gbloodworth2 post moved from: Installing, activating, and accessing Daz Studio Premier features.
It took me two days to read through this thread with everything I have to do. I did post in the DAZ+ forum I am not happy.
During the past few years I have seen increases in rent, internet, phone all go up by $200.00/month since Covid. Food and gas are finally going down, especially if I drive for 40 minutes each way to the Military Commissary. I have had to trim my 'fun' purchases to accomadate this.
Daz3d is something I picked up in 2016 because I moved into an apartment where carpet was everywhere and I had no place to spread out my 2d art supplies or quilting things, or even bring them into the apartment. Someone showed me Poser, but I didn't like it. Then someone else showed me Daz 4.7, it clicked. My first purchases were without PC+ in the early days of G3. Bought into PC+ after buying Lee7's Pro Bundle at full price. PC+ was good to me. Bought a LOT of content. Now at G9 and Daz 4.22 and dealing with multiple platforms, Win 10, Win 11, MacOS Sonoma and DAZ+.
This year my purchases have gone down. I use DAZ Deals, and find many of the sales come up blank, or the bundles are things I already own, like those 'new' character bundles offered this week. I have not used my coupons many months, just not found a way to use them. I do look at the free monthly/weekly free items, picking up mostly the shaders, sets, and landscape items. I am backlogged with characters to test, and scripts to learn.
I am not thrilled where the store's offerings have led to. I don't need clothing that is comprised of triangles and strings, dog collars, or other bondage wear that demeans people. I am not into sexually explicit renders. Like many others on the forums, I have expressed my desire for historically accurate clothing and sets. And especially more real clothing for men that is not tubes, swimwear, shorts, or converted female outfits.
So I have spent less. I have also looked at the sales less. (This is compared to what I used to spend.) I see the morning sales page covered in sex wear and I flip to the forums. Unless someone points out something specific, I don't bother going back for the day. This is me, I understand there is an audience for this. But it is driving me away, like it did from scanning Renderosity.
This new subscription format, I own the offered plug-ins already, couldn't even use one of them. The only one I wanted, Mesh Grabber 4 is now merged into the new paywall version of D|S.
My biggest question for Daz is: Must we turn on Daz Connect to use 4.23?
I ask this because everytime I have done that, it has destroyed my Smart Content's metadata that I have corrected to reflect the correct category where something should be, not just dumped into a 'General' category because someone was too busy to sort out a hundred props on a new set or even ten items.
Now if Daz could focus on metadata being able to be fixed so that we can at least correct a mess and clear out garbage that is released, I would be grateful. Right now, only my old Win 10 laptop still has this capability.
Not sure if I will upgrade to Premiere or not. I haven't bought into Photoshop either. But I am to Marvelous Designer.
Overlong explanation of where I am with you all, but I am trying to be honest. This post may be culled, so be it. It is where I am at now.

For the subscription-locked content, what happens if any of it is rendered inactive? Currently, if I've purchased something, even if the vendor leaves or Daz stops selling the item, I can still download and use it. But in the subscription-based content future Daz is rolling out, what happens to the content when for whatever reason (as we're never told the reason) something subscription-based is removed from the store? Even Daz Original items have been removed from the store at points, so we can't rely on the assurance that subscription items will be Daz O products.
Yep, they are back this morning.
no sorry doesn't look like it mine runs out soon and the only renew option for daz + showing on my page is monthly which also brings up when is each next months payment taken out like end of each month or 3rd week of each month
Can we get confirmation from DAZ that there's no difference between the standard and the premier export tools?
The blog lists export tools as standard, but the premier info page says that they're part of premier.

I am so disappointed to see Mesh Grabber 4, that many of us have been waiting for for months, has been swallowed up by this. I do not feel that I use Studio enough to justify spending $26 CDN a month on the subscription to get that plug-in. (No knock on the vendor, we all need to do what we have to do to be able to afford groceries these days.)
Pleasantly surprised by how fast the bug with my Membership Management page was fixed: I opened a ticket around 2PM here (four hours ago so) and looking at my account right now, everything is at it should.
I don't know if it's because a wider fix has been deployed or if someone manually fixed just my situation, but if you still have a bugged account status, tickets for this problem seems to be solved fast (from my very limited experience of course, because I only have one account).
Classic Daz. It's not even frustrating anymore.
Given DAZ history, this rollout was even one of the better. It is amazing how resistant to feedback people can be.
Anyone with the 'Contact Support to Upgrade' note on their Membership page ever hear back from support?
Good point.
Since I have joined DAZ, I have spent $56k+ and have bought new releases as well as old stuff for toon NPR renders. That is an average of $8k+ a year, and I'm not the only one paying for software or salaries. We all do. And, I have never seen such a drastic change unfold in such a poor, ambiguous manner. For me I want to know how this affects the software and future releases of software and tools I pay for. I asked several questions on page 19, asking for a response from someone in the know, a DAZ representative, but all they seem to want to talk about are the tokens and freebies and the price, not about how locked in we will be. In Adobe, psd were useless if one quit the software. Now I believe gimp has psd capability. However Adobe has been very transparent and allowed me to renew a 2020 plan every year because I do not want ttheir AI. And in return I renew the entire Suite and Substance but hardly use anything but pPhotoshop and they know that thru tracking. Each year I know what exactly I am signing up for and I talk to a rep if I don't. Ironically I spend much more here and can't get an anwser from anyone from DAZ to the questions I posted a few pages back. I may just use the forums as a resource I am addicted to the DAZ dogs and I do have 8 tokens and a $192.00 credit but this girl is not buying any more gift cards because this girl is planning to resort to Base upon DAZ+ expiry, keep an eye out for free stuff here, if any, and take my business elsewhere.
Probably someone else already asked this, but I don't have the strenght to search along the whole forum...
If I convert a figure using the Premier tool, I'm allowed to use that converted figure if I don't keep the subscription? Or it will stop working along with the plugin? A more backward compatibility is planned (namely, support for G1 and G2 F/M figures)?
About the Render Queue, it can render image sequences in 3Delight and Filament? Or it's binded only to IRay?
The Blender export works on anything or only on few G9 Figure morphs?
Geometry Sculptor is in the Tools menu, at the bottom.
I am concerned about the same thing.
If when I stop my subscription, the projects I have produced up to that point will no longer work, then I feel unsafe using a subscription.
I really don't want to be too negative. I feel sad that I missed out on the chance to extend my yearly DAZ/PC+ for the typical discount earlier this year, since I probably won't extend it to a month-to-month, 3X as expensive version.
In terms of my own thinking, if DAZ is going to offer a new higher-end subscription, then I would recommend putting inarguable value in it. For instance, $20/month for access to every DAZ Original in the store, and some normal discounts on PA items. Other large resource libraries have plans like this. Then also, the difference between tiers would be simple to evaluate for the prospective customer. One tier is a "discount" tier (DAZ+) and one tier would be "subscription" to the content (Premier).
And, IMO, if they need to charge for Studio, then please just charge for Studio separately - and compete at the level of paid software. (Remembering that UE & Blender are free.) DaVinci Resolve has a free fully-functional version, and paid perpetual license for a Pro version for access to workflows you really only need if you are a pro. I could imagine buying something similar for DAZ if high-end tools or integrations were part of it. With no disrespect to the plugins, they offer functionality that probably should already exist in the base software.
i mean this all constructively, i love DAZ and have been here since 2011.
Tafi-Canada is a different legal entity from DAZ in Utah. It has its own operating budget and is targeted at markets different from the DAZ Store.

Are there any policies on having two accounts? After letting everything settle for a while, I'm wondering if it might be worthwhile having a second account to dip in and out of a Premier sub while keeping my 16 months of Daz+.
I'd love that too, but people would still complain that you lose access to the content if you unsubscribe.
another question. If joining Premiere, do the items you get, like the free bundle, or anything else other than the Studio enhancements, go away if you stop the subscription?
A few pages back, Daz_Steve said you keep anything like that, it's just the exclusive stuff for Premiere members that you lose access to. So no worries, you're not losing anything you buy with a coupon and the like.
You'll keep anything that a non Premier member can buy.
In other word, you'll only lose the exclusive plugins and exclusive contents (which will apparently appear with the next Daz bundle) if you stop being a Premier member.
You can't compare DAZ and Adobe. DAZ' revenue is about $30 million/year, Adobe's revenue is $25+ billion/year.
DAZ Studio base is free, and you can use it forever. A Photoshop subscription is $20 month - same price as a DAZ Premier subscription. Cancel your Photoshop subscription, and you have no Photoshop anymore - no base version to fall back to, as with DAZ Studio.
The only regret I might have with DAZ is that I've purchased 10 times as many products as I'll ever be able to use, but that's my own choice. I think I have spent $60.000+ over 15 years - 22.000+ products currently. That's a little more than $3 in average per product. I won't call that overpriced. A lot of it is outdated now, but purchasing it has helped keeping the PAs going and improving over the years so we can have the quality products we have today.
As far as I know the conversions don't depend on the plug-in, so that would not matter. Only things thata re actiuvely dependent on the tool would be unusable.
As long is it was just a separate option, and it was clear that you could always still purchase a full license to things you were subscribed to, I think it could be attractive. Plus, then they could do the thing of appealing to bigger entities, with Individual, Commercial, Enterprise subscription licenses - the last tier could include team seats and interactive licenses, for instance. To be clear, I'm only suggesting this in addition to existing options to purchase content & licenses individually.
In general you're only allowed to have one, I was told, but you may be allowed to have an extra if you have a good reason (I was allowed to have one for testing, as I've been writing software that collects account data from the store).
