I get confused about which characters are G3F. Since there is a Victoria 4 and Mike 4, I would think that G3 refers to V3 and M3, but somehow I think that G3 is maybe the 7 characters. Or maybe the 6.

    Yes Saphire is correct

V3 and M3 are stand alone characters

V4 and M4 are stand alone characters

    Genesis has V5 and M5

    Genesis 2 has V6 and M6

    Genesis 3 has V7 and M7

And they finally fixed the mis matched number in G8 because it has V8 and I am assuming M8- so this last generation all matches.  It is very confusing lol. It took me months and months to get it all straight.

Scott Livingstone started a very helpful thread documenting the history of all the generations of figures in DAZ Studio, along with the various compatibilities.

    Find it here:

Finally had a chance to sit down and do the post work on this one.  Using Chanteur De Vents gorgeous prop Futuristic Glass Elevator & Building Kit which I had the great pleasure of helping to test.  The whole kit is amazing but I will say this is my favorite part, the separate elevator prop.  I immediately thought time machine, the second I saw the very first WIP.  I am going to have so much fun with this, an infinite number of worlds to visit and off course, the building itself will be the headquarters.  Any way here is the original render and then a couple of different post worked versions. In order, original render, bi color photo, high contrast, Click to enlarge, I do most of my stuff at around 2000.

I think #3 is my fave, although one thing I really like about the original render is that the glass edges of the elevator are really visible.Althought hey are still there in the post worked versions, a little (very little) something is lost.  Perhaps the colors soften the edges, I'm not certain what it is.  I love the scene and great idea adding the lightning.

I like #1 and #3 the best the fact that the bluish lighting adds something to the mystery of time travel!!!

I like three the best, too.

Three is my favorite as well lol. Happy with how it turned out.  Going to have fun with that prop and the time travel thing!

Really quick test of Second Circle's Karen for G8F.  She is really gorgeous AND you can see her make up in the working window, I don't have to struggle through 12 make up changes with the Iray preview window.  Will definitely be picking up more of his characters when I get the chance

You Want To Go THAT Way

Did this render earlier in the week and finally had a chance to do some post work.  The first one is the original, second one is all of the photoshop work and the third one is with a NIK filter. As always click or the bigger pictures, I usually render at 2000 or more.

I kind of feel like I am talking to myself lol.  Its been a crazy summer, and I didn't get nearly enough done that I wanted.  I'm super disappointed that I didn't have the time to really dig into Carrara.  It of course, takes me 4 times as long to do anything in Carrara as I am still learning my way around, and I really haven't had much time at all to render anything . I think I've done half the amount of renders or less in August than I normally do.  July as well.  I had a catastophic exterior drive failure on the one connected to my lap top which I am still working on sorting everything out in the new drive. I lost all of the renders that I did on the laptop, my entire library of textures etc...Thankfully, a lot of the renders are on this thread, and at Deviant Art etc. so they are not completely gone.

I did get all of my G3F characters moved up to G8 and I also did get most of the V4's up to G3F in preparation to moving them to G8F. I just like the expressions so much better, I feel its worth the effort.  I have gotten through most of the A's in V4 moving skins up to G3f but still have a long way to go.  As well as the clothing conversions for everyone.  Again, I still feel its worth the effort to do.

I'm also working on my postworking skills, I feel like my skills in Studio and my skills in Photoshop are now about equal (as in I may have a bit of clue in both now lol)so its time to work on combining the two.  So lots of tutorials, but post work is something I love, although it can be somewhat time consuming.  I just feel that if I want to take things to the next level I need to combine these skills.  And I really need to work on learning Carrara, as the modelling and the terrain capabilities (and I'm really interested in the hair and some other things as well) can only be an added skill well worth having.

I haven't forgotten my thread on moving the V4 clothing up to G3f although I should now do them up to G8F lol.

Seems you managed way more than I did... I'm still lettin the g8s sit and keep going with g3, now that I pretty much have everything to form them to my liking which I would need all new for the g8. I didn't even get inspired enough to make a render with any of the guys from the pro bundle, and the is a rare thing. Well I guess they will get used at some point.

I got to say that I like the darker version best for your go that way render, though it would be nice to see more of the eyes but the gold has more of a realistic shine and contrasts the dark skin nice.

  • IceDragonArtIceDragonArt Posts: 12,548

Thanks!  The darker one does give it a bit more of an ominous feel.

As far as G8 goes, I am moving everything up so I can use them with the better expressions.  I haven't purchased hardly anything for G8, I got the extra morph packs so I can make characters if I want but I have SO MUCH STUFF for the previous generations, moving them up instead of investing a huge amount into this next generation makes far more sense for my budget.  And I didn't purchase M8, to me, he looks far too much like G3M which I am not that fond of either.  I still prefer my G2 males lol.

Nice!  I like the last one the best, methinks.

I like the last one, too.  You can see more detail on her.

Thanks everyone.  It was nice to have a wee bit of extra time to actually go from render to post work.  I was recently introduced to ShiftArt by Llynara and while I haven't had time to actually DO any of the tutorials, I have been avidly watching them on breaks at work and when I have a couple of spare moments.  They are all available in written tutorial style with lots of pictures to explain everything.  Great resource for anyone wanting to increase their post working skills.

This is a super (and I mean really super) fast test of the Herschel Hoffmeyer's new Hydra.  Straight out of the box, dropped into Magix101 Iray's world, clicked on a different pose for each head (yes, heads are individually poseable AND have a ton of morphs for each neck)  I saved this scene, and plan on adding all the bits and pieces to make it a real scene as soon as I get a chance but straight out of the box I love him! Has several color choices as well, and severed necks with an actual severed head to be added via update soon.  Highly recommend this one! Click for full size

    Hydra render looks great!

How can we get you on the faaast track to learning Carrara?  I know... take all your other toys away. :)  Seriously... were do you get slowed down?

BTW:  Don't know if you saw it yet but I have my Animation in Carrara - Let's Animate - Q&A - Come One & All thread which is off to a very good start.

Ummm make my real life less complicated and busy?  Lol.  Its really been a very very busy summer, between putting the wedding together, my daughter graduating and we spend far more time outdoors and out camping in the summer.  Its relatively quick for me to do some quick renders in Studio, Carrara takes much more time (which I am sure will get better as I get more familiar with it)  And lately, I have just been throwing together some quick test renders later in the evening when things have calmed down just so I can do SOMETHING, anything lol.  As it gets cooler we will not be out and about nearly as much and my time will be freed up to spend the time I need to really dig in.  I am determined to master it thought so I haven't abandoned it or anything.  Heck the only reason I am on the forums so often is that I am on at work all the time (with the bosses permission in case anyone is curious).  Otherwise, I would be even further behind, at least during breaks and slow periods, I can watch tutorials or read them or catch up on stuff.

Oops... forgot... it has been a busy summer for you.  I'll prepare myself for questions this winter.  Oh... perhaps I should warn Diomede... naw... he is always prepared. :)

I never thought I needed a hydra.  Your gorgeous render just changed my mind!

@wgdjohn Haha, might want to warn him anyway lol.  I will definitely be pursuing things further, I keep seeing things and think, Oh, I really like that... but, but...I'm pretty sure I could make that in Carrara myself lol.

I'm sure you either can already or will be able to.  One thing I've been neglecting it to is model at least one new thing a week.  Too busy asking questions in my Animation thread... getting it off the ground, so to speak.  Something you might find useful is my latest thread, Scene Lighting and Atmosphere - Come One & All which I've only started today... AFAIK nearly everything, if not all, can be created with Carrara's Tools/Features alone.  I'm presently gathing my bookmarked forum links together... then off to gather links for YouTube vids.
