I really like this "foil" shader you have created. It gives the items a textured feel and does interesting things with the light.
Thanks Kismet. Apparently I was doing what they want (now) in the contest, but nobody said a word. Tired of it.
I'm having a lot of fun with these, but I doubt I will ever post over there again.
I transited into making better seamless images for tiling. I am pretty happy with my tooled leather shader.
The belt on the boot is a distressed leather shader I made. I've used the map for a bit, but it is so much more versatile now, I made it seamless as well and a little tiling adjustment makes it work on a lot of stuff.
what is really fun with the tooled preset is that with just a diffuse color change it goes to fabric very well.
Marta Update. I think I finally whipped my chain mail issue, at least till I look at it next week. I trashed all I had done and started over. Seamless really helps, and I feel silly having forgotten that. Still learning to navigate Corel.
Shield is a new flecked steel preset I made, the base texture was a free swatch jpg of foiled wall paper :)
More shader preset experimentation. Scifi bunny top and Wilmap Tights, both using the same "mesh" shader I made, but the tights have an opacity map added.
I especially like that last one!
Thanks Mori. All I'm getting done is shader preset experiments :)
However, it is Halloween time.
"Having forgot about the halloween party, she had to make do with a couple rolls of kitchen foil and tape to go as Fantasy Warrior Girl"
Well, I decided I'm stuck in a rut. I always do DnD stuff.
So.. this is a first char for something else. I always loved Firefly and the mix of genre, going to try that.
My main effort actually was getting a scuffed and roughed up look to the jacket, tweaked my distressed leather shader.
Also my first effort with a shader only scene. All I did was tweak the brick color, but eh, have to start someplace.
Oh, that helmet, I've had it since it was a DAZ freebie, bout a year maybe, and nothing I did would make the visor transparent. So, I quit messing with it, threw my green glass shader on it and tweaked it black. So happy the newbie contest pushed me into trying them.
added another char for my scene that is yet to be figured out. Lots of shader presets made and used.
Very nice use of materials and I'm loving the concept.
No reflection on you but the jacket annoys me as it doesn't hang right (one of those comments which is going to muck things up). Why does it stick to the underside of her breast, surely it should hang down from the crest?
its a freebie gift jacket from Share CG with limited morphing. Im on a very tight budget, so, no new jacket :(. But I know what you mean. Conforming clothes are nice, but sometimes I wish they wouldn't so much.
wip for the noobie contest, maybe.
Just kinda happened. I call it "Tourists!!"
Standfast; you are making progress in leaps and bounds on the textures, shaders ect...beautiful things ....What corel program are you using?? I think you should enter....(you are way ahead of the game) in my view...Trish
its um..Corel PaintShop Pro x5. My wonderful son just bought it out of the blue for me one day :)
And thanks, but entering, no. I showed horses too long and too hard, I'm terribly competitive, and I decided I don't want that in a hobby that is supposed to be fun for me :)
Look at you, quick learner or what! Great work with the shaders (addictive, aren't they?) and I just love Marta.
fantastic work on the shaders I especially like the mesh one
thanks Kharma :)
I just HAVE to post a close up of my distressed stuff.
I like your characters' facial expressions- you don't overdo them- they're just right. They convey the emotions very clearly and don't look like mannequins or drama queens. The body poses are also that way, not overdone and nicely stated, and I really like the lighting on several of these. So happy you're sharing with us!
Cathie
Thanks so much Novica, and everyone else that encourages me. This shader thing has really kicked up the level of this hobby for me. I see shaders in junk, old boots, buttons, lol.. everywhere and I cant stop fooling with them.
It was nice to hear you like my poses. I often think I understate them, but I did miniatures for years, and extreme poses were generally fail unless you were a master like Shep Paine.
I can think of soo many things to do with this kind of thing.
The possibilities are endless with that one, very nice!
Still have to get into shaders, myself (sticking to using preset shaders mostly), but I'm thouroughly enjoying your progress there. For me, most of the fun is in the posing, right now. As you say, there is a time and place for extreme posing, but you have to know where and when to pull that.
No, your insane thief would commission 100 statues of himself :).
I love all of this stuff though, I could play with textures all day, and shaders are just a fast one click to do that :)
this is something I have never tried, the pretty face close up. Wow, its hard. I have a greater appreciation for people who can do this for sure.
This is Star Book's redo of the Catrina skin. Bubblegum hair is the only set I have that stood the close up. (hampton, huhwhat)
New char, going all out traditional elf somewhat, heart shape face, bigger, slightly tilted eyes, etc.
anyhow, here she is. No name as of yet, perhaps Seshin.
I tried using the AoA subsurface.. um.. no. the basic preset pulled her lips apart, showed her teeth and gave her a very odd look I could not fix, as it only appeared in render. I undid the shader preset.. and then it only rendered pure white, so I had to redo the skin. I've seen what it can do, it seems a nice tool, but right now I am not a fan lol.
Ok, glamour elf didn't get a callback. I added new image, Zoey skin, changes. I just like plainer people.
Don't get me started on Hampton Hair, lol! I still use it for one of my Test Subjects, but it's horrid for close-ups. Still have to try the Ubersurface and phantom occlusion trick on it some day..
I don't know if you've ever stumbled across this tutorial for Human Surface shaders, but I find that it does help make the skin look a lot better. https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/entries/20658113-how-to-use-the-elite-human-surface-shaders You might want to have a peek at it.
I do like the close up and I agree that they are often tricky (and yet I can never resist doing them - especially the Moody Ranger does well on them)!
So, I decided that this would be Kindal, one of the youngest and brattiest of the clan. She is a Fae in Everquest, it goes with the territory.
Anyhow.. rough work.
"I didn't shoot no arrows in no beehives"
ok, today I downloaded Wilmap's 60s suits.. and then, well I just had to. Tried to incorporate the WORST of 60s institutional posters. It will go in my "tourist" render.
Experimenting to make a velvet -look shader without going to subsurface or mixers.
put on a black background to over-emphasize the little "aura" coming off the soft fibers. I set my own hunt cap in a sunny window and worked to get that effect, rather than fur. (guilty about the pinks, Ill make a nice tweed shader later)
Wilmap's riding attire, StarBooks mat on the breeches.
I dunno. I like it.
Goofing off. Since I wandered off into the future space corporate thingy, for halloweenish thing I decided to do this.
I mean, what sort of Evil Space corporation would NOT be doing evil mind control stuff in the back lab? A happy work force is a productive work force, right? And you just KNOW they are evil.. spike heels?
this bit of silly is called "How long till this one is ready"
Its a mess, dunno how much I'll fool with it. Kinda took off from making my poster girl and getting the dystopia console free last week.
Honest, someday I will put more guys in, but atm I have jeremy sample skin and two really bad haircuts. I rarely like any guy I make.
more playing with bumps, shaders, poly selection.
Chest is something called Fractal camo I found on the interweb
More ruination of other people's products with my shaders/color experiments.
Wanted an assassin-ish thing.
I decided a niiinjaa with all that skin showing was problematic, so I went this way, and added some smudgie to her face.
"Why do I always have to be the Bait?"
fixed some stuff.
