    @Roland: I tried Blender after I couldn't figure out how to use Bryce, but came back to Bryce after realizing I couldn't figure out how to use Blender. Even following Blender tutorials, I still couldn't follow its usage.

    @Roland4 - nice embossed work.

    @Jamie - same for me. Though at least in my case, this doesn't mean Blender is bad, it means that I'm incapable to use it.

    Thanks Horo, i make this with Blender. The angel is real displaced, but it have 500256 poligons and the edges are not smoothed and round.

    @Roland4 - you know, you could draw the angel as a monochrome picture in a graphics application and use it in the Terrain Editor. Here is a very old render doing it in that way. The sun dial was scanned, the picture converted to monochrome and used as a terrain.

    Thanks Horo, i know this but the roblem is, that the jewel box and the medallion is one object. I will try your suggestion immediately and will show you the result.

    @Horo

    In this picture i have make the angel with a terrain and put it in Bryce together. I think the result is not so good.

    Getting the Emboss look on a Bryce Terrain object does take some adjustments to make it look decent. it helps I think if the image has a bit of gradient between black and white to smooth some of the sharp transitions. you can also adjust the settings in the Terrain Editor to help.

    Here we have a random "Angel" image grabbed from the internet. this took a bit of trial and error to get it looking like it does. I probably would have had an easier time if I ran the image through an image editor first to clean it up for Bryce.

    This is the original picture i use. Load the picture in a graphic software and make the background black, then you can see, that the edges look awful from.

    Roland, I wrote this tutorial for GIMP on cutting out a selection from an image using the paths tool. It's an old tutorial for an older version of GIMP, but maybe it'll help you. http://www.gimptalk.com/index.php?/topic/730-cutting-out-renders-using-the-paths-tool/

    The word "Render" in the title is completely wrong, but for a long time, that's what people were calling it on GIMP/Photoshop forums. So, I used it so they would "understand" what I was talking about.

    Not sure if it helps, but maybe it will.

    I have make this with Gimp and use first the function convert bitmap to path and then export path to svg. In Blender i have import the svg.

    Unless, something has changed in GIMP that I'm unaware of, I don't think there's a convert bitmap to path function. Could it be Inkscape you're referring to? I know Inkscape has that option. At any rate, I wasn't sure if it would help you with cleaning up the edges.

    Uff, I have an extra data volume bought (I can not be without DAZ & Bryce).

    It is possible with Gimp. Selection save to path and then export path to name.svg.

    edit: Apologies, I was wrong. It referred to a simple black and white image.

    @fencepost: Nice tutorial, learned something new, though I don't know when it'll be used.

    @Roland: Just playing with the GIMP Path command, I see where you can use this to place points around that image then cut away the feather looking edges. It would take time to place and adjust the points, but it could be done.

    @Roland - you've got to do it as Rareth explains if you don't have a graphics program that can do 48-bit. 24-bit is reduced to 8-bit grey by Bryce and this gives the steps and the ugly outline. In fact, you need a program that can do 16-bit greyscale. There are not many that can. But if you can do 48-bit, I have a free conversion program on my website to make it Bryce compatible.

    Here is your image saved as a 16 bit TIFF with transparent background. I tried cleaning up the edges but they are very badly stepped from whoever cut it out first and they wont stay sharp. You can try it out though and see how it does.

    It is nearly 4Mb so a big download :)

    Link removed as it doesn't work :red:

    not to mention the higher resolution, the less pixilation you'll get. I found a line drawing of your Cherub/Angel, I ran it through photoshop elements (came free with the computer) converted it to Black and white (not greyscale) and adjusted the contrast so the lines were sharp.

    Then I brought it into Bryce to play with it, in the Terrain Editor.

    Cherub Image

    I do not know what's going on, but an error message appears when I try to load the image in Bryce.

    I like it here in this forum. I hope you don't mind me hanging around for a bit. I do not really consider myself nearly as prolific and accomplished at Bryce as you all seem to be. My field is actually music of which I (humbly) consider myself a specialist.

    This piece I call Pompeii. :)

    While I had the Cherub loaded, I thought I'd do a variation...

    ... This is how it turned out.
