Yeah, Filatoon is turning out to be even better than I had hoped!
That's looking great! And good work on the speech bubble as well!
Speech bubble was achieved via Comic Life 3. The image is cropped because of it's mature nature. I have the full image here: https://www.deviantart.com/grfk-dsgn/art/At-the-beach-1119409107

Unfortunately, it seems i've come across a pretty glaring issue with the FilaToon geometry shell outline shader.
It casts shadows, causing extra shadows to appear in places where it shouldn't. This could be fixed by giving it the same cast/recieve shadows option that the main FilaToon shader has, and having it default to off.
Daz is aware of the issue
Thanks :) I reported it as well
Hi!
Do I need DAZ 4.23 for toon? I bought the Yakura figure and the toon essentials but all I get in 4.22 is a pitch black figure (no error messages).
As a test, I loaded a scene created in 4.23 with 4.22.0.19.
It seems to be impossible.
The number of settings in the “Filament Draw Option” menu is completely different.
Are there still bugs and problems with 4.23? I stll hesitate to install the new version.
So far I have not encountered any critical bugs in 4.23.
Not everyone will use all the features, so the bugs encountered will vary from person to person.
Small bugs have been around since 4.22.0.19, so I think it is better to give up on them to some extent and make a choice based on whether they are usable for you.
I guess I would keep 4.22 separately and try 4.23.
FilaToon sometimes suddenly stops displaying figures.
When that happens, restart DazStudio to recover.
Yes, for General Releases the current build is required - or the later public builds leading up to it.
I think this turned out pretty well. I tried adding some detail to the textures that I noticed in Mikey 9 and Vicky 9.
How did you get the paint stroke look on the skin? I'm assuming a postwork filter?
A combination of a Photoshop action from Spoon Graphics that I tweaked to my liking (link below)

And
NIK Collection - HDR Efex Pro 2
That turned out good :) I'm watching Arcane 2nd season at the moment and noticing how much of a painterly effect they incorporated
I like the GTA effect. I'm also partial to Adam Hughes, Alan Davis and Don Newton. Their styles are not really painterly but I like the crispness of their work.
I am at a loss. I read that we can use the shader on anything. That's awesome. I'm wanting to get the skin texture that shows on Aiko 9 and Vickie on a G8 character. Is this possible?
The shader yes, but the skin texture would be using a different uv map. I'm not sure if there is a conversion where you can use G9 textures on G8, someone else might know :)
There's a "Legacy UVs" product to use G9 textures on G8F: https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-9-uvs-for-genesis-8-and-81-female
Not sure how well that would work with the Filatoon settings though.
I'm running into issues where the toon morphs or correctives, particularly for the eyes like the highlights are being listed in the 'currently used morphs' and even dialed in for characters that are not using the toon eyes. I'm not sure how to fix that.
facs_ctrl_EyeBlinkCrescentStrength
head_ctrl_ToonIrisHighlightSpread
head_ctrl_ToonIrisHighlightSide-Side
Just with some characters/morphs? or all genesis morphs... and is it happening with posed figures, or standing in zero position. :)
Another question:
I can use Toon materials on a standard G9 figure and it looks close to the toon figures. Only problem are the eyes. Is there a way to change the eyes of a G9 figure to toon (or at least make them bigger)?
The anime figures are built on the standard G9 figure. If you load the feminine anime figure you can find the dials on the shaping tab under currently selected. Drag the Base Anime Feminine Dial to 0%
Now you have the basic G9 figure with the toon eyes, as well as all the morphs and controls for the toon eyes.
I've transferred the material from "Genesis 9 Base Anime Feminine" to "Genesis 8 Basic Female" using the "Genesis 9 UVs for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Female".
Due to the unique UV layout of the eyes, eyelashes, and eyebrows in G9 Base Anime, I've adapted the Genesis 9 Toon Anatomy(Attachment) to Genesis 8 using the Auto-Fit feature.
That's well done!! Thanks for sharing your results and process.
@Mada Thank you for kick starting my brain again. I knew that. I just didn't remember when I needed it.
I already have that package. I feel like I should have known this. Thank you all for your patience with me. For the extra tip @Ces3D thank you. :)
In fact, I have all the G9 to (other G figure) packages. Now I'm excited to try this transfer procedure on them too! WOOT! If I can get it to work like decribed, look out world!
That looks great! I really like the way the shadows came out. I'm still having a problem getting shadows the way I like in FilaToon, And it's not misogynistic at all! Pretty girls in bikinis are all over women's magazines!
Yes, that happened to me. The figure completely disappeared and then DS crashed.
