And here comes my second probably-soon-to-be entry. Say hello to Molly, a slightly younger teen girl with an A3-like face. I tried to mimic how A3 realistic looks like, therefore I focused on her face only. As the base, I used YT5 with Andrea custom character (I also took UberEnvironment lights from this set). Then I started to sculpt Molly's face to be less teen-like. I took advantage of Genesis Resource Kits mainly. It's also my first attempt at shaders also known as colours. I changed the look of Casual Afternoon clothes and that lovely bracelet from Summer Dress. I don't know if the character qualifies for the competition, but nevertheless I'm going to use it in future renders as it meets my needs perfectly.
Facial dials:
mouth corners up 1.00
mouth shape 1.00
narrow nostrils 1.00
short nose 0.87
eyes open more 0.32
I can definitely see the resemblance to A3 Realistic! I haven't used A3 much (though I do own the figure and morphs) so I had to dial up A3 Realistic to remember what she looks like... Molly's lips are a bit large, and her chin a tad square, but she does look very close. And the Andrea texture works very nicely.
Beautiful, and--yes--kind of chilling character. I love your first render of her. At first the render struck me as somehow familiar, and then I remembered I've got a WIP scene featuring the same set, with a (slightly) similar-looking elven character wearing the same hairstyle kneeling down at the very same location in the set. I was working on the scene for the Stonemason contest, but haven't finished it up yet. Weird...
Thanks! As to the coincidence, well I bet it's not a coincidence at all. I have it on good authority that this corner of the enchanted forest is the absolute best spot for fae women to kneel down and get their water. They all go there!
At least, so I hear. ;)
Aldrak were finetuned a bit more, and I did some more images with him (including some that are posted in other threads, not here though :) )
I realise that the picture called Aldrak - After the Fight might be a little bit too much, but it was the less I could make it look with the things I have. I used Gore-Dom on him, since I don't have any LIE wounds/Scars/etc and haven't learnt to do those in Photoshop either.. so yeah. If it's too much please remove it and I try to make another non fighting pic. I did wanted it here due to him being a fighter, så decided it was worth a try (and I've been harassing the admins with my emails lately so felt they deserved a rest from me *smiles*)
Anyhow.. the pictures are:
Aldrak raw renders - collage
Aldrak - After the Fight
Aldrak - Early Morning Tea
On to something else that Gedd wrote in the entry thread...
Very nice character Satira. This and many of the other great characters brings up a good question about if people creating them mind us including them in our runtime. Szark luckily included his wishes on this with his great characters. If others would chime in it would be great. I'm guessing many figure if the specs are posted, it's given to the community, but I like to be clear on things like that as I don't want to step on any artists toes... attrib requests would be good to include for instance. :)
...
In my case I would say it is allright if others use the same dials I have used when making Aldrak, especially as there is things I want to do with him that I can't due to not having the resources. All I ask is that 1. No one use him for this contest. 2. No one use him as their own morph in other morphing contests (similar to this one). 3. That the name changes if someone decide to use him.
I don't think that is too much to ask for and I hope that whoever wants to use him don't feel I'm way out of line, but this character has grown a lot on me.. and he is also my very first morphed character that I've created *warm smile*
Cecilia, I'm looking forward to sharing some feedback on your first project. Did you see my post and chohole's asking if it's okay to move your entry from the entries thread to this one? (Or, since you've posted the images here now yourself, can you manually remove the images from your post in the entries thread?)
Thank you, I removed my entry and stated the space is reserved for future use as the picture's currently receiving feedback. It's very kind of you and Chohole to let me do so. Feedback is what each of us is likely to crave for! :-)

And the Andrea texture works very nicely.
She does qualify, if you’d like to enter her.
You're making my day! The chin and lips were what I decided to change. I'd glad there's still some likeness. I'll include her as a second entry, but I need to think up a nice plain background to put her on. Any ideas? Also... Do you think the lights are okay? It's what - besides camera - I need to learn more. At the moment, I use UberEnvironment for all final renders (set for the highest quality, now I can afford it :-P) and presets from Lantios (Portrait Lights and Fashion Lights) and the ones that are included in Andrea package. I think some of Raiya's characters have lights too, but I'd have to check it.
Carola, if I can suggest something... Saving things as scene subsets is great, in my humble opinion, of course. You can attach clothes, hair and lights to a single file and load everything with one click. If I'm right, it's easier to build up scenes from scene subsets as they're a bit easier to merge (at least for me), not to mention they shouldn't erase everything you have done previously. I tend to save my characters and small scenes as such.
Storypilot, thanks so much for your comment. In fact, I want to thank everybody making even the smallest suggestions, it helps a lot.

Thanks cecilia :) I do like scene subsets too.. but usually only save things I am not done with, or parts of a bigger scene etc as that. I do think I will keep Aldrak saved as scene subset for the time being atleast, and the scenes I do with him will most probably be saved as scenes once they are done.
Many thanks for your input *hugs warmly*
Oh and to merge scenes into something you are working on, without having the scene replace what's on your workspace.. just rightclick the scene, and choose merged insead of double clicking (not sure if you knew that or not, so felt I might as well give the advice.. if nothing else perhaps someone else find it useful *smiles* )

No, I sometimes forget to look at what thread I'm in so I've posted to the Entries thread where I thought I was in the WIP... I've just removed some of my posts in this thread as they were not meant to be in this thread. I apologize to all for the mixup and will pay more attention in the future.
I am very honoured to present my first set of characters for DAZ Studio's Genesis: Nyiramachabelli. The name of the set derives from Rwandese language, meaning "the woman that lives alone on the mountain" - the nickname the Rwandan called Dian Fossey, the prominent primatologist and one of so-called "Leakey's Angels" who devoted her life to preservation and studying of mountain gorillas (Gorilla beringei beringei). I highly doubt there's anybody who doesn't recognize this great figure of modern science, but in case it happens, I copied some links that should be helpful. I chose to recreate her look, because I am very keen on primates myself and I love Gorilla for Genesis package. However, all the photographs I was able to find of her were of very poor quality and therefore I decided to recreate how Sigourney Weaver looked when she played Fossey in "Gorillas in the Mist", the famous documentary based off Fossey's book.
I focused on mimicking Fossey-Weaver's face. The photographs I used for references are avalaible here, here and here.
This character was done with various Resource Kits for Genesis, Young Teens 5 and Stephanie 4 for Genesis as well as Genesis Evolution Morph Bundle. I cannot texture, though I'd like to learn how to do it, so I used V5 Elite Texture Valerie. However, for the eyes, Andrea for YT5 came in handy (her eyes are beautiful). As for the clothes, I dressed the character in Octavius' shirt and pants, the boots from Forest Scout and Dragonlord's bracers. I had a problem with the hairstyle, though. I do not have a proper one, for example Tears Hair for Genesis. Therefore I used Loreley Hair, which I find very difficult to pose.
Despite this fact, I had a lot of fun working on this piece in DAZ Studio 4.5 - I want to try out all the improvements DS 4.6 has to offer as soon as I can. I wonder if there will be some nice shaders to use on my gorillas? Speaking of them, I find it really disturbing that DAZ doesn't have any decent primates on offer - despite Gorilla for Genesis. I mean, Silverkey3D's Monkey (which is a macaque, after all!) is okay, but is gets a bit too cartoony at times, whereas Millennium Chimpanzee and Millennium Gorilla just don't stand the times. I really hope they'll improve on this matter, but meanwhile, I had to help myself without it. Gorilla for Genesis is one of my favourite packages, but there's one thing I find tricky: it shows a mature male gorilla - and I wanted kids. Especially the head's shape was tough, female gorillas have them smoother, less egg-shaped. This is how I came up with my gorillas - Cookie, Mekombo, Digit and Binky, which, apart from Digit, are all custom morphs as follows...
Digit, Fossey's favourite, is a pure Gorilla for Genesis (1.00), I didn't do anything on this figure. As for the little gorillas (from left to right):
- Mekombo and Binky:
Gorilla for Genesis 1.00
Basic Child 1.00
Baby AT 0.10
- Cookie:
Gorilla for Genesis 1.00
Basic Child 1.00
What I did to recreate the protagonist of "Gorillas in the Mist" starring Sigourney Weaver as Dian Fossey:
Very nice image, and I can tell you put a lot of work into it. Your human character does have a definite resemblance to Sigourney Weaver, though I think her eyes are a bit big and her jaw a little on the small side, making her look a little Aiko-like; less realistic than she could be.
For the gorillas: I agree with you that it's too bad there isn't a young gorilla morph included in the Gorilla for Genesis product. Your youngsters do have an appropriately youthful appearance, but the head shape does look pretty different from actual juvenile gorillas, particularly that ridge as you pointed out. If there's a way you can get rid of it, or at least lessen it somewhat, that would probably improve things...I imagine that would be challenging though, especially since the gorilla doesn't have separate head and body morphs. Since you asked about that sort of thing anyway with regards to the Faerie, you might be interested in Vaskania's method (I saw this recently and haven't tried it yet myself).
The other thing I might wish for as far as the gorillas is concerned is a bit more variety in their facial features. Sure, to an average human, all gorillas look pretty similar. But I bet they didn't to Fossey. She could (if I'm not mistaken) recognize them as individuals, and it would be nice to see some hints of that come out in your render.
Finally, the realism of the gorillas could be improved with the addition of some fur. If you don't own Look At My Hair or Garibaldi (either of which would do nicely here, I think), consider picking up the free Look At My Hair Free Player. There's even a gorilla preset available for it (also free). Or, you could paint some fur in postwork, if your skills lie in that direction (mine don't). Not essential of course--without the fur they still look fine--but might be a nice addition.

Here is what I created when I first saw this challenge. I started an image but I'm not very happy with it so I'm not sure if I will take this any further. But... I would like any and all, the good, the bad, and the ugly, commentary on thoughts about this character...
THAT'S what Genesis is missing. Extra geocrafted heads!
If anyone is interested how I made my enrty that has now been removed (don't ask) from the contest can find the reciepe on my DA page
Thank you Szark... I really liked it, a lot... and hadn't taken down the recipe. I was curious why as I thought it was a front runner, but I'll keep my curiosity in check. :)
Carola, thanks for your tip on merging. That's what I had to do when I saved things as scenes previously on 32-bit version of DS. Now I'm a little bit wiser and mainly use presets - maybe because I tend to use DAZ Studio as the first level software - mainly for creating human and humanoid characters as well as some animals - which then is developed in PowerPoint (yep, most people know 30% of whay MS Office can be used for!). That's what photomanipulators call stock images. Regarding Aldrak, I found a nice bloody skin on Rendo, take a look if you want: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=99606&&AID;=408.
Scott, I am astonished and ashamed to hear such flattering information :-D! I thought the worst thing in Gorilla for Genesis is the inability to smooth the top of its head. I tried different sliders, but what I got was frustrating (you know, it looked like a coconut smashed on its head leaving a hole). I was forced to let the top be as that. I changed small gorillas' faces with the sliders that Basic Child and Baby for Genesis allow, Resource Kits were demolishing the apes completely. I wonder why, they ought to work fine. Never mind. The thing with the faces is most crucial in your comment (apart from bad tops). I love primates and frankly, each of them is different and unique. People who know me are shocked when I show them photographs of inhabitants of Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre, because they can't tell a difference between my adoptive Joly and Silvestre, let's say (apart from the size as Silvestre is still a toddler). For me or the keepers, things like that are obvious, I think, so I loved to see you think the same. I hope the facial sliders are going to be developed with future Generation 6 (Victoria 6 arrived today, by the way, so I hope for new gorillas, kids and mermaids - end of off-topic :-)). Then further tweaking would be possible. I encourage everybody to mess around with similar dials. Maybe Muscularity would do the trick? That way we could make some faces more bulgy, so to speak. Or flatten them a bit. I don't have the set, so anybody who has it would be kindly encouraged to try my idea ;-). At the moment, I'm going to work on developing Molly's background. If anybody wants to suggest a setting, let me know and I'll consider it. Thank you!

looked at that.. however, it's not a skin per say.. it is a character... and I rather not give my manly Aldrak some nice boobs *grins* Thanks for the thought though *hugs*
You can use V4 skins for a male with Genesis but some V4 textures have shadowing under the breast which is a real pita to get rid of in my experience so they always need to wear a shirt, they also only work if you aren't planning to do nudes.
Thanks Scorpio *smiles* I might buy Atlas... wonder how well my skintone on Aldrak will take on that skin though... and need to figure out if I can afford it or not this month too.. *laughs* Kinda put basically all my spending money on the V6 stuff and some pc items etc :) Atlas did have a godo price though.... *ponders*
He isn't a M4 texture though, and that slashed one requires a bit more knowledge in photoshop than I have *laughs* thanks though :) I do plan to check in the LIE wounds and such.. but I am hoping to catch them when they are at sale :)
Atlas though.. is of itnerest.. if not for Aldrak, than I Know I can use him on other characters for sure.. *ponders*
Carola, try searching Deviantart for free stock images of blood and scars. There's a very decent community of photomanipulators and stock providers there, you can get PSD layers (no need for Photoshop, there are freewares that convert them) or PNGs. Just paste them onto a texture - MS Office programmes work fine for me in this case.
Also, I post a simple picture with Molly. The background is a slightly altered free background from Teknology3D "Inspirational Bokeh Pack" (http://www.teknology3d.com/market/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=353). Wooden floor is a texture from MS Office. I also want to photomanipulate a scene with her. I think about a title like that "Phoebe goes downtown" product in the shop, but with holidays instead.

You can use V4 skins for a male with Genesis but some V4 textures have shadowing under the breast which is a real pita to get rid of in my experience so they always need to wear a shirt, they also only work if you aren't planning to do nudes.
If you are looking for a cut bleeding male texture Atlas is a very good one.

or Spartacos by the same vender

Thanks Scorpio *smiles* I might buy Atlas... wonder how well my skintone on Aldrak will take on that skin though... and need to figure out if I can afford it or not this month too.. *laughs* Kinda put basically all my spending money on the V6 stuff and some pc items etc :) Atlas did have a godo price though.... *ponders*
There is also this
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/slashed-bundle---a-v4-ready-merchant-resource--/96085/
which can be added to any texture, its made for V4 but I don't see why it couldn't be used on a M4 texture, you need something like either Phototshop or GIMP for it though.
