@Novica  perfect thanks!  I need to get a new external as well , I have 2 2 TB's and they are both full, but the 4TB WD are on sale until end of month at our local computer store for about half price so I may go in and check them out.

@kharma   Yeah it's like setting up my own little studio with the file structure :) instead of doing it IN the studio. And I'm duplicating this external harddrive so if something happens I'll have another. I got the 4TB that I mentioned earlier in the thread when it was $75 for Deal of the Day at Best Buy. (I got three of them (120 TB total and $225) for $25 more than ONE 10 TB ($200) normally cost.)

I'll put the link in the Tips section first page so you won't have to wade through and find it. I guess I'll put it under Downloading / Organizing Products.

    Novica, I PM'd you.

    @firewarden Thanks! PM'd back.

@kharma  I read up on the differences, the Passport isn't as good as the Easystore in the reviews I read awhile back. I've had both and no problems, but apparently the Easystore has less failure so that's what I got  again (and have used the past 6 years. Till I knocked it on the floor.)

@nemesis10 I understand your feelings. I also went back and forth on her.

I love having a broad range of racial and ethnic diversity of characters. The one shade of skin I have had the most problem lighting has been the deeply rich dark tones of brown and near blue-black. I bought her to see what I could do with her. And as I said, it was the gold makeup that triggered that particular set of render choices I made. I do not generally enjoy doing fashion/fantasy renders.

I have seen people who have recently immigrated to Colorado from Eastern Africa with that skin tone and features that are different from the Western African peoples. Africa is just too large and diverse to pin down just one facial or body type as the only one. As someone noted in another thread in the past, what tribal group do you want clothing/accessories from, there a XXX number of them.

Two questions I do have for those who are African Americans is how do you feel when you see non-brown/brown-black eye colors offered with a Black character? Or a render with that character with blue, hazel, green, or grey eyes? (I remember Novica earlier in this thread annoyed because one White character didn't come with even one brown eye color option.)

As a disclaimer, my family is multi-racial but it is Native American and European and I am the one that carried the Native American genes - brown hair, dark hazel eyes, medium height, while my siblings looked European, blondes & red heads, light hazel & green eyes and tall. So I have been fascinated by genetics since a class in high school.

    Mary

Hah!  I am not too bothered by the eye color thing partly because in my family people either have eyes so dark that the iris seems almost black or very light (my neice and I have eyes that are light brown/ green).  I recently did a deep google dive of black people with blue eyes (it does happen every once in a while and the proto genes that gave Europeans blue, green and grey eyes were carried out of Africa) so it doesn't bother me.  I think it is the combination of that deep blue-black skin and the definitely Caucasian nose makes her seem like cosplay.

Owners of all the 'Michael" generations get an extra 20% discount on their total cart, which includes gift cards, so combining that with the 15% off a $201 GC gets me 32% off. Nice.

I used it on Kayo 8. Got the pro bundle, and the $15 off DOs in all but one category. Also bought 4 Eastern Beauty products. Then I chose my eight 70% off Kayo's Choice from vendors in the Eastern Beauty sale… I had to revamp my cart, but it was well worth the effort.

@LAdair  Did you also get the gift card along with the Kayo Probundle, I did and with the Michael 20% off my gift card ended up being 42% off!  Over in the Wishlist thread ( I think) someone mentioned it may have been another sale from the weekend kicking in as well for such a large GC discount.

@kharma   I added another step, something I wished I thought of earlier. You can open the Product Library in one reduced window, the Explorer files in the other, and when you open the product page, select an image you like and drag it into each product folder.  Or just drag the main promo over. So when you are "sorting through" your categories in your files you can click on each and see an image too. :)  I'm on page 6 of my library and going back and getting all the images. It's worth it in case the site is down, things get pulled, etc.

Edit- For folks who have never done dragging and dropping between two windows, be sure they don't overlap and neither window will close.

I did not. I used Store Credit for the order. To get a GC would have meant coming up with hundreds now, or putting it all on Paypal Credit, (which I already have enough GCs on to eat my monthly 3D budget in payments!)

Ok great. If I had enough store credit I would have used it instead as well, but  I was very low on credit so figured this was a great time to add a bit more, hopefully it will last for  quite a while.

    @nemesis10 and @firewarden,

First nemesis10 thank you for the reply. I agree about the nose after close-up look at it.

I took both of your feedbacks to heart, and just finished with looking at her materials loaded on Alt Nida 8 Model 12 and even with trying to add AFE lines to the skin and increase the SubD, the skin remained 'Barbie doll' plastic. This is a disappointment. When I used different lights the skin did change colors, but, the skin texture never changed its look overall.

So I learned the hard way that even in the Genesis 8 era, I need to be careful with purchasing characters.

    My thanks to you both.

That's good info! I really wonder what made the skin texure act that way. I guess thats why she looks so much like a Barbie.

I have to say that when I reinstalled all my Daz stuff a few months ago, it was amazing overall to see the steady increase in quality of Genesis 8 models as I loaded newer content. One of the major contributors was the amazing quality of the textures that so many artists are producing.

Thought I'd post this in here. I imagine a lot of you passed over Diane when she went up for sale (and, unless I'm remembering wrong, wasn't included on any of the sales pages for some reason), but I found that I quite like her eyebrows for a fuller, unsculpted look that you don't seem to see very much in the store. Here they are on G8F with LY Bramble textures.

@gordig  I'm confused (nothing new)  Those don't look like Diane's brows at all, compared to the promos. Are you saying you used Bramble's textures and Diane's eyebrows?

@nemesis10   Yeah, I'm glad I have that one. Refresh my memory, when did it depart for awhile?

  • GordigGordig Posts: 10,056

Those are indeed Diane's eyebrows. I think for the main promo, she's wearing Dolb brows, because Dolb Hair Expansion is credited on the sales page.

Here's a quickie render of the same character with Dolb eyebrows.

I'd say that is very misleading. Where is any closeup of the brows you get with the product?

It did with lots of suspicion about whether it was too close to Disney IP but apparently the products were just bought by Daz.

Those eyebrows still look a lot wilder than the ones in your render.

I get a news feed from The New York Times and one item caught my eye to link to it. A series of pictures of Vermont from the air by a photographer operating a drone. If you have the NYT's subscription, I highly recommend taking the time to look at it today, the images are breathtakingly beautiful. And I am wondering how to do the same in US now.

At the end, is a link to the photographer's Instagram account where some of the images are: https://www.instagram.com/calebkenna/

Vermont is so gorgeous! I only was there in July 1977 when I was a boy and my stepfather took me on a trucker trip with him to deliver a bunch of product from Florida to Montreal Canada. The Vermont mountains were covered in green. Much of the wilderness of the beaches on the coast of Florida in contrast have long gone since Jul 1977.  I still remember the Canadian customs guard giving my stepfather the 3rd degree about having a child with him on a work trip. And that customs guy did a really good job and inspected the cargo in the trailer thoroughly too.  laugh And I remember approaching Montreal from the plains south was like approaching Oz in the way Montreal rose into the sky line. So pretty.

In case you are not aware, the store was infiltrated and html coding on the site had a hijack link to another site. Daz did not catch it. One of us did. Back on July 12th.  This is beyond disturbing, and while the moderators reported it, Daz Administration has been totally silent on how it happened, and what they're doing to prevent it in the future. I'm not comfortable clicking on any products until Daz Steve or another admin gets on the forums and explains this. That was THREE PAGES AGO in the sales thread. Barbult said we needed an answer. Not a peep. I'm not clicking (aka not buying) anything until this is explained and proof that they have fixed this virus or explained how and why that coding was there.

. A browser hijack according to Norton:

The result is the placement of unwanted advertising into the browser, and possibly the replacement of an existing home page or search page with the hijacker page. The idea is to make users visit certain websites whether they want to or not so the hijacker enjoys higher advertising revenue. Browser hijackers may also contain spyware to obtain banking information and other sensitive data.

Sevrin noted: dForce CO Kimono for Genesis 8 Female(s) contains a link to a browser hijacking software site. It gets flagged and blocked by Norton and Malwarebytes.

Edit- see post three down, Jack explained it.

I saw the original post, was it just a few days ago, or last week? And had a flashback to the number of computers I totally messed up by clicking some of those. The iMac doesn't seem to be bothered, and my Win 10 laptop I use Chromium Edge, which never seems to get even cookies, but my desktop, Win 10, I use Google on it and cookies-R-us is its motto. But if there is a way to mess myself up, I expect I will find it. It is a built-in power of mine.

Jack answered promptly  and explained it is extra coding by a PA. (Which of course, shouldn't have gotten through QA)  Frankly, I LOVE Malwarebytes. I have the premium. It catches things Norton and Kapersky don't.

Unfortunately Apple has notified me that Malwarebytes will not be compatible with a new update that is coming. So far they have disabled two other security programs I have found to use on an Apple computer. Currently relying on Bitedefender.

I bought the new Artistic Lighting Kit: Rembrandt Lights by Quixotry today and tested it with Kayo 8. I used a little makeup from Materials Wizard and the outfit is Lully's dForce Divergence Outfit. The pose came from Dark Waters Pose Collection

The new light set is so easy to use. Cameras, Lights, Props (backdrop), Render-Settings, Scenes, and Materials are all very logical to select.

When nobody from Daz commented on this issue in the forum, I submitted it as a help request. I got a pretty quick response from Emma in customer service. I don't think we are allowed to post CS responses here, but I will say that I was satisfied with the response. If Daz follows through on plans, I think it will be OK. It would be nice if they would post the information in the forum for everyone to see.
I'm not sure it is accurate to say that the store was "infiltrated". I guess in depends on your interpretation of that word. A bad thing happened, that is true. I don't know if anyone was actually hurt by it, given the protections in modern browsers. I don't believe the whole store was full of malware, trojans, ransomware or anything like that, though. i understand your hesitancy to use the store, based on the lack of Daz response in the forum.

Hopefully they will put more emphasis on bogus coding and have a security system in place to ensure this type of coding or a real virus isn't put in the system.
