Converted mats to AweSurface and used IBL-Master with a HDRI, ok I promise I'll include a lady next time;)
..well appears I'll just be a spectator here for a while. Apparently my D: (library) drive went south taking my runtimes and about 6 years of completed and in progress scene files with it. Much of the content were freebie cars I accumulated over the years as well as purchases from Rendo. (not sure how long they keep download links active). Just reconstructing all my Daz libraries and Poser runtimes is going to take a while once I can get a new drive installed.
Really don't look forward to starting from square one again.

Nice image! Never thought much of that ad, though. Like a rock. Unless it's rolling or sliding downhill, a rock just sits there.

I think you can go to your order history over there and view an order and get the links to download again. I think. I have my downloads stored...I don't delete them after installing. I also copy my downloads folders and my content libraries to my external drive. Eventually, I will make copies onto CD or DVD as well. I still have downloaded freebies from 2008!

Be sure and store a backup off site
I had done the same as you with external drives and optical disk but they were all at the apartment when it burnt back in 2012
Now I have copies stored with my daughter and with my nephew
...no when I put drive on the test blocks it made ticking noises at boot up which means the FAT sector is hosed. So, six years of my life is lost. and I'm thinking of just leaving all this as I'm not thrilled of having to rebuild all my characters and scenes for my story all over again.
Oh man!!! Don't give up! I had a processor/harddisc crash some time ago and it wouldnt boot. The local computer store managed to save everything except the applications. I got the data on an external HD and just plugged it into my new (current) machine and was up and running in notime. Don't try to boot it!!! Don't touch it! Take it to somebody that has experience in those things! Good luck buddy!
...This is an FAT sector corruption so nothing is recoverable as nothing on the the HDD can be addressed.
I also just cannot think of having to take years to re-create all the characters and scenes from scratch again, particularly at my age..
man that really sucks.. Thinking I might go with a RAID setup on my next system.. (or perhaps an external one)
Don't have children. Sisters' places not reliable or realistic. One lives more than eight hours away, the other lives in housing for elderly and disabled. Iffy building. Always hot, melting me hot...even in the winter. Sometimes the heat comes on, in the middle of the summer. She's crammed in there, too, small place and no room for all of her own stuff. If it's that important, perhaps I'd get a bank box, but that is probably expensive. I am here most of the time, don't allow smoking in my house, don't use candles (one of the leading causes of house fires), good wiring (house is only 20 years old). I feel pretty safe. I know, nothing is guaranteed in life.
Thanks for the advice, though! I have thought about it. I was in the IT world, so I know about off-site backups.

I hear you my daughter is in Alabama and my nephew is 14 hour drive but mail's cheap and faster than some of the other alternatives.
Had a safety deposit box ran $130 a year and thought about keeping it (was for me and my cousin) but couldn't justify it after my cousin passed
Mail is cheap...and they lose things and damage things. I don't trust them with many things, especially breakable things.

$130 a year isn't too bad, that's about $11 a month. Right now, though, every dollar hurts.

I've been using a raid 1 setup for years now. First I had a pair of 500Gb drives, then upgraded to 1Tb, and then 4Tb. I was starting to feel like a sucker paying for two drives and only using half the storage. But then this past year one of my drives died. After troubleshooting I couldn't get it to work, so I went to Amazon and ordered a replacement. I popped the new drive in, Windows recognised it and started rebuilding the image. About a day or so later, it was back to 100% Health. So I guess it was definitely worth it. It saved me from losing 8 or more years of stuff.
The only problem with it is that Windows won't alert you when something's wrong with the volume. If I hadn't looked at the Disk Management window, I'd probably still be using only one drive right now, about to lose all my data and not knowing it. Honestly, I don't know how long that drive was bad before I noticed it.
Look for a program called Hard Drive Sentinal. It goes for free sometimes on bitsdujour.com

Nationale7 is going by 3D Classics now, but no, that car is available at DAZ, its the 36 AM Sedan I think, there is even an iray set for it now, I made the mods to it a few years back, but if your a PC member, you can get the car for $1.99.
