Very Cool! The combination of effects really pays off. If you continue to tweak this one I'd rotate the ground prop by 45° or so, it will help hide the tiling. Thanks for the reference Sonja!laugh

The water droplets on the water are from @Marshian 's Heavy Rain for 3Delight.  Two of the smaller splashes by the tentacles are from that prop as well.  The rest was done in photoshop with Ron's brushes and lots of layers. I still need a lot more practice with those brushes but I'm still happy with the way it turned out.

You know I love your stuff!  I will remember to play with the rotation, i'm not sure I'm willing to go change it now, since I have done all the post work but will definitely try that next time around.

Nice work with the kraken!  Those water drops really make the image work.  I see you changed your name.  That'll make it easier to ping you.  :)

Ya I've been meaning to change it for months lol.   And thank you, I thought they really helped with the realism and they were far easier to use than doing them all by hand in Photoshop lol.

Hmmm...aren't all your postwork details on layers above the image in Photoshop?  You can place the new render in the stack of layers immediately above the old render, but below your effects layers.  Then turn the eyeball off on the old layer, and see how it looks.  If you like it, delete the old layer.

Way cool work with that kraken, love the idea with the rain droplets plane to show the spray, and I like that sunset light as well!

Your list of most needed stuff is good, most things I got on mine as well. I'd like to add the growing up for g2 or g3 the the philosphers epic godrays

Yes, I save every couple of steps.  Even easier than re rendering is to just go into the first copy layer and just blend it in.  Probably easier and quicker that way.

It depends on the type of postwork.  If she used the Nik Filters then, she would have to redo that layer completely since is it copies the original and then modifies it into a new layer.  Some effects are nice when mixing more than one Nik Filter layers together.  Any of that type of postwork has to be can't be applied to a new image that has changed drastically like changing camera angle or moving objects in the render.

And I can see I will need to do a category for special effects as well lol.  I will add the growing up ones to the original list though since they are tools used directly on the figures.

I did use NIK filters but I can still go in and gently blend that straight line away.  Shouldn't be too hard

Thank you very much!  I have had him for months but with my sons wedding and everything else going on, I haven't had much time to render.  So I am working on trying out some of the goodies I have got in the last 6 months and see what I can do with them.

Stefania for G8F  - I used SF's new hair shader on her hair, love how it turned out

I also used G3F make up on her. Apparently the make up for the G8's are going to be invisible in the preview render just like HDRI's are.  So, that's a deal breaker for me, I can go through 8, 10,12 make up changes on a character before I finalize a render.  Not being able to see what it looks like in preview, and being forced to use the Iray Preview (which slows down even my PC significantly), is just not worth it.  Its going to increase the time to do a render probably by more than a lot of minutes.  The make up on characters for G8F from other stores shows in the preview window.  So, I guess if I eventually decide to expand the G8F gene pool, it won't be from here.  I feel bad, I like to support as many vendors as I can (and I most certainly have put my money where my mouth is the last 2 years) but its just not worth the aggravation.  I don't want another work around I don't want to have to do even two extra steps.  If you were going to do this, you should have fixed your preview window to show stuff like that. Fortunately, I have a ton of G3 characters, of which all of the make up works just fine on G8 so I can at least still utilize the wonderful expression G8F is capable of.  Hmmm wonder if the make up scripts will work on G8F that are for G3F.. I think I will have to test that out in the next day or two....

Woo hoo my first V4 character transferred to G3F.  I will move her up to G8F this weekend sometime.  This is not her original skin, its a G3 skin.  I just picked up the skin converter for B4 to G3 so I will be trying that this weekend too.  It was not nearly as hard or intimidating as I thought it was.  Many many thanks to Novica for providing the link to the video, super easy to follow, and I just changed the target from Genesis to Genesis 3 female and it worked perfectly.  Here is the post on Novica's page with the directions and link to the video.

Such an amzing job on the water creature image Sonja.

I wish I could get a better grip on my Gimp so I could do touch ups on my renders as well!!

  • IceDragonArtIceDragonArt Posts: 12,548

Thanks @Saphirewild!  Honestly,  the quickest way to learn Gimp (or in my case Photoshop) was to just sit down and play.  push buttons, see what happens. Play with something you don't really care about or just play with the brushes, layers and other buttons on a plain background and see what they do.  I've gone through a couple of times and just did brushstrokes with every brush I own just to see what I had, what it did and hey, what happens if I do this?  You might not get anything great right away but you will have a better understanding of what stuff does and what might and might not be useful to you in the future.  I'm actually getting ready to do the brush thing again, I got a bunch of Ron's brushes and some of the thumbnails don't really give a good idea what its going to do.  So I will go in and try them out on a plain background, maybe in a couple different colors and layered on top of each other in different sizes etc.  Just, fun lol.

    Hi IceDragonArt.

I check this thread frequently but have never posted, so here is my chance to offer a word of appreciation of all that you show and all the ground you cover discussion-wise!  I like so many of your renders.

I seem to recall you buying Poser earlier in the year - if so I hope you fire the program up once in a while because registration - appallingly to my mind - can expire and the program can stop working.

There is a way to register so that this possibility is avoided and I was pointed once to a discussion on the subject but failed to follow up on it.  So I use Poser once every so often while I am online and it seems to be OK.

@ Fishtales:  Those are great pictures of the Sparrowhawk - such dashing and elusive birds.  Your camping spot reminds me of many days out in the Scottish hills but I only went wild camping once in Scotland.

I much appreciate your stopping by! Please, feel free to comment or post anytime!  I am very glad that some of my rambling and somewhat erratic way of learning things is helpful lol! And thank you very much for letting me know that about Poser!  I did not know that and I think it has been several months since I peeked inside the box so to speak. I will make it a point to open it up and try it out a bit more often.

So, as many of you know I moved all of my content on my laptop (and my pc) onto an external hard drive about 7 months ago.  The external drive to the laptop failed last week (although honestly, I had nothing but trouble with that one since I got it.  It was an off brand and I will not go with that brand again.).  So I am patiently waiting for DIM to re download over 5500 files lol.  My pc is fine, I use my laptop to take to work and if I have the flu or something and need to be in bed, so its not critical.  But, if you are going to use an external drive, pay the extra $20-$50 for a good one.

Oh wow, 5500 files! That's going to take a while. lol How long will that take, do you think?

That reminds me, I should probably back up my freebie and rendo files just in case.

I'm sorry to hear about your external drive kicking the bucket. :( What brand was it (so that I can avoid buying it).

The brand is Webmd.  My other one is a Seagate and that's what I got this time around.

And, I started downloading about the time I posted above so 8:40 to 11:50 in three hours it has downloaded 499 files.

Huh.  Just tried the geometry editor.  Ummm I have no idea why I put THAT off for so long....Thats going to be super handy for breaking up materials and stuff.  And yes, I know, i am slow lol.

Just trying out some stuff in my library that I haven't had a chance to try out yet.  This is G8 with G3's Anicinabe morph and skin.  Dark fairy wings. KindredArts Ghostlights are the only lights in the scene. I used both the Hair Lustre shaders by PhilW and the Universal Hair Shaders by SF-Designs to get that white white almost glowing hair.

    Wow, Sonja!  Whatta pain!!

I got a new Alienware Area 51 several months ago, and had to do the same thing; download everything I had ever bought through the store.  It took all day while I was away at work, and I only have about half as much stuff as you!.  I came home, and it was done!  What was even worse for me, though, was stressing out about losing all the freebies I've been collecting for the past 3-4 years.

My old computer is still working, and I go back and forth between them.  I had to put everything on flash drives, and move stuff a little bit at a time; then figure out where everything goes on the new computer.  I'm sure I lost things.

I still haven't reorganized my categories, or developed a decent system where I can find stuff easily. I haven't redone Custom Actions on my new comp yet either.  I did all that once; I know I can do it again.  Just finding the time and motivation...

If anyone can recommend a good system for organizing the inventory, I'm all ears!  Going to all the trouble to organize things, then running the risk of losing everything due to a crash or a new computer upgrade is a major turn off.
