So, loaded G9 Mikey then set his head and body morphs to zero. The added the head and body morphs for the G9 Toon Adult male.

Another experiment with using FilaToon on an older Poser figure, this time Himeko by BillyT!

As much as I love how this model looks, her facial morphs are a bit difficult to use. I had to render this in two passes, one for each eye, due to the winking and eye movement morphs clashing.

I'm very proud of the lighting in this one.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get shadows from the hair and on the neck? Even with cast shadows turned on I do not get shadows from the hair nor on the neck. If you look at my Chibi-Bel image, I'd expect to see that and shadows from the skirt.

Never mind... I've apparently been having issues with the deep map shadows on my lights, which appears to be working now. I would get no shadows when it or the other option was selected. Now to retry a couple of renders...

Edit -- the Filament Atmosphere Blur product was the problem. I had used it on the Minion image, and what I've learned is if the subject is in the dome, the shadow type from the distant light works in reverse. I had to set the shadow type to None in order for the shadows to appear. Thought I'd throw that out there if someone else attempted the same thing and wonders why turning on the deep shadow maps appear to turn off the shadows.

Ah yes, that makes a lot of sense. When I use Filament Atmosphere products, I apply the "constant" Filatoon preset to them and turn off receive & cast shadows, to stop them from messing with the shadows like that.

I was trying my hand at some custom face textures for G9 toon and messing around with the Draw Settings some more. Love the possibilities! heart

That's gorgeous! I love the monochromatic look you're able to get too. Your scenes are set up with lovely composition, contrast, and clarity (the three Cs we're taught in art class). Nicely done!

I agree, looks amazing and gorgeous, and good to know about three Cs.

I've been experimenting with shadows and you can get interesting hatching-like effects with Shadow Type PCSS by lowering the Shadow Polygon Offset Slope to negative values.

Wow! Now Filatoon is eating Sketchy Toon's lunch as well!

3Diva Thank you very much! heart I shifted the texture colors more to greens that would work for the scene, then tweaked Draw Settings to create a more uniform feel. It's really good for that and flexible for creating a more custom color look. Love that aspect! smiley

That's a great discovery and experimentation! yes I had noticed before that Shadow Type VSM gives a more smudged textured look suited to certain styles, but hadn't explored it further. Just had to try out your PCSS tips - and wow, some really crazy effects happen! Very cool! laugh

It was a fun discovery for sure! The only thing is you need to render pretty large and then scale the image back down - otherwise, it's just a mess. lol Thankfully, though, rendering with filament takes just a second or two, even if the render is huge. That's one of my favorite parts I think - that it's nearly instant rendering! :D

It's gotten chilly here and the leaves are turning beautiful colors. I was inspired to do an Autumn fairy. Made with: Toon Generations 2: https://www.daz3d.com/toon-generations-2-essentials-for-genesis-3

Can confirm ordinary LIE works just fine with Filament/Filatoon as well.

Another one I've done. Still can't get decent ground shadows though so just did 2 renders. Until Filatoon handles shadows better I'm finding it a bit limited.

SapphireBlue, very well done! I can see your Dreaming render become part of a music video or album cover.

3Diva, I like that fairy you shared. Is the water color texture a feature of FilatToon? Nice touch!

One of my challenges is getting a consistent style with the hair.

I want several characters to be in a scene for example, and to have their hairs look sort of consistent in shading and appearence. Even with the premade toon hairs are quite variable in shading and quality so they don't er... Match so to speak.

I've been messing around with recoloring older hairs but with inconsistent results.

I recommend making use of Diffuse Overlays within Filatoon - that's helped me a lot with hair. I'm not sure if it will help you but it might be worth trying. :)

Thank you! I'm not sure what watercolor texture you mean, but I use custom Filatoon presets that I've made (that I'll be releasing with my Filatoon product - assuming Daz3D accepts it), and some of those (like some of the background shader presets) can give a bit of a watercolor effect, IMO. :)

Just playing... laugh BTW, is there a clone for V4 to G9 for auto fit? I only have Genesis and up.

That is super cute! Nicely done! As for the clones, if you have a clone for V4 to any of the other Genesis figures, you can leap frog it to G9. A product like one of these:

    https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-clothing-converter-from-victoria-4-to-genesis-8-female

    https://www.daz3d.com/sy-victoria-4-and-michael-4-clones-for-genesis-8

That can get it to G8, then you can autofit to G9 by having both a G8 and G9 in the scene. Load the clothes onto G8 then autofit them to G9.

Or you can go from G3 to G9:

    https://www.daz3d.com/wear-them-all-autofitting-clones-and-clothing-smoothers-for-genesis-3-female-s

    https://www.daz3d.com/wear-them-all-autofitting-clones-and-clothing-smoothers-for-genesis-3-male-s

You could even go back as far as V3 M3 A3 to G3: https://www.daz3d.com/wear-them-all-autofit-clones-expansion-for-genesis-3-male-s-and-genesis-3-female-s

Then from there to G9 since G9 comes with clones for G1, G2, G3, and G8.

As long as you can get the clothing item onto any of the past-generation Genesis figures, you can then get it onto G9.

With this script, you can create V4 clone for Genesis 9.
This script uses Victoria 4, Michael 4, and The Kids 4 clones included in Genesis (the first) as templates to create V4, M4, and K4 clones for Genesis 9.
