Good point! And there are some reasons to do that; but it's another mountain to climb. I'm not interested in climbing more mountains right now.

Come on!! The fresh mountain air will do you good and I promise to limit my renditions of the hills are alive with the sound of music to only in the mornings.

Honestly though, there really aren't any direct competitors with Studio. AI is too inconsistent, Reallusion is way too expensive and the content for the figures is much more limited than DAZ ones, Poser is OK if you don't mind taking your renders back to 2006 or so, and you're really not going to just quickly pick up Blender or Unreal as quickly as Studio and make comparable art, not to mention it is a pain in the neck to get materials and certain Studio features (like geoshells and HD morphs) over to them. I have tried a ton of these other options, and I keep coming back to the same conclusion: if you like using Studio now, you're almost certainly going to want to stay with Studio.

  • I just want to know why they release a detailed document about daz premier or a video explaining in depth it. It wouldn't take much time to do it.
i would like to know if the new geometry scuptor can sculpt in hd mesh, if i can split head and body morphs maintaining the hd morphs and the with the shape transfer you can transfer hd morphs.

And what about the blender bridge? Its a new plugin? Its a update from the already existing blender bridge plugin? Can it transfer hd morph and transfer the entire scene with exact settings and position of lights and  camera to blender?

Its just sad they no specified this, but the way the things are going i bet all this new "features" of premier is only for base resolution thats why they make poor a explation of them. And  they had the audacity to remove manfriday plugin from the store.I bet that with the new versions of daz3d you will no longer be able to use the old manfriday plugins. This such di.. move from them. I love daz with all my hearth but they need to stop trying to trick consumers to buy useless things and start creating real useful things like ways of editing hd morphs inside daz, create a real documentation for daz studiobetter cloths for g9, a new render engine, better optimized library and  ui scaling for 4k monitors. And after all that they can create a subscription plan or make daz  only subscription only.

Using Daz Studio doesn't equal giving Daz money which is what any business care about as they need it to stay solvent.

I would imagine Daz cares more about the $ I spend here than whether I use Daz Studio for rendering. I use Daz Studio almost everyday (albeit an older version before it became filled with ads and geared to g9), however I only spent like $8 at the Daz store this year. Up until 2023 I was spending a few thousand here a year, then a few hundred in 2023, to a whopping $8 in 2024. Me using Daz everyday isn't helping it stay afloat, though probably nor is my $8 ;-) Same with Daz+, cancelled it last year and have not regretted it. Blender has so many more features and most are free, it's really depressing to compare what you get with Blender vs what you get with Daz.

It's not to say I haven't spent money on 3D, I'm just not spending it here. Renderosity, Renderotica, and even Renderhub has gotten more of my money this year than Daz. Which is just sad, in a lot of way for what used to be the premiere store for people using the Daz platform sad

If I was Daz I be more worried why long term customers that were big spenders slowly end up not spending money here.

I am a DAZ Plus member and today I downlaod v4.23 64-bit release version through DIM. All the add on bits are v4.22 (default resources, scene builder, template, and interactive lessons).

As for add-ons being updated to the latest version my experience has been (since 2006) that add-ons may get a few features updates and bug/feature fixes after release when new versions of studio are released, but if there are significant new features it gets released as a new version and maybe an upgrade version.

Therefore all the plug-ins you have now should keep working in the future. if you want a newer version of a plugin that is now integrated into Premier DaZ Studio then you will needd a subscription.

If you want to future proof your DAZ Studio and Content, then download the current version through DIM and copy those zip files to a personal folder along with your content zip files. If you are no longer in DAZ world you can install your copy of DAZ Studio and export your content to Blender where you can geo sculpt, re-texture and everything else to your heart's content. Start learning Blender (blender.org) and free yourself from merchant limits.

I have several versions installed and have to work on different versions because some plug-ins/content that I paid good money for fails in some versions. Each version seems to be a give and take and not all give and takes play well with projects.

I will give you that fixes can take a long time and some plug-ins get obsoleted with new versions, BUT I found (personally) that all the plug-ins I have from the last three or four years are all still working. However, I have not done extensive testing to confirm this. I do own atleast 95% of all the plug-ins or tools that have been released in the DAZ store since the intro of version 4. Yes, I own way too many add-ons. laugh

However, you comment brings up a good point. Since DAZ only offers the latest version of a DAZ main version (e.g. DS Version 4, DS Version 3, etc) then it is always a good idea to copy your currnet version of DAZ Studio to a personal folder from your DIM download library and keep a running history of previous versions. You can search your DIM download folder for all items related to 13176 which is the SKU for DAZ Studio 4 Pro ( https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-4-pro ).

If DAZ wants this to work, they need to work with us.  Why not offer those of us with extended DAZ+ memberships something like $5 per month to get the software features while we wait for our DAZ+ memberships to run out?  Sure, we won't get the extra coupons or bundles, but it's better than trying to blackmail us into giving up months (or years!) of current benefits for a month or two of a possibly better deal.

    +1

I would happily pay the $9 per month difference between the current cost of DAZ+ and Premier. However, I am not willing to trade 28  months of DAZ+ for only 3 months of Premier. And the amount I originally paid for DAZ+ is irrelevant; it is the current value of DAZ+ that is important.

I would like to think that DAZ Marketing understands that; but I am just one individual so they probably don't care.

    THIS.

Ugh. Not a cool move. I do have that converter, and I do have the old mesh grabber, and I was very excited for MG4, ready to buy it at release. I hope ManFriday got a good deal from Daz for their products, because this whole affair (including months-long silence without any, even a veiled-one explanation) leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Enough to remove items from my wishlist and add a name to my no-buy list.

Interesting development. Luckily, I've no aspirations to convert any earlier generations to G9 because HD figures can't really be converted from generation to generation. What you wonder could happen, then.

I'm considering the Premier version but to do that, I have to give up my DAZ+ that's good until 3/2026. I'm tight on cash (spend way too much at Daz) and I don't know that I want to give up the DAZ+ I get just yet. I did verify that I have the DAZ+ subscription level at least.

Just when I think I am on top of things, something always comes up. :)

As for the silence from the PA, that is standard in any business negotiations for a company. When DAZ opened negotiatiions with the PA they probably started with an NDA that even discussing that DAZ is considering buy your product is confidential.

Didn't they try this a few years ago with what they called "Season Pass" those who signed up for that got new character swag per month? But you didn't get to see what you were getting for that $$$  That SP kind of died with a whimpered "meep" I want to see the difference between the Free Studio and the Premier version. This whole thing feels like it is probably going to be a re-glossed Season Pass thing, as in...lacking with all the money people spent to get that Pass. The $70/year is now totally toast, replaced with a $10 a month a $50 price hike...and I have to spend $10 to get a token where a free account spends $15 and gets a token, but I've already paid $10-month for the membership, would be nice if we got a golden token, one we have a month to use, add it to ones we've collected, with that $10. I certainly do quite a bit of spending on this site, but I don't do enough in Studio to warrant a hike to pay straight up a $10 or $20-month fee AND purchase stuff.

  • It is a pleasure to pay and add good things.
The same is true of adding options to one's car.

Paying for and improving an inferior part is stress.
The same goes for repairing one's car.

Adding heated seats is a joy.
I don't want to buy subscriptions to use heated seats that are already installed.
I would never buy a stellar car.

I am happy to buy and get new plug-ins.
Having to pay to release features I can't use is a pain.
And it is painful to have to pay for plug-ins that I don't use for a period of time or even for plug-ins that I don't need.

I have not spent tens of thousands of dollars on Daz for the pain.
Pain is pain, even if it is only tens of dollars.

i wonder this too. If they going to keep launch more things to only daz premier we can say goodbye to any decent feature to daz studio free. They take years to launch some good feature to daz studio now that daz premier exists we can expext to see a useful new to feature to daz studio no premier vesion in at least 10 years.

It's DAZ. DAZ is in control, not you or I. But we do control our wallets and protecting the assets I have invested in is my top priority, which is why I stayed up all night to finish manually downloading assets and backing up downloads before any updates happen. Having bought almost 17k of current products and tons of products no longer available and knowing they are available to reinstall if something goes south turns ssd external hardrives into an insurance policy.

They also have to consider the cost of developing their own versions of the plug-in versus buying out a PA. It might not just be about DAZ Studio 4 but what will be integrated into DAZ Studio 5 and how they want to product differentiation between paid version and free version. DAZ Stduio was a paid version, then it was decided that to move away from dependance on Poser that DAZ needed more uptake on the user base of DAZ Studio to drive more sales of DAZ only content.

Many years later DAZ Studio and Poser have bifurcated sufficiently that now there is a DAZ user base and a Poser user base. In that past 2 years they may have done a DAZ Studio development cost analysis and determined that DAZ Studio development, even at a basic features level, is so expensive it needs to be a revenue generating center because its original intent to drive content sales is not having the impact it did during the early Poser/DAZ split.

it might have seemed to those proposing a sales strategy (which I disagree with) that because DAZ Studio has been free it would be difficult to wind back the clock to free and paid. Maybe they think by buring Premier DAZ Studio in a top tier membership they can create a monthly revenue stream for development. As a previous poster mentioned subscriptions often slowdown development because there is no press to release the next vesrion and maintain the 2 year cadence of releases which keep pumping the revenue stream.

Usually the only places subscriptions make sense is when you need to use/consume the product and it is mature, but if everybody does it eventually the herd of subscriptions will thin. Looks at how much the streaming services are struggling because they can not afford to constantly publish A level prodcutions and customers are not eager to pay monthly for re-runs on so many services.

Bottom-line DAZ will have to separate DAZ Studio from membership subscriptions (IMO) if they want paid DAZ Studio product adoption. It will take some time for them to figure this out. Look at all the ventures they have tried in the past 2 years. They are trying to figure out how to mainatain revenue growth as well as stay relavent with all the new software and technologies coming into the marketplace.

I just think they have a terrible way of trying things out and it really hurts their reputation in the long run. I don't know if it is bad marketing or bad management, but the shareholders need to clean things up at DAZ. Desparate strategies never look good on a company.

    THIS.

    Yes, THIS!

I think the rule in business negotiations is 'you should almost never accept the first offer'.

An alternative suggestion would be to allow people to try out Premier WITHOUT having to trade in their Daz+ subscriptions at all.  And 100% agree that it's the number of months that matter, not how much you paid for those.

By my calculations, the deal offered to me (2 months) is about half what I paid for said Daz+ subscription renewals, and of course this does NOT take into account any prerequisite items that I may have needed to purchase to get a lower price for said Daz+ membership renewal, items that I may never actually use...

And, as noted it should be the number of months that matter, not the amount spent, as others have said.  I'd rather see a 'pay extra for Daz Premiere' than 'trade in' my Daz+ subscription.  $10 a month sounds fair to me for 'trying out' Daz Premiere while my Daz+ membership is still active/not expired yet, as I tend to not buy a whole lot these days to begin with - last month aside.  And the main reason I spent as much as I did was because a few Renderosity vendors that moved over here were part of the PA sale, and I now have most of the relevant items that I had previously wishlisted over at Renderosity thanks to last month's sale.

So I guess it's Daz+ for me, and once that subscription expires, I'm probably going to curtail my spending here to almost nothing, unless something changes between now and then.  Which is too bad, the deals I was seeing last month actually weren't too bad, not the best ever or anything, but good enough to rekindle my shopping interest.  So far, this year's fall Daz+ sale is not wowing me.  I still hate the tokens thing though, I still maintain that this punishes longtime customers that have most of what they need already, and hence spend less per month, and also people with smaller budgets for their Daz hobby, although increasing the expiration date of tokens to two weeks does help a tiny bit.

Keep in mind, for many of us that have been loyal customers for years or decades, with extensive Daz Studio libraries, paying $10/month for Daz+ isn't as worthwhile to us.  Which is one reason that we often waited for Daz+ yearly memberships to go on sale, as $30-$40 a year was still sufficiently worthwhile to us for the associated benefits, whereas $70/year was not.  The $6 off of $18 coupon still requires that you spend at least $12, so it's really just an item with a higher discount, not a 'free' item.  I've skipped using said $6 off of $18 coupon a few times as the offers for that month simply were too rich for my tastes/spending comfort level.  The $6 off DO coupon, well you still spend money for said item as it's pretty hard to find a DO for exactly $6, and you may often end up grabbing some older item that you may or may not use as it's a 'use or lose' coupon situation.

Most of the freebies I end up with from here via the weekly and monthly freebie offers, I never use, so they hold less value for me.  Particularly all of those plants. A few plants is fine, but there's a point when...

In any case, it's a moot point.  Unless enough people 'bail' that Marketing notices that they've disappointed a LOT of customers, well I guess we'll see.

Very true. DS is still the best for quality simple character work. However I have used Blender for quite a number of animations and model creation, so the curve wouldn't be quite as steep for me. I'd rather continue to use DS, but the fact that I can't fix my borked installation of the Beta, and the total lack of anyone at DAZ wanting to even talk about helping,me, leaves a pretty bad impression. In fact it has resulted in fewer purchases, and affected my personal opinion of the company in general.

Yes, they seem to try something ill-advised like this every couple of years, and yet despite all the times that they've failed spectacularly, they persist in the belief that dumping things like this on people with no warning is by far the best way to endear themselves to their customers.

I was fine with DAZ Studio 4.1 or whatever I was using. Then they upgraded some of the stuff like Figure Metris and made it only work with DAZ Studio 4.22. So I got that so my things would work again and I'm stuck with that darn splash screen with the ads on it, and the thing asking me what file I want to load when I tell it to start a new file. I don't want anymore forced upgrades that lead to more advertisements. I'm just not going to update anything from now on.

I'm happy to stay with what I have and maybe extend my workflow into AI and/or Blender. If DAZ keep the basic DAZ Studio free then I'll probably be using it - even in ints present form - for years to come. I have not gone for G9 but I would have been interested to see what DS5 looks like. If it is a subscription package then it will have to be simply awesome to tempt me.

[EDIT] ... Ah, I must have missed the bit where DAZ Studio 4.23 is subscription only. Guess that's the beginning of the end for my 20 year relationship with DAZ.

Uh... WHAT?  Where did you see that? I just looked at the blog page and watched their promo and it didn't say that anywhere.

Also, I guess MG4 really is going into it, along with Friday's render queue it looks like?  I'm willing to try premiere out to see if I like it, but it may not offer me much that I can use.  I'm just afraid that half my stuff will become unuseable if I do upgrade.  Seems like every new version breaks everything.

I hope the basic version of DS keeps all nessesary tools, but this all sounds absolutly terrible for what the future will bring. I was so excited when I saw the 25th birthday banner, but all I get from this announcement is "Milk the cow". I'm fine with spending money for models and I left a LOT of money at the Daz store, but at some point it's enough. It's a tragedy that after 25 years we suddenly have to pay €20 a month to continue to be able to use the basic software to its full extent. Happy Birthday...frown

Nothing has been taken away from the free version. Paying for the Premier membership gives you access to extra tools which are currently paid-for plugins.

what sucks is that the plugins are now marked inactive. I have the one that changes g2-g8 to g9 and it is inactive. They should at least give us the option of still purchasing at least but it appears they're trying to force us to but the premiere product.

The new tools did show up and were operable in Daz earlier today after I upgraded to 4.23.  Now they have all mysteriously vanished.

Don't feel bad.  I got a 2 mth offer for my personilized offer...my DAZ Plus expires  2026-06-19

Don't forget (and I think peeps have...)  That by upgrading to Premier... you/we will be loosing out on 6.00month FREE Daz content for the number amount of months left... I have 12 months... so 12x6.00 =  72.00... am I right?  for a month or two of 10.00 content. I'm gonna wait out my 12months as Daz+... I don't wanna loose 72.00!

Daz Original content and artist content. 2x $6 a month if you spend both of your coupons (I always do, which for me would mean losing 13x $12 of discounts, or $156).

Oh yes.. forgot about the other 6.. so for me too... not worth the change over... YET... to be honest... unless they offer a yearly I will probably give up my Daz next year :(  We shall see :)
