragon 3 bump was increased a bit and his default color set to a dark gray. I can't remember what I had to do last time I rendered him a couple years ago to fix the eye- see how it is solid? Wasn't that ever addressed?????

Funnest one I ever did was when we moved into a brand new house. So new we were told we couldn't put wallpaer up yet.  So paint it was. Room was just oblong, no architectural features just a plain oblong room with a radiator on one wall  two windows in the next, then a wall with a door  and the another wall with a door.   All pinted in magnolia.

I got a paint card for the type of paint where you can get it mixed up for you and chose  old gold and 4 different shades frompale old gold to quite a rich old gold,  but shades that were next to each other on the card.  The window wall was painted with the palest colour, very carefull right up to the corner, then the next wall (door) got the next darkest, then aagin the other wall with a door got darker again and the wall with the rad got the darkest colour of all.   Used a guide at the corners to make sure I got a nice straight corner.   Then we added the furniture.    I used to love watching people looking round the room and seeing the shade progression with no obvious joins. You have to start with the palest colour on the window wall,  as it's the one as gets the least light shining on it in daytime.

Ha, I was the same when I 1st heard the word agastache used because my neighbor told me about hers. No, agastache is a native with trumpet flowers that humming birds love. It's aka hyssop or anise hyssop or hummingbird mint as a general name for all types.

There is a very short pink-magenta hyssop native to my area and here the orange type as far north as Kentucky but native to only western Kentucky & Missouri. It must be a Great Prairies native like Yucca plants. Little known fact: Yuccas grown like weeds in Kentucky and the underground roots/runners can be eaten like potatoes (look up on how to prepare yucca if you're interested).

Most agastaches that are orange are native to Mexico and south however there is a 5' Great Prairie agastache native to as far north as Missouri that is a somewhat sprawling orange agastache, called agastache rupestris. The flowers can be orange to pink red how much of one of the other depends on the flower's age, sun, soil chemistry, water, and genetics. Similar to how roses and other flowers colors can vary. You can buy the seed easily from Park Seed and other plant sellers or if you are impatient they've hybridize agastache rupestris with other even oranger colored agastache native to Mexico but generally rate that agastache only to Zone 7 although some unscrupulous resellers will rate it to zone 6 or even zone 5. In Florida is is safe though.  Those types usually a bushier in growth habit and only to 2' to 3' tall. Example is Agastache aurantiaca Coronado®. None of it stays a pure fixed 'bright orange' though but it is pretty orange when the flowers are at peak orange. I don't want to mislead you the way some places do when they call purple or lavender flowers blue. No purple/lavender is not blue except in archaic written materials where the color blue described a whole range of colors not the narrow definition of blue used today. Fact, blue used to be the word used to describe black.

    That sounds cool.

I've been thinking of using shades of blue grey (more strongly grey - like the local limestone here) or brown-creme (more strongly creme) mixed into wall plaster and then paint the walls in plaster but not completely mixed evenly colors but a tonal shade range like stone has tonal gradients typically and then have these fossil fish, fossil shell, and fossil fern stencils I add more wall plaster too to make my walls look like quarried stone walls with fossils. Well to ignorant untrained eyes like mine. That's a big mess to do though and those fossil stencils are silly expensive at $18 each. The plaster not so much, it can but bought for $25 for a 25 lb bag. Presto! My house looks as primitive as I do!

@Chohole - that sounds wonderful! It'd be fun to see the light shift over the course of time through the day & eve on the differently shaded walls. That's a great idea to add some visual interest to a plain room without overwhelming the space or the furnishings!

I like like lemon chiffon yellow exterior with white trim. A cheerful light color. Trellis of bright flowers would go up the walls.

I like 1940's retro, so my kitchen would have a color like pale pink with all matching appliances, or that aqua color. It would depend on the lighting whether I'd go dark or light. I'd want everything to match.

I presently have a red room. With cape cod white trim. The living room, and my art studio are south western brown.

If I could have my own place, the floor, would be all wood in everyplace that mattered. I'd have black and white tile in the bathroom, and every room would be a different shade. It would all be retro, with big tubs, and lots of space.

When growing up, we had a guest room that had everything in shades of english rose pink. The comforter, and curtains all matched. I rather like that.

I am not shy of color, and when the landlord recently painted my house 'accessibility beige' with Army soldier green, and a tomato colored door, I protested strongly. sadly, my house now is accessibility beige, and I hate it. I guess they can't wait for me to retire, and move (about 5 years), so they can sell it to the next victim.

Aww, that's a shame you can't have what YOU want.  :(   I love the color schemes you described.
My next door neighbor had a bold bathroom- it was dark. Marroon floor tiles and black tiles for the shower. It had two bright wall prints that had marroon, red, green, blue. The prints were small (about 8 x 10" but the bathroom was too.

My whole house interior is pale yellow with white trim. It feels sunny and bright. The exterior is brick with a maroon door and window shutters.
