The settings do work on v7, except for the arms for some reason. I'm not sure how much it improved v7 base texture, which even tweaked, looks bad to me in 3delight.
It does give you better tonal variety in the skin. By default V7 looks very muddy to me.
@Novica. Did you notice fastgrab changed quick? Hopefully they'll switch it again... I have a few more vendors I'd love to buy from.
Well, it's about time they changed Fast Grab. Been days. It is different than this morning (still had the wings set this morning.)
I'm still waiting on more G3F characters...
half of your wish is granted ... FG has changed to jewelry and scenery:

And they're doing a nice variety of the Fast Grab vs the featured sale. You get food over there.
Thought I'd show you an experiment. I did an iray render and wondered how that would look in 3DL. In other words, if you set something up for iray, how does it look in 3DL? Wanted to see how 3DL would handle it.
I set up and rendered my iray render. This is going to be 3 spotlights and 1 distant light in all these renders. In Environment, it's with the (HDR or HDRI map that is the default. And how do I know if it's HDR or HDRI?)
Okay, first image. The 3DL render without making any changes other than to switch from iray back to 3DL.
Second image. The iray render.
While it is quite obvious that there are big differences, what struck me were the eyes. Wow. The lips on the 3dl are overly glossy too.
So then I thought, "I'll add shadows to the 3dl light and see if that helps with the realism. Also will make the lights more white to get rid of the muddy."
Well, it helped with the skin tone a bit. I don't normally add shadows to all the lights, it depends, but this shows where the shadows are being cast with all lights having them. More of a curiosity type thing.
So let's see how close I can get it in 3DL (well, not spending hours on it) here's adding a distant light from our left. It's at 36.1% and I'm doing one now with a lower intensity. I'll add that when it gets done.
EDIT: Putting the iray back in so you can keep comparing. Remember, other than the distant light that I added, all lights are the same position. The 3DL lights were put to almost white as that got the closest color to the iray one.
Well ... my opinion ... you would have to use UberEnvironment and put the HDR picture in there to have a real comparison between the Iray and 3Delight.
Remember that the HDRI is helping the Iray render to know where to have what kind of lighting - and you can "fake" this with an UberEnvironment light.
I think so too. :) I wanted to see what merely switching renderers would do, and the map is definitely going to help.
I've been out doing yardwork since 6am and am off to get mulch before it gets hotter. One question- how do I know what map is being used in iray- and can the same HDR and HDRI maps be used in both iray and 3dl? I'm not familiar with how those work. (I know image/sphere, light distributed based on a real scene- at least that's how I'm remembering it.)

Go down to 2. Iray Image Based Light - there it shows the pane where to look for the map
Excellent- I'm starting at the beginning of it and reading through it. Very helpful. Thanks Kerya! :)
Interesting experiment. I sort of liked the basic male texture for Iray in 3delight, it is pale but, might look nice for a more ethereal-never-got-the-sun character.
Wow, it whacked down the number of new posts and eliminated everything in our signatures. All in all though it seems to be an improvement so far. LOL had to try that thumbs up. It's in the smileys (which seem to have a lot less than before?)
I find it hard to read. AndI think the flag is a bit too easy for people to accidentally click on. I also find attaching the images file looks smaller. I liked the way the other forum handled pics.
Finally, I can capitalize my name.
Hunting down all my subscribed threads isn't gonna be fun.. here's #1..
Watch out! You will start getting email for every single post to every subscribed thread! It no longer waits until you have viewed the thread to send the next email message. I currently have only one thread resubscribed, and i have received dozens of emails from it in the last two hours.
Well - I subscribed to 11 threads now, some of them did get answers - and I didn't get emails at all.
How fun ...
Gear icon at top right > click on your name > click the gear next to your name > Edit Profile > Notifications, set it to Email (but be warned, it doesn't do smart notificartions yet, you get one for every new post)
I did - obviously it took some time to work, because I am getting notifications now ...
Are the links in the notifications emails broken for you too?
I have to copy / paste instead of just click ...
Kerya, love your avatar! Really cute.
Did ya'll notice the new description for the Art Studio by Chohole, done last month? I like it. She did a nice job, it's very complimentary.
"Take a look around. Make yourself comfy. Here you see a full-working studio. Over there, you will find advice if you've gotten stumped or want a new pair of eyes on your work. Here we've got an arsenal of tools and techniques you may not have run across. *Feel free to drop off some of your own tried-and-trues; this is a community studio, you know.* Through here, you'll find Inspiration...everyone needs a boost now and then." (and a few more lines.)
Mike, do you know why the number of forum posts is low? I was over 9000.
If any of you had bookmarked topics, my reference thread is still there. I believe we simply substitute in /discussions/ instead of viewthread and they should work?
NOTE: For those of you who are using tier discounts, one I have been waiting for went onto OLD status (meaning you get more off) and that is:

Oh, my the prices are pretty high today. Awww well, too bad. I guess I will not be buying any new sci-fi today.
This is in Fast Grab and if you're looking for water, it's included. So are the birds lol.

Interesting robotic lab. There was the bot shop...And it's 46% off because it's in a featured store. I do like the sleek and shiny approach to the robotic lab.

The bot shop is awesome. I like the new Robotic Lab, but, I'm afraid it is out of my price range.
The old links are working!!! This might have already been posted, but I tested the links in my first post of this thread (the ones at the top) and they are all redirecting apparently!!!! (the links to thread 1, 2, 3, etc)
Well, okay. Any new images are as attachments and you have to click on them to see our images. YUCK. And can't do side by side comparisons unless we take it into a graphics program and do a composite. Another YUCK. If you haven't seen the new "attachments" SereneNight has posted in her thread and it is "attached."
That is not correct.
You can post inline images
in diferent sizes
Click in the question mark at the toolbar and go to the CKEditor User Guide to get a better idea of what you can do now. It is better than the previous forum software. There are some missing features yet but I think it is on way.
Good deal! I'll have to look into that. Thanks for letting us know!
BTW, in case the regular Art Studio folks haven't noticed, we inherited all the Animation forum threads. They merged the two.
Hi Novica
I want to tell you if you add a picture as an attachment you can drag it to the text Box and enlarge it , so it kind of like having a thumb nail view and a full view . just remember though if you enlarge your pictures over 600 pixels , Mobil users will have to scroll around d to view it I was testing this out last night. its a good work around for showing your renders and examples
I used an example to show you . I hope this helps you in your use of the forums :)
Have a great day
Ivy
Attachment size 1920 x 1080, thumb nail size 200 x 120. enlarged pictures 600 x 333 set target to blank
picture taken from my new karate girl animion story board
Hey Ivy!
Thanks- that is something to consider. I'll have to test it and see- if I drag it to the text box to enlarge, does it tell me what the pixels are that I am enlarging it to? Apparently it does as you know the dimensions. Thanks so much! I am going through the Commons thread about the new forums (on page 15) and saw your post. This is extremely helpful!!!!
Here's a few other forum tidbits from that thread:
From Render Boy: This seems to work for searching: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/search -- it will give you a box where you can put in search terms. Or you can get fancy with the URL and do something like this: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/search?Search=search+forum
From 3dCheapSkate: When you're editing your signature you have an option to never display anybodys signatures, or just not to display images in signatures,... there's a quote folding option so only one quote is displayed (why not zero?). With signatures hidden and quotes folded I can now sometimes almost see three posts at a time!
From me- want to make sure the previous person doesn't get blamed for my opinion, lol- I hate turning off people's signatures but I'm doing it. That unfortunately means I miss out on worthwhile links too, but I can't STAND all the clutter. People could learn from Ivy's signature. Classy. (Watch her prank me and blow hers up and put a neon orange banner in place of it, with hot yellow letters, then run it all the way across the page.) With the forum layout (SO MUCH WASTED SPACE) the forums are horrible regarding seeing posts. If eliminating sigs and quotes folded gets three views instead of one, I'm off to change the settings.
Another thing I wanted to mention since Ivy popped in- the moderators managed to merge her Art Studio and Animation threads, so if you're looking for the Animation one, they're combined. Great stuff there! Wouldn't it have been nice to get some warning about the forums changing over?
I do want to say one Kudos to Daz- they kept the PMs. I have mine with Jaderail and I would have been extremely, extremely upset had those disappeared. (I'm assuming they are there..) Do you all remember it was this month a year ago that we got the sad news? (Around the 24th I believe) Miss that Drow's daily help with everyone's dilemmas. I'll always remember his battle with Spyro- if you missed that, their avatars / characters went after each other. It was priceless! (Think, "Game on dude!") We were all giggling and waiting to see what each one would do next. I tend to remember that to celebrate Jeff instead of feeling sad. (How can you feel sad when someone gets the upper hand and the other dude gets an arrow in the backside? Priceless!)
