@Knittingmommy its Digital Art Live - How to creat outstanding book covers.

@Dracorn, that arch is actually a mirror lol but, I couldn't get her into the mirror and get it to look right, the room is very small and its round to boot.

@Words_Edge - The little critter is called Mystikoi He is a cutie lol

The winged angel is very nice and would make a lovely cover. I would lighten up the mage because darker images don’t always reproduce well on covers

I agree. It didn't show up well on my phone, either, and I was in a well lit room.

Yes that one is slated for postwork, I wanted the edges to keep the darker details and will lighten the mage and pillar in post.

  • Ah, I thought that might be the one but wasn't sure. I have that one. I really enjoyed it. So far, I've only watched it.  I have to still have to sit down and try some of the techniques and try to work them out in Gimp. I should be doing that soon as I have a cover of my own I need to start working on.

Ya, so far its pretty good.  Just got through the font part and have maybe a quarter of it left to go.  No more procrastination for me lol.

I think I'm going to start a blog on my website, to do reviews of different stuff.  3d, 2d, books, and whatever else happens to catch my fancy.  I am going to try and get it up and running next week. (And thanks go to Greybro for the idea)

  • Another possible book cover.  Still need to watch the text part of the video lol.

@IceDragonArt I love this image! Beautifully done and I think it would make a wonderful book cover.

Okay I have been pretty focused on doing some character testing but I finally sat down and did a quick book cover.  This is not a final draft, comments and advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Original render

    Book Cover test

Well, of course, its not gonna load now.  This drives me crazy and happens far more than it should. and for the record, it loads just fine on every single other site, and it even loads great into the gallery here.. Feel free to have a look at my deviant art site, its in my signature.

    It looks good, Sonja!

You've lightened it up quite a bit.  Great color scheme, too.

Thanks! Hopefully at some point I can get it to load here lol. I had always intended to lighting the center but its easier to lighten parts than it is to darken the edges.  I know how to do it, but sometimes it just doesn't look right.

Finally lol.  And yes it probably is, pretty sure the character is for V4 as well.

I picked up Angelica for g8f today, she ended up being less than $5 I believe.  She is wearing Sexy Sorceress for G3F, I used Dforce on the skirt. I have to say, when Dforce works its a beautiful thing

Wow, this is really nice.  Lovely dForce work, too.

You haven't posted her to your gallery yet - let me know when you do so I can give it a like and a comment.

  • The drape on that skirt looks very nice. Nice image. I love the red highlights on her skin and hair.

@Dracorn, thank you very much! I always forget to put it in the gallery lol, usually because I always seem to finish stuff late at night.  Its there now and thanks for reminding me!

Thanks!  I had to drape the skirt with nothing else on her and the prop.  I added the rest of the clothes and the hair etc, after the drape as it was really struggling.  I've got to remember to use the utility that cuts the textures down (which for the life of me, I can't remember what its called right now!)

I have to say, Marshians rim light rig and KindredArts Ghost Lights and Expansion are just about indespensible for anything I render anymore.  I used the red and white spotlight rig, right behind her and a ghost light panel in front of her and to (my) right, plus one of Sedor's Iray Night Skies.  And changed the emmissive color of the top of the staff to match the red.

Nik filters/ color effect pro has a lighten center/darken edges filter - so you can do both at the same time, works fantastic and has sliders for control of the effects. :)

This is Zyanya for V4.  Anagennisis on her skin - @Marshian 's rim light rig. Full sixe is definitely recommend.  The original is double the size I loaded here.

Very cool image.  She has definitely succeeded in calling forth the protective spirits from the statue to slaughter the trespassing infidels!  I have set aside this week to go through surfaces and lighting tutorials.  Nice to see a rig applied right.

She looks great, Sonja.  Lighting is good, too.

I'm noticing that the texture isn't showing up too well on Wild Dreads.  So I decided to put my money where my mouth is and play around with it and achieved some good results.

    Before

    After

    Here's what I did:

Settings are identical for the surfaces: LowBack, Mid and Top.  I didn't do anything with the cap other than convert it to Iray.

I loaded the Base Color map into Translucency Color.

I loaded the map AHB_displace_locks.jpg into Dual Lobe Specular Reflectivity at 0.50.  Dual Loab Specular Weight = 0.65.

The same map went into Glossy Layered Weight = 0.25, and in Glossy Color, with Glossy Color Effect set to Scatter & Transmit, and Glossy Reflectivity at 1.00, Glossy Roughness 0.20, Glossy Anisotropy at 1.00

Load the same map into Base Bump and change the limit to 10.00 and set it there.

Create a Normal map using AHB_displace_locks.jpg in Photoshop: Filter, 3D Generate Normal Map.  Load it into Normal map and up the limit to 20 and set it there.

Replace Top Coat Weight and Top Coat Color maps with AHB_displace_locks.jpg.

@Dracorn, that does look better!  I don't have a clue what the new stuff in the surfaces tab does, I was just coming to grips with what was there before lol!

I already said that over at dA, this is lovely. I always think that hair is fun :D

I've been playing around with creating custom skins for my characters and am learning a lot about the Iray surfaces.  I look at Victoria 8 plus the PA characters (G3 and G8) and deconstruct them.  I learned so much by looking at how other people did it.  Takes time and LOTS of test renders (some of them are really ugly).
