    The Dwelling (Magix 101)
    http://www.daz3d.com/the-dwelling

The All New Worldbase XT Lushlands
    http://www.daz3d.com/the-all-new-worldbase-xt-lushlands

Currently on sale for 60% off, so thought I'd share some views of it with you. (Taking a break from animation.)

The two "outhouses" (I know, what a name. But not what you think.) load separately and are the buildings out front.
I'm testing the thumbnails, will share as I go. These are obviously not renders, but thought you might be curious as to what does what. Will render one of them shortly.

EDIT: Added second set of photos.

Am rendering with the "3 light" preset so you can see it. Not adding any other lights. You get a nice night scene. Coming in a few minutes.

LOL!! Your in my head again. Working on a render right now that uses the World Base XT Lushlands. I've been told my WIP shown to few was looking very good.

I admit I've been curious about that house Novica, but wasn't sure how it would look close up... since I tend to do mostly closeup renders.

Jaderail, what can I say about great minds thinking alike? :) I'm just trying to showcase some of the stuff on sale, you're doing it for artistic purposes. Carry on :) Mine will just be quickies of the buildings "out of the box."

Will do a closeup when I get my lights added- still just showing the set backgrounds with the lights that come with it. They render in under FIVE MINUTES folks- so if looking for a set that loads and renders fast, this is one of them. My shading rate is .30 too!

This one is the last one featured in the screenshots. It has the 3 light setting, none added.

Forgot to add- you can see the artifacts- there are two lights with deep shadow maps. Turning those off and going to raytraced. Also changing the lights to see what bright lights and different colors will do, one of the lights is a very dark mauve so switching to a warm light yellow. Back in a few.

POSTING RENDERS IN A MINUTE- But Jaderail, please check yours after you read this-

Okay, same setting, all shadows raytraced and increased (I like mine 30% up, with several 50% up) and the main ambient light increased to upper 90's. I left all the cameras where they were.

THERE IS A PROBLEM- is it because I went to raytracing? YOU CAN SEE THE MESH? Look at the foothills! There are square grids across them!

EDIT: It's still coming in. Here's a screenshot- it's not as visible but you can at least hopefully see what I'm seeing. Look at that "cone" mountain rising up on your left that is well lit. The others on the right also have grid lines. Render almost done.

Subdivide the meshes that have the grids. That should eliminate them. There is a thread about that somewhere on the forum.

Some of these larger sets have a error that let the mesh show sometimes, I think its the lighting that causes that. In your lights on some of these large mesh sets keep the Shadow BIAS as low as possible. I'm at .10 and get no mesh bleed in my renders. This is often the issue on large mesh sets with lots of morphs built in. Not just this one.

EDIT: SUB D will work but will double the RAM needed for the item. Shadow BIAS is a ram friendly fix.

Okay, I'm canceling the render and will switch the shadow bias down. Thanks you two, good to know! :)

I think I is uberenvironment 2 which causes it to show. One of the reasons I didn't play with this setting by at much. I like using whatever lights I please.

Yep UBER is also another cause some times. But it is just a setting. I use this set and some Firstbaston ones often and it really depends on the settings in the Uber lights. Is one reason I own many different lighting sets. I hardly ever build a full set myself, and if I get a error in one set I just swap to a set that is close to my first choice. I'm a Load and go type person, comic book stuff needs speed to build. But right now I have time to play as I'm not after 12 renders a day.

This is 2 distant lights and a spotlight- and lowering shadow bias to .10 just made the lines even crisper! Will let the render finish, but need a different fix obviously. Tell me about sub-d as I am not sure what to test there?

EDIT, thanks Barbult, saw your EDIT with the link. Here's the info from that thead:
To Sub-D go to Edit > Object > Geometry > Convert to Sub-D and this WIL get rid of the lines

Just SUB D the items that are showing the MESH that should do it. Just double whatever it is set to now.

Jaderail, can you check and see what lights you are using? Like I said, this is just 2 distant and a spot. Are you using all raytraced shadows on that .10? Mine are.

A bit of an explanation- Sub-d means subdivide the mesh? Making the polygon grids (mesh) more cut up into smaller sections?

EDIT: Canceling the render, taking too long, here is a screenshot with the shadow bias to .10 you can see how the lines are crisper. :)
    Will try Sub-D.

So I am assuming that when I do the Edit>Geometry thing, I go into Mesh Resolution (Parameters) and the SubDivision was 1.0 so I am doing it at 2.0. Will let you know how that goes. THEN I'll do the closeup for you SereneNight :) if this works.

EDIT: Appears to be working, and coming in fast. Not seeing any slowdown. Will post when done, it tends to slow down a LOT when it gets to the building. That happened when I switched to raytraced- the first ones with shadow maps zipped right along. Is that typical?

Status: 54% at 15 minutes. Top steeple of building done, is working on the bottom section, including the side wall on the right. It always pauses there for several minutes. Looking very, very pretty. It would take longer if I had the grassy plane by the house, but I was primarily testing the building and background. Just so you know it's not a complete scene. Will post the renders here in about fifteen minutes I think.

If I remember there is one 'ring' which tends to have lines, even when you make adjustments. You can hide it. It was never fixed, but I remember hiding it in my renders and having the rest work ok.

Going to do a closeup for you. Pick a spot. You want the front by the picnic tables, or up by the steeples, etc? I will leave the background out so it will render faster. This one will be done in a few minutes.

sounds good. I have a character who I think might suit the environment, but as of yet, I haven't' seen the close-up textures in this set.

One hour and fifteen minutes (without the ground grass, so expect longer) at a shading rate of .30 and 900 x 675 pixels.
The subdivision level was upped from 1 to 2, as suggested. Pixel Samples: 9 Pixel Filter Width 9.14

As you know, I don't give specific details on the vendor's lights (that's not fair) but I will tell you my tweaks.

Main amb shadow softness 39.5%, Raytracing (on this and all of them) Light gray light 109.2% (light this scene more than you think.)
Back light Main 49.2 Shadow Softness, 370.3%, same light gray. This is a spotlight.
Side Light 49.2%, lighter gray, 95.1%

Not too much I am I interested in today either, I am nabbing the fur and LAMH free player and see how that works. The store is flooded with new female characters, I am holding out for some new men. Seems for every one male character that comes out, there are 4 women...lol

Make sure you get the public beta version of LAMH, otherwise DS crashes. You can find where to download the most recent viewer (and full beta, if you own LAMH) here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/33792/

I got very upset because DS kept crashing the instant I loaded any of the fur presets. Once I downloaded the recent releases, everything was fine. A bit annoying that you need the beta version of the plugin for this to work -- it seems to me that if you own the product sold at DAZ, you should be able to use the DAZ accessories for the plugin without having to go to another site to make it work. It works, but still...

Trish can tell you all about THAT, lol. She was the queen of battle when it came to LAMH. Jaderail almost pulled out all his Drow hair trying to help her!

As I understand it, the Beta is becoming the RC (release candidate). If all goes well with the Beta testers, the RC will become the DIM Update for the product. So patience, it's coming, and it will be an even better product when it does. :)

They have done a remarkable job fixing it. Both LAMH and Garibaldi are great products but I use them for different things. The now working LAMH beta is really good, the older version was not 100% compatible with .duf format.

I use Garibaldi for hair and LAMH for fur, but thats my personal preferences.

What Drow hair? This is a wig. Ask Totte he knows. If I was not rendering I'dd hook my backup drive in and show you the Bald Wizard Jade.

EDIT: The render times with RAY Traced shadows leaped because those plants use transmaps I bet.

I remember reading this when I researched transparency maps.

This was in the old one- it had a nice definition/explanation.

Gotta go get some sleep. Hope I don't dream about a bald Drow.

While browsing the store, I've been musing over Scott-Livingston's question of budget buys. Just wanted to thrown in a few suggestions while the big sales are still live. They could end today, but if you catch them in time, check out:

    Freak 5 Big Sweater http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-hair-clothing-sale/freak-5-big-sweater
$1.95 if you are in the PC (otherwise $2.78). As a Genesis item, it will fit other characters, though maybe not as nicely as it does Freak.

    Dynamic Scarf http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-hair-clothing-sale/dynamic-scarf
    $1.95 ($2.78 non-PC)

    Rope Sandals for V5 http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-hair-clothing-sale/ropesandals-for-v5
$2.23 -- these look pretty although I don't own them myself; they fit V5 and also Genesis Female

    Cute3D Rose Heels http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-hair-clothing-sale/cute3d-rose-heels
    $2.39 -- also pretty, these have fits for V5, S5, A4, V4, G4.... also Freak 4 and Hiro 4?!

There are also some outfits for under $4 (PC prices, a little over $5 for non-PC). This is just a selection:

Women & Girls by Bobbie25 and Sarsa
    Breezy Wear http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-hair-clothing-sale/breezy-wear
$3.63 -- sweet summer outfit with nice texture, not too skimpy
    Lacy Dress http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-hair-clothing-sale/lacy-dress
$3.63 -- micro skirt, but pretty
    Prep Gear http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-hair-clothing-sale/prep-gear
$3.63 -- nice non-skimpwear outfit for girls and women

    Men by Bobbie25 and Sarsa
    Colonel Chaos http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-hair-clothing-sale/colonel-chaos
$3.63 -- one for the tough guys, not my thing but it includes boots and weapon accessories

    Sci Fi by Oskarsson
    Space Age Behemoth Outifit http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-hair-clothing-sale/space-age-behemoth-outfit
$3.63 -- if you don't have the Behemoth, don't be put off. This Genesis outfit looks like it fits the female in the promo beautifully. Includes boots, gloves and goggles.
