    Horo: wonderful abstract!

I created a terrain from the DTE, but modified it in the terrain editor. Had to use quite a high resolution to get it a bit smooth. Used a HDRI enhanced sky by Horo and David Brinnen.

I call it 'Left in the desert', because some people left some equipment to rust or erode.

Hansmar - very well done. Terrains made in the DTE can be up to 4096 but they are still only 8-bit. You did an excellent job smoothing out the steps, lighting also helps.

    Hansmar : Excellent image.

4 terrains all the same basic image, each terrain modified in the TE, all have the same material. Just a desert scene.

Horo, adbc, Mermaid010: Thanks for your kind remarks.

adbc: your terrains look very interesting with the mixture of terrain and buildinglike items.

Mermaid010: Very nice lighting indeed. And nice difference in texture , though I prefer the shiny one.

I experimented with photographs from cloudy skies to create terrains. A bit labour intensive but interesting terrains can result. Here double stacked, the sky is a combination of Cumulus and HDRI clouds.

This image is called "Seduction and Contempt"

It was made with Genesis 1 character "Addison". Light comes from an IBL and 3 sphere lights. Rendered with TA 64 rpp with Maximum Ray Depth 4 and a second blob render of the glass with 12.

Horo: very interesting terrain. I assume you will describe the process somewhere?

    Electro-Elvis: Very beautiful render.

I understand that the render in Bryce is not inferior to many advanced renderings. And the ways to illuminate the scene are sometimes superior to those in other programs. The only drawback is the time.

Horo : The used method gives a very nice result. Excellent image.

Electro-Elvis : very nice render, the expression on her face says it all.

    Hansmar - thank you.
The process is simple. You need some graphics program, I used Photoshop but just tried it with the free GIMP 10. Load your coloured cloudy sky (or any other suitable) photo and cut it so that only the part you want remains. Change Mode to 16-bit per channel and then to Grayscale. Look at the Levels diagram and if there is no data at left (0 black) or at right (255 white) you may adjust to get the range stretched. If you want to remove gamma, you move the centre value from 1.00 to 0.4545 to get the image data linear. Resize this image to e.g. 4096 x 4096 and apply a Gaussian blur filter with a radius of about 2.5. Now downsize to 2048 x 2048 and save - you can downsize again to 1024 x 1024.
The cloud photos I found in my originals were made with the old DX camera at 3000 x 2000 pixels, no need going over 2048; therefore: double size, Gaussian blur and then down scaling.
Sometimes the terrain looks better with gamma 2.2 than without (I kept both versions and put them in the Objects library).

    adbc - thank you

Simple? For you probably, but I fear I will need to read it multiple times. Nevertheless, I might give it a try!

Horo - beautiful,  interesting terrain. Thanks for the Know-how info smiley

    Electro-Elvis- A superb render.

Hansmar - writing it up makes it more complicated than it actually is.

    mermaid - thank you.

Another example of clouds as terrains. I may bore you with more. I made 10 in 4 variants: 1024 and 2048, with and without gamma.

adbc and mermaid - thank you.

Slepalex - two very beautiful landscapes with flowery foregrounds.

Another example of clouds as terrains. Two terrains and one overlain by another three partly transparent ones with the flowers.

Wow Horo, another superb render, are the transparent flower layers from the Vegetation set?

  • adbcadbc Posts: 3,115

    Slepalex : two outstanding images.

    Horo : Excellent render.
