A comic style render of the Tomb Raider herself, Lara Croft. Legend outfit converted by Shinteo, Leah character by PedroFurtado. The LUT texture used for the shading is the same one I used in my recent Tifa render. https://www.daz3d.com/gallery#gallery=all&sort=newest&page=1&image=1353778
Daz has struck gold with FilaToon, finally some support to this fantastic style.
Good job Daz Studio people!
WOW! That animation came out SO GOOD! Well done! That's really fantastic work!
.@TheNathanParable That Lara Croft render came out really cool - I like the warm tones contrasted by the cool fog.
@thefoodmage I agree that it's great to see NPR support and with such an amazingly fast render engine too! Don't get me wrong, photorealistic renders are great and they will always be something I enjoy, but there's something so fun to me about NPR renders. They really put a smile on my face!
Thank you very much.
I would really like to adjust it more, but DazStudio's interface makes it too much of a hassle to give up.
There are no control handles on the key graph, so if I don't input the correct answer from the first move, fine tuning later on is a big hassle, and sometimes I can't fully adjust it even if I take the time and effort.
It is a very regrettable tool.
Despite the problems you have mentioned, @Space Jingoroh, the video looks great.
Another nice achievement.
I am still debating is it better to use FilaToon for single/double figure scenes
or more complicated scenes with the environments.
Alright, i've started experimenting proper with creating something inspired by my old Visual Style shaders, re-using the same colours and trying to emulate the same settings. Due to the lack of ambient occlusion options with FilaToon, i'm trying to emulate that soft shading effect using a simple MatCap texture. It's subtle, but I like the effect.
OH that looks very pretty! And it does emulate the original Visual Style Shaders look quite nicely! :D
Thanks! I've decided against using LUTs for this, as from my experiments LUTs don't seem to have any effect on casted shadows (like in my Tomb Raider render, if LUTs worked the way I was expecting them to, the shadows cast from her jaw and hair would be more purple to match the LUT).
One of my favorite things about Filatoon is that it breathes new life into the older figures. This is the Star! Original Figure https://www.daz3d.com/star-original-figure with my custom Filatoon shaders.
3Diva That's a fantastic render! Your shaders are looking really good.
I'm also excited that older figures, props and things can now find new uses.
Open question to anyone who might be able to answer. I've only tried applying the FilaToon shaders to G8 a couple of times, but it took a ridiculous amount of time to apply it to the figures and wearable assets. I don't know if I was just working with a corrupted file or something. I have a lot of G8 figures but also a lot of G9, so I don't think it's the library size. Is it supposed to be as quick to apply FilaToon shaders to other generations as it is to G9?
I definitely have noticed the same behavior, and posted about it a while back in this thread:

Others responded with similar experiences.

Thanks Greg! Now I remember coming across your post and 3Diva's comment. I hadn't tried things out a lot yet, so I totally forgot about the post.
That's a shame - I hope they come up with a fix, and maybe G8 toon figures like someone suggested. I think I should measure my times too - maybe it might be close to the 93 seconds you mentioned, but I swear it felt like 5 minutes or more for every single thing in the scene... lol. I was ready to throw in the towel each time...
Yeah, Pre G8 figures are perfect for it, because lips, nails, nipples, the different parts of the eyes all have their own material zones. You can get away with minimalist texturing that way, and it looks fantastic.
Another tip, check the freebies. They often give away older hair model that will autofit to newer figures and play very well with Filatoon!
Thank you! :D That's very nice of you to say! I'm really loving seeing everyone's work with FilaToon! And yeah, most of the older figures do look really nice with Filatoon, IMO. I'm enjoying using those older assets again!
@vrba79 Good tip! And yeah, I agree that the older stuff does lend itself well to the NPR look. :D With Filatoon it's so easy to blend the old and the new together in a scene.
And if it looks a tad low-poly you can just add a subdivision layer and you're golden!
@3Diva and @TheNathanParable - I am so excited to see what you folks come up with Can't wait!
Awesome! Thank you so much for the encouragement and for the support - I'm working on the tutorial and promo imagery. With luck I'll be submitting it soon. :)
Are you talking about actual new toon shaders for filament or presets for Filatoon.
New shader presets using the FilaToon shader as a base, not a completely new shader. Kind of like the Altern8 skin shader system but for FilaToon. I'm still not very good with the shader mixer. lol
Another trial of UltraScenery 2 rendered with FilaToon.
For the transmapped leaves PBR Masked Treshold set to 0.12 does not help much.
Thanks for that tips, @3Diva.
I have forgotten about these cutout opacity slots.
Went through my old Poser library and dug out this classic freebie anime figure, Kururu by Mato, along with the Hatsune Miku freebie outfit by casiopea.
As someone who's been a Miku fan since 2007, this was a joy to make. FilaToon really helps to breathe new life into these classic anime models!
FUN FACT: The hand closest to the camera is actually scaled much larger than the other, to help exaggerate the forced perspective.

Cool tip for the hand.. i might try that on this horror scene i was working on for halloween.
