@Knittingmommy Congratulations! laugh Where do you publish. My friend and myself have our first novel in the works, and neither of us know the first thing about how to get it published.

I publish direct with Amazon on their KDP platform. I use their KindleUnlimited program which means ebooks are exclusive with them. If you are going to publish direct and not interested in using KindleUnlimited for more exposure, I'd publish wide using an aggragate like Draft2Digital. If you aren't sure of your niche or where the audience is, I'd consider using Amazon and their KindleUnlimited program at least once. Amazon has a large audience and they know how to sell books. Going with their KU program means being exclusive for ebooks only for a 90 day period. You can renew or unsub from the program once those 90 days are up.

Some niches do really well wide and some do better in KU. You have to really know your niche and where your readers are to determine that. Message me in private if you wish to talk more. I'd be happy to talk to you about indie publishing.

    Thanks for the tips.

That's really adorable.  I think the subtle colors really make such an impact. She's such a cutie!

I managed to take some time to play with a few new toys from that other store. I can highly recommend PaperTiger's HDR lights. I picked up the Paper Tiger's Evolution HDRI Lights and I love them already. So far, they look great straight out of the box and I didn't have to do any postwork to the figure itself. Most of the post iw adding the textures and gears.

Here's what she looked like straight out of DS. I saved as a .png so I'd have a transparent background:

That's really nice. I like the grungy background. Nice contrast between the grunge and the soft colors.

ETA: Link! I had to go looking for the image in the Galleries to give it thumbs up…

When I saw the birthday thread for Vicky, I couldn't resist pulling out my earliest figures. This one is Victoria 4.2 using the base morphs and the materials from Rapture for Victoria 4. I modified the surface settings for Iray. I think I still need to do some tweaking, but the skin looks pretty decent. I think I need to work on the translucency or something. It's just not quite right yet. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Rapture is a really pretty character, but wow, she's not one to be messed with! laugh This is one of those ladies that come with one V4 version and one G1, right? I think I have one or two of her "sisters." Her boots are wicked cool!

  • KnittingmommyKnittingmommy Posts: 8,191

@TigerAnne Yes, she is. I used the V4 version, but there is a Genesis option as well. I just love the look about her. I'm still tweaking her skin for Iray so I'll be rendering her again. This render isn't great, but it's the best I've gotten her skin in Iray so far. I'll fix my post so there's a link to her product page. Looks like I forgot to do that.

The boots came with the outfit and are from Black Kitty by Pretty3D. I love the dress, but I mostly bought the outfit for the boots. I have this thing about boots. I don't know. I think I might own every thigh high boot in the Daz store. :)

I picked up a new cyborg, GYN-01 and had a chance to set up a render. I really love @daveyabbo's cyborgs. I don't know if he visits the forums or not, but if he does, I'm a fan! So here's my little render. This took more postwork than I normally do. Hopefully, I did okay with it. This is my first time using @KindredArts Iray FireWorx product and I have to say it's fabulous. Very easy to use and renders wonderfully.

I don't get as much time to play in Daz Studio as I'd like these days, but it's nice to go in an play when I can. I made a few modifications to GYN-01 so she isn't rendered straight out of the box. That nice bullet hole came from another product and so did her eyes. I also played with the morphs on her face a little for a more unique figure.

I've got most of @daveyabbo's catalog, but not this one yet - enjoy their work, too (this one is no exception). Great perspective/DOF on this action shot!

    Thanks @Mollytabby! Much appreciated.

@algovincian Thanks! They do great work, don't they? I couldn't resist picking this one up. I'm working on a render with one of the other cyborgs I have as well. We'll see if I do it justice. I like how the DOF turned out on this one. I think I spent about half an hour just getting it the way I wanted. It was a lot of trial and render. It's the one thing the nVidia previewer doesn't do that would be extremely useful. I'm pretty pleased with the results.

Coming out of my writing cave for a short time. Camp Nanowrimo is almost over so I should be able to spend more time in the forums soon. I did have a chance to play in Daz for a little bit. I've been experimenting with few processing techniques for a possible childrens book. I don't know if I'll actually make a picture book, but it's fun playing with new techniques. I broke out some old stuff for this one. I  used The Kids 4, Morphlet, morphs for the Kids 4 which are no longer available. Such a shame because they are a very cool set of morphs. They are by Capsces Digital Ink. The skin I used was from Kaelyn for Kids 4 which is still available in the store. It's a great skin that has a very soft look to it. It was perfect for the look I was trying to achieve.

I was going for a vintage feel with only the slightest amount of color. I processed the whole image with some vintage filters via the NIK Collection (free version from Google) and then put the original image which was just the girl on a transparent background back onto the final image. I kept the image in normal mode and dialed the opacity way down until I had just the amount of color I wanted.

I like how it turned out.

Thanks, @dracorn. The little girl was fun to do. It's been a while since I pulled out the old Mophlets morphs which I don't think are available anymore which is a shame. The Chubblies are still available so I'm not sure why the Morphlets aren't. I should break out the Chubblies and the mil baby and do a render sometime.

As for the steampunk girl, to be honest, I really liked how she came out of DS, too. I've gotten much better at good renders without postwork over the years. The new lightset is amazing to work with, too. However, I was trying my hand at doing some steampunkish stuff with the postwork and that's what I ended up with. It's definitely outside what I would normally do, but I think she turned out okay. As for the original render, well she's a great figure that has great skin to work with. Just gotta love Mousso's girls. I really love how Emery renders.

That's good since that was what I was aiming for. :) I'm getting better at gritty. My action scenes still need work, but I've seen improvemnt in my skills where that is concerned so that's a good thing.

I did a quick render last night with Catgirl. Relatively, I played with dials for a long time working on her morphs before I actually rendered her out. Overall she was a fast render though. I like how she turned out. Minimal postwork here. I posted her in the Catgirl thread last night but I didn't get her posted here until now. I'll have to do a full scene with her soon now that I've made her. I want to explore the other texture options for Catgirl, too. There are a lot of them.

@dracorn I saw your comment about the dForce application on my gallery page for the steampunk girl. Just thought I'd say thank you, but that wasn't me. The dress actually comes with five really nice pre-draped/pre-dForced clothing poses with matching poses for Genesis 8. It's a really great dress. I didn't have to work too hard to set this one up. Mostly, I only had to adjust the hands a little to keep them from sinking into the steamer trunk she's sitting on since I wasn't using a base Genesis 8 model.

There are morphs that come with the dress to give the impression of tightness for the clothes (morphs to push in the breasts and push the stomach over the waistline a little), but those I haven't figured out how they work yet. So far, everything I've tried hasn't done anything.

Mousso rocks!  He/she creates some of the most realistic characters.  I have lots of them.

After looking at your render of the cat girl, I may revisit picking her up.  She seemed too toonish for me, but your render is a great example.  I did see your comment about how you morphed her quite a bit, and that really complements the texture of her face.  I had my own ideas about creating a feline character (some day when I learn Blender and all the stuff I say I'm going to do).  One thing that stumped me was how to create a realistic fur texture.  I see this is done well here.  Sometimes I buy characters/products to see how they are made.

Great render by the way.  I really like the way she turned out.

Great render by the way.  I really like the way she turned out.

Thanks! I wasn't too sure how it would look when I bought it. As you say, most of the renders were kind of toonish, but I think that's the nature of that type of character. The earlier products it was based on were all in the toon realm. I wanted to see how it shaped up in a more realistic look. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. I've been thinking of updating my Sadie Jaguar character and if I can get the morphs to transfer well to G8, I might see how she looks with this product.

It took a lot of morphing to get the look I wanted for her. In the end, I was very happing with my spin dialing. Things I adjusted were:

    Genesis 8 Female Head Morphs
    Nose Bridge Height
    Nose Ridge Width
    Nose Tip Height
    Nose Wing Arc
    Nose Wing Height
    Nose Wing Volume
    Nose Wing Width

    Eyes Pupil Slit

    Lip Lower Depth

    RareStone's Face Morphs
    RS Nose Tip smaller (100%)

    EJ's Teeth Collection
    EJ Sabre Teeth Upper (100%)

Alternative Jaws and Teeth for Genesis 8 Female
Playing with the dials got me some slightly sharper teeth

    Thistle
    Thistle Cat Nose 1

HFS Ultimate Shapes for Genesis 8 Female
    HFS Head 17 Cat (15.5%)

I think you could get buy with just the Genesis 8 head morphs and the HFS Ulitmate Shapes and still get a good cat. The Thistle nose dialed in all the way and the HFS cat head just partially dialed in gave me the looke I was going for. I was looking for a morph in the Genesis Head Morphs to dial the nose tip smaller but couldn't find one which is why I went with the RareStone one. I had it and it really helped to get that flatter shorter cat nose. Depending on the look you want, you can totally not use this if you don't have it.

I think you could simply go with just the HFS Head morphs if you have it. I only added Thistle's nose because it was perfect for the look I wanted. That's all I used was her nose, not the head morph.

My base figure was a Mousso girl, Queenie, which I left dialed in at 100% before I started playing with morphs. You can always use the female base of your choice for a nice variety.

Whew! Now that I have everything written down that I used, I'll have to update my gallery image with products.

As for Mousso's girls, I try to pick up one or two every time they go on sale at a good price. I'm afraid to admit just how many of them I have. :)

I've been determined to get better at using LineRender9000. It can do so much, but I've always had problems with the compositing stage in post. I actually know what to do with all those layers now that I've learned a lot more about postwork and canvases and how to play with all the different layers. I thought I'd go back and spend my Sunday seeing what I could do since it was raining all day. What do you think?

Callie 6 is the figure I started with, but I did some dial spin magic so she doesn't look like Callie 6 anymore. I also used a different skin which I liked better.

My first test render of AM's Gorilla. I couldn't resist since he was a DO and I could use a coupon on him to make him cheaper. He's a handsome fellow. This is just a test. He has dark eyes which are a bear to try and render so you can still see them. I need to work on my lighting. Next render will be him in the wild to see how he looks with the Sun/Sky mode.

I'm up in the air about the new Teen Jane character. I haven't decided if I'll pick her up at some point or not. It won't be right now. I did, however, fall in love with Sara for Teen Jane 8 by @Cherubit. I don't have very many products by this vendor, but that might change if they put out more characters like this. Her skin looks awesome. I have a weakness for freckles. Her morph is really cute. I went ahead an got her so I could see how she looked without Teen Jane. If she looked good without her, I'd wait to pickup Jane another day when money wasn't so tight. If she didn't, well, I still wouldn't be getting Teen Jane right now, but I'd consider getting her in the future just for Sara. Fortunately, I like her morph without Teen Jane just as much and she still looks like a really young person.

I might have gotten a little carried away with the postwork. This is just a first test render, but I really like how she looks.

    Thanks, @Hylas! :)

I think that's from the base Genesis 8 figure. Not sure. Looking at the promos, her mouth is definitely smaller with Teen Jane added in. I might play with some dials to make the mouth a little smaller to see if I can get closer to the promo images. I just finished another render overnight that looks just as nice. I love the way she renders.

    I'll post it soon.
