    Traditional Styled Hot Rod Sedan

An Old Skool hot rod powered by a flat head V8. These were the kinds of hot rods that were the norm when I was growing up and one of the reasons I feel in love with the cool cars which were so popular and showcased in all the popular hot rod magazines.  Illustration is based on a 3D model I created from scratch using Hexagon 3D w.5 and Silo 2.0.

Rendered in Daz Studio with 3D Delight renderer. Post work in Photoshop CC 2018, Topaz Studion Impression and Filter Forge 7.0. Just upgraded to FF ver 7.0 last night.

The same model but rendered in Vue Complete

Rendered as NPR using e-onsoftware's Vue Complete

WOW. Your modeling skills are impressive. My family has a love affair with hot rods -- my older brother is rebuilding dad's old hot rod (Model A frame with too many other body parts, including custom fabricated stuff that dad did when he was 15 and just learning to weld). You have created a sweet ride, mister! I'm very impressed. Your NPR work is nice, too. The first one being my favorite. The background on the second NPR piece is just so busy that it detracts from the car without adding any sense of place (ground, reflections, etc.). Nevertheless, both are GREAT NPR illustrations.

PS: Nice to see some Vue work here. I loved that program, but am not using it these days because it doesn't really fit into my workflow.

I have a love for classic cars and hot rods too. In 1983 I purchased a 1960 Corvette that was being used as a drag strip racer and over several years go her back to where I wanted it. Still own the car but it's tucked away in my garage for our cold Canadian winters....

Cars/hot rods, hockey, photography & digital art are my passions...

    Guardian of the Woods

A mythical ent is the gathering place for the young, weak and meek dwellers of the forest who seek protection from unseen evil and threats.

A digital illustration I created on my computer using my Wacom Intous tablet, Photoshop CC 2017, Corel Painter 2017, ArtRage 5 & Daz3D Studio 4.9.

I created the tree character with a demo version of ZBrush a few years ago and just re-discovered it recently. Decided to put it to use.

I opted to purchase 3DCoat as ZBrush has a weird interface that I could never come to grasp with. Haven't looked at ZBrush core though but not too sure if would do anything 3DCoat can not.

Will's greyscale shade + sketch-and-color from filter forge.

ETA a couple more variations. Thinking hard about how I want the art to look in a project of mine. Rendering with Will's shader w/ dfifuse colors applied works sooooo well in these filter sets. I dunno if I'm totally subverting the point of the shader, but....

    Realy like this!

    Very nice indeed....

I've been watching this thread for awhile and trying to take notes.

These are my first successful attempts at using LineRender9000, with different postwork effects. It started out as Joan of Arc, but then morphed into this... Rendered in Daz 4.9, 3DL. Postwork using Painter Essentials 5 and OnOne.

I'd appreciate some constructive feedback on general style, use of LR9k, postwork, composition, or anything else. I'm trying to learn. Thank you!

    The Elven Dragon Huntress

That one is my favorite. The lines look great and it has a really nice illustrated/painted look. Well done!

By the way, that's really outstanding composition! Your eye is drawn to her face first due to the high color contrast there (orange against blue) and how well lit the face is, then the curve of her weapon draws your eye to the threat, the dragon, and then the shape/curve of the dragon's wings draw your eyes down to her mount. But the curves of the armor spikes on her mount keeps your eyes from "falling off" the page and back up. With the direction that the mount's ears are pointing in and the direction of the spikes of it's armor it leads the eye back to the character. I don't know if you did that on purpose but it really came out beautifully composed!

@Holloko I'm still blown away at how lovely your image is and your excellent composition. I hope you don't mind my chicken scratches on your image, I just wanted to illustrate what I meant by the eye flow:

    Awesome indeed... Love it...

Aanother Carrara render. This image has extensive postwork, but the good thing  about Carrara is that, straight out of the box, Carrara will give you a lot of different passes to play with. Plus it has an inbuilt toon renderer you can also combine with these passes in post.Plus it has an NPR renderer which really does need a bit more love from its users - ie exploration.

It also has a hair tool which gives reasonable NPR fur. You can also render this out as a different pass.

The passes I have used in this are diffuse, colour, coverage, shadow, beauty, index , primitive volume (for isolating hair) plus some others. The coverage layer gives object lines, but allows isolation of image elements for your post work, (as does the object pass - which gives more choice in masking for postwork) You can treat each pass eg shadow pass differently in post work and once combined in layers you have much more leeway than just trying to work with the beauty pass.

I've upped the saturation to get more of that old fashioned kid's book feel - I hope that works? The Character is Housemouse dressed up in some banged together clothes. Carrara is around 45 bucks at the moment (?) for pc members.

edit - forgot to erase the transmap outline of his whiskers ;)

Haven't logged in a while(dang holidays), but the recent renders are astonishing. Since I'm here, I might as well put in my 2 cents feel free to critique.

great pose and a feeling of action - maybe a few outlines around the right hand and foot would add zing???

Off topic - Thanks for the idea @philebus - I'd never heard of the audio series but I just bought it as an Xmas prezzie for a friend who is a huge Dr. Who fan.

Diva's post got me interested in the Elebeast for Gen 3 Male. So I had to purchase it.

I dressed the beast with some of the stuff from Thracian Gladiator Outfit for Genesis 3 Male

    and came up with this...

DazStudio 4.10, 3D Delight renderer, Photoshop CC 2018, Topaz Studio Impression, Filter Forge 7 and a texture image of concrete.

Outstanding! I’ve very much enjoyed your work so far, but this one really stands out for me.  You need to do a “Tower of the Elephant” render now... wink

pleasure - I'd make a duplicate layer and use Comic Weirdness (I think it is called) I think you can just get and outline with it???

then drop the opcaity weight down and change parameter to darker colour or multiply and erase what you dont want

this is the one ? https://www.filterforge.com/filters/3027.html

    Thanks wsterdan, very kind...

I came home and had supper. And wanting to catch a nap to watch the hockey game between the St Louis Blues and the Anahiem Ducks which comes on tv at 10:00PM (I like in Nova Scotia and it's a 2 hour time difference with Missouri). Been a fan of the St Louis Blues since 1968 and with today's technology I'm able to watch jsut about every game they play blows my mind...

Anyway, couldn't catch a wink. So I got up and found this old castle model on my hard drive. I created it a few years ago in Groboto3D ver 3.5 and had forgotten about it. DId a very quick render in Groboto and brought the image over to Photoshop CC 2018. I used Topaz Studio Impression (Da Vinci Sketch III, Impression Workflow, Edrward Hopper III), Filter Forge 7 (Sketch Cleaner Lite, Crosshatching, Army of Splat) and ArtRage 5 (painted birds and using the glitter spray put some heavy texture on the castle).

Hope my Blues beat the Ducks and I can stay awake to watch the whole game...

NPR render of a space car using Photoschop & Topaz Studio Impression...Base render was done in 3D Coat with an photo as backdrop. Photo was a free item from another forum (I forget exaclty where).

I modeled the space car using Groboto3D & 3D Coat. Texturing also done in 3D Coat...

Distant birds were painted in using ArtRage 5 and a custom stencil I created and is available for free on the ArtRage forums...

Very fetching image. I like the transition between orange and gray in the sky, and the clouds provide enough contrast so the gray of the ship doesn't get lost against the gray sky. The rest of the image has a nice painted look, except for the lights coming from the ship. They are a bit too clean and prcise when compared to the rest of the image.I would expect more stippling inside the light beams so they would appear to be in the same style as the rest of the image. Nevertheless, VERY NICE WORK.

This has a nice storybook quality to it. love the slightly bent tree and the detail of the vines going up the side of the house. The vignette effect around the edges is very pleasing to the eye.
