Totally agree, Jeff loved the Freebie challenge, he said that it was the freebie challenge that first got him started in doing 3d art. That's why he was happy to put prizes up to try and give it some more ummph.
How about if we make next month's Freebie Challenge a Jaderail Tribute Challenge? All renders have to have a Drow, or other blue-skinned characters in it.
What a smashing idea
I heard the news early this morning just about 2 minuets before I had to leave for work. I've been mulling over this all day trying to come up with something to say and words still escape me...and will continue to escape me for quite a while. The idea of a Jaderail Tribute Challenge is a wonderful idea, but....if I may be so bold as to throw my two copper pieces into the pot, why not take it a little bit farther? A Drow in the render is a given, but why not add a little more and make it an old fashion, old school AD&D free-for-all? I'm talkin' hardcore, 2nd edition play 'till 3 am. I'm an old school player from way back in the early 1980s and even though I haven't played in years, those days still linger with me. I dunno, it's just a suggestion....the best I could come up with to honor somebody who was very special to us here. Sad, sad day. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

chohole has given me a few ideas on taking the theme I already have and tying tributes to Jeff into it. If we go with the original theme, I'll mention them on the first. If not, I'll save that theme for later.

But I am going to broaden the theme a bit to let folks do homage renders if they want to - it'll be a bit difficult to work in a blue-skinned elf, so you'll have to be a bit more subtle in your tributes.
This is good Robkelk. I feel like someone hit me right in the face with a fist when I heard the news. I really don't think any of us quite know what to say. All we can do is honor him and remember him for the kind person that he was. My condolences go out to the Daz team, you guys knew him best of all. May God be with each of you through this. I will do all I can to be here for anyone who needs me for anything.

OMG. another great loss in this community.... Jaderail was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed. To Jeff's family if there is a way to reach them, my greatest condolence's in this very sad time. He is smiling down on us all from heaven I'm sure of it...

As is traditional, the theme will be announced in the first post of the monthly thread. Most of the challenge coordination team knows it, as do some folks who've been approached for prizes. And, of course, the host (this time around, me) knows the theme.
Don't worry - I'll make it clear what sort of renders would make for good homages to Jeff and still match the theme.

Someone here told me that JADE loved to fish. So as my part in the tribute, next month, I will be donating a copy of my Bass boat on a trailer in .pp2 format. The boat is seperate from the trailer and comes with a digital fish finder, two swival seats, rope and ancor, movable trolling motor, and movable main motor. The jack handle works on the trailer too. Since JADE gave pretty much to HMs, this prize will go to the two HMs for next month ONLY.

They look ready to rock! Nice reflections on the chrome leg guards! But, no shadows and the lighting looks a bit low contrast (which is fine if that was your intent). Did you forget to turn on shadows?

DanaNope. The "lack" of shadows isn't a lack at all. They're simply within the shadows of the tall buildings surrounding them. It's also night time. It seems to be a limitation if DAZ Studio. Apparently, you cannot cast a shadow within another shadow. If you look closely, you'll also notice the reflections in all of their belt buckles and metal accessories, as well as Ashley's eyes (she has chrome cybernetic eyes).
Hmm...didn't know that. I've never tried it, either. Yes, I saw the other reflections...it's just that the leg guards impressed me.

It looks a little dark on my end too. It took me a while to figure out what was happening with the guys legs on the right. Then I relized they were chrome with reflections. Looked like the mesh had disappeared...lol. Anyway, all is here.

I wouldn't want to be on her bad side! Nice looking image. Her right hand seems posed at a bit of an extreme, though. Try that with your own hand. It's quite uncomfortable. I get the feeling you were trying to position the crossbow so it would show better. Other than that the pose is very well done!

Very nice vivayo. I like how the backdrop seems continuous, I have yet to try that my self. That bike and wheel surfaces look really good.
And whom is to say "Steam Punk", is not Punk? Mostly just a hypothetical question as I venture threw, lol.

You are probably right... I hate posing hands. I find so difficult to have a combination of wrist and fingers position that looks right.

It is a challenge, but I like doing my own posing. There are plenty of canned pose packages out there though. Some are free, too, I imagine. I know Adam Thwaites has a lot of pose packages, but I think most of them are rather sexy model or glamor poses for V4 and the other females since her. There must be some around, though, perhaps at ShareCG. When posing hands I will actually try the pose with my own hand, then try to capture that pose. It helps.

Danathat's exactly what I do, tho more then just with the hands. I agree tho, the rotations for the thumb is not exactly 'intuitive'. Besides, sometimes it is good to get out of the office chair and walk around, lol.
