AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
WHA?.....
Thanks for those examples Music. I have to admit that this was what immediately came to my mind, I somehow think the Punk movement passed me by. :coolsmirk:
All I can find in the Wayback Machine is the forum page - none of the actual downloads were captured.
I went to the rules folder at the start of this forum and tried to click on a few pages from past challenges before the new site change in May 2012. I get the same thing you did. Usually you can put http//forumarchive.daz3d.com/ your url here and get the archived page without any art but links should still be there. I can't get any of them to work. I also get a 502 error. Not sure why.
:ohh:
"Go ahead Punk....make my bed!"....hehehe.
:-)
I can judge if you need another one.
forumarchive has basically been offline for months.
This contest looks too good to pass up...
A question for the punk gods of this contest: ;-) Over on Sharecg.com, Hobobo has a large collection of textures created for the Daz Cyclorama. The image maps are drawn in a shape specifically for that cyclorama. His readme files do state the need for the Daz Cyclorama. Does using one of his textures make the once-free, now-paid Daz Cyclorama a non-counted item?
Also, if you make freebies, and post them somewhere like Sharecg.com, is that OK, or is that considered padding the list? I already have 10, but I may want to release a seamless tile I made that I could use to make the render better.
I used one of Hobobo's Cyclorama textures last month, and declared the Cyclorama as a no-count because I had picked it up for free back in the day. Music took it. (This month, you can list it i the special section because of Dollygirl's special rule.)
As for using freebies that you made yourself, I think that's okay. As long as they're available for everybody to use, it shouldn't make a difference.
You are right there Rob. As long as the freebie is made available for everyone before you use it yourself, then it does indeed count a freebie for the challenge.
Thank you, Dr. Music for that enlightening elucidation. A few years ago I took a business trip to Cambridge, England. It was in February and very cold. I managed to find the only hardcore Punk Rock club in Cambridge. I arrived straight from dinner dressed in the height of business attire, complete with Cashmere overcoat. This place made The Cavern in Liverpool, where the Beatles started, look like Buckingham Palace. See attached. Basement club, low ceiling, exposed pipes, peeling black paint...
The doorman said, "This IS a Punk Rock club, Governor."
I replied, "Oh, I like the music, I just don't dress the dress."
I have a lot of models I have to offer for free over at sharecg.com also. Feel free to go see all I have made and feel free to use any of them in this challenge. Many have before. I also have loads of models I have made for the prizes in this challenge exclusively that are not over there to give. They are only for this challenge winners.
All PUNK bands need instruments. Go see all of them I offer for free:

Ahem! Whose freebies do you think I started with?
Render posting coming right up!
No discussion of the Punk subculture would be complete without mention of Wendy O. Williams and The Plasmatics. Yes, the Sex Pistols and The Ramones came earlier, and The Clash were more famous, but W.O.W. and The Plasmatics elevated Performance Art to extremes never equaled, before or since. This was mostly because no insurance company in their right minds would underwrite such theatrics now. She blew up cars on stage, she sledgehammered TV sets, while they were turned on, she even drove a school bus through a wall of televisions. That video was banned on MTV. Their Manager, Rod Swenson (MFA from Yale) believed in the Dadaist school which held that high art needed to be confrontational. Smashing televisions while ON television, now that's confrontational.
One of their traditional stunts was to have Wendy chainsaw through an electric guitar while it was plugged in to the amps. This was usually during the guitar solo of "Butcher Baby". This was recorded on their first album, "New Hope for the Wretched".

Registration required on all sites above. The cord on the guitar going to the amp is a lost freebie that came with the microphone in the old Daz freebie site.
"Butcher Baby, they're gonna put you away!"
Cool! Nice job! The Fender Twin Reverb amp seems to have a little scaling issue, though. There's no way it would be that large compared to the Ampeg bass amps. Still cool, though!
Dana
No discussion of Wendy O Williams would be complete without mentioning the fact that she frequently wore nothing above the waist except shaving cream, and the late, great Wendy had what you'd call an Amazon body, not punk petite. I think the foamy boobs scared MTV more than the exploding TV sets.
I had the outrageous pleasure of seeing the Plasmatics perform in Toronto and your entry brings back good memories, but if you want realism, the render should be a complete blur, with stuff vaguely seen flying around in all directions. At least that's what I remember, and my camera backs me up on that.
Nice one, Slimer!

Interesting. I'll have to check that later. These are Music's props. Maybe the Ampeg's are supposed to be bigger?
Edit: Yes, it appears the Fender is twice as big as it should be. I'll re-post an updated render later. Maybe I have to stick a Marshall in there! Posing that guitar cord is an effort, tho. Here's a quick test with better proportions:

Thanks! I never saw them in person, but I did see the Ramones at the Keystone Palo Alto. It was a TINY club. My ears rang for three days.
Yes, I didn't mention the near nudity. The original version of this scene did have Adam Thwaite's breast tape prop instead of a bra! :bug: In one show (Pasadena???) she started out in full leathers and by the end of the show, she was down to sneakers, panties, and a bra that was coming undone at the straps.
What scared MTV was the idea that some fool would "try this at home" and get killed. (Somebody named Wile E. Coyote?) In one video she climbs up on top of a moving school bus and jumps off right before it explodes as it crashes into a wall of TV sets. In another she drives a car off a cliff and escapes by grabbing a rope ladder hung from a small plane. Those two were initially run in a late night time slot, then pulled altogether. She did appear on national TV wearing shaving cream and clothes pins...
The Damned video (school bus):

The original video of Master Plan with the chainsaw: (I preferred to use a mohawk rather than a leather hat):

Thanks for the comments. Glad to have something really ON topic.
Edit: Having stuff flying in all directions, with smoke, etc. would have probably required more purchased items. I did have one prop I considered using to make stuff appear to be flying off the chainsaw, but I could not locate the source of the prop.

Yes, this image looks right. But the spirit of your entry isn't changed by this...I wouldn't bother altering it unless it really bothers you. I guess the judges or Music can be the final say on whether you need to re-do it. But I don't think it's necessary.
Dana
WOW...hey Luci45...long time no see. Hope you are doing well. Good to see you up in here!

OMG! Slimer...you so crazy! That poor strat! This render rocks big! I am glad you like my models enough to destroy them, that's a compliment coming from PUNKS! When I was working with Alex Cooley productions in Atlanta, Ga in 1979, I got to work a show for the Plasmatics one night and I got to meet Wendy. She is a big ole' girl, tall. Her guys were chuckling about her ping pong ball trick...uhem!

Kind words, indeed! Actually, that's Shwaum's Stratoblaster she's sawing in half. I liked the sunburst on it, and it matched one she DID demolish. I was also toying with having her take a shotgun to the amps after sawing the guitar. She did that too...
The version of "Jail Bait" they did with Lemmy and Würzel was pretty epic. 5 guitars on stage and her screaming over them all.
Careful with those cream pies, fellas. Wendy might need them for more coverage! She appeared in some sleazy rag like Club or Celebrity under the title "Rocker's Knockers". :bug:
One year for Halloween, I went as the Punk Nixon. Instead of the usual blue suit with envelopes of money and reels of tape hanging out the pockets, I wore tight black pants, a black leather jacket with road rash on it, a 1" wide black leather tie, and to top it off, a safety pin in Nixon's cheek. Dat was a hoot.

Aw, jeez, I love dis one! Da Man does it again! %-P
Yeah, we rockin' now! :-)
Lord Ganthor, are you sure the Ramones didn't punch you in the head a few too many times? Story goes when Johnny Rotten went to see the Ramones in London, they had to sneak him in the back way. He was afraid the Ramones would beat him up for sneaking into their show. Looks like your punk is an Anarchist too, lighting cigars from Molotov Cocktails. The punk dog really makes it!
Kalazar, I'd say that's pretty accurate for Caltech. Caltech had it's punks and rockers too! When I was there, we had a great house band. That was before punk, tho. The most faithful depiction of Caltech culture was, of course, the movie Real Genius. I was there in the early 70's. That movie hit a little too close to home for me. No, we didn't burn holes in a wall with a laser, but...
:-P Great! Another classic! I love what you did for the mutt, too!
