Horo, mermaid : thank you.
mermaid : awesome landscape.
mermaid010, the landscape is beautiful. I like that you were able to get the breaking waves around the shoreline, very realistic.
adbc, how amazing it is to have two completely different looking images just with lighting and materials. They are both gorgeous.
& the next waterfall is Blue Springs Falls. Still not what I'm looking for, but I do like the water texture right before the falls.
While my last waterfall was rendering I created this spacescape & did a technique I never tried before. I put an earth image on the moon ( sky lab ) then places a & scaled a sphere with a earth map in front of the moon ( blend transparency ). The placed & scaled a radio light with a earth map in front of the sphere set to visible & flare.
Thanks Horo, Adbc and NGartplay
SRay - the Blue Spring Falls has a painterly effect, very nice. I really like the Another Earth, very nice effect, thanks for sharing how you did it.
S Ray : wonderful images, the effect in the second one is really nice.
NGartplay : thank you.
Wow S Ray, both are very well done. I think you did get the look of a waterfall at the top of the falls, perfect. I like the soft, billowing spray at the bottom too. Maybe just a bit closer to the pool of water at the bottom? The alien landscape is very good. I like the composition and it makes you feel utterly alone.
oops 2
oops
S Ray - good work on the waterfall, not yet perfect but good progress, the upper part is very good. The second is an interesting scene with the "earthy" moon, I also like the rock.
Again a terrain made from an HDRI, which also makes part of the sky. Mountain blocks like islands in the landscape.
Horo - another outstanding render.
Horo, gorgeous image. The sky is very cool, almost like domes on the landscape.
I added a touch of postwork to this. Can't have a spaceship without propulsion and I couldn't find my Bryce propulsion object.
The planet is Oceana Petrolia, a planet with a sea of a petroleum type oil and islands that burn off the poisonous gas from underground. This island is starting to fracture. The are investigating how to stop it from igniting the petroleum.
Edit: believe the spacecraft is Pidgy's and the terrain is one from 12 years ago that was in my library. I've never used someone else's terrain until now.
Wow that's a very nice unusual scene NGartplay, I love it
Horo : cool HDRI render, awesome sky and terrain.
NGartplay : great idea, the petroleum/oil material is very well done.
Wow, just went through the last couple of pages and the images were thoroughly enjoyed and showed a most impressive level of creativity.
Hero - all of your terrains and skies are superb but I like your last two best, especially the way the sun shines through the gap in the previous image.
mermaid010 - I've always admired your color usage in your images. The distance lighthouse image is especially well done.
ADBC - very intriguing HDR terrain and beautiful skies.
S Ray - very interesting waterfalls especially the first one.
Here is something I've been messing around with. It's 4 symmetrical lattices that have been duplicated and slightly enlarged. The inner terrains have a rocky gray texture and the outer terrains use a snow/ice texture with transparency mapping based on the inner one. So the smoother areas are entirely snow and the rocky areas show through (I hope that made sense!).
The polar bear is an agent pre-DS Zygote model. Wow it's not a great model I was pleasantly surprised that, after all these years, it worked well in DS and the Bryce Bridge.
Thanks for taking a look!

Thank you mermaid010 and adbc, it took forever to render...about 13 hours....yikes.
Dan, I love the terrain work and material. Not so much the bear but it does add interest to the landscape. The flo it is standing on has excellent material.
mermaid and adbc - thank you.
NGartplay - thank you. Very detailed scene with the fires and smoke, very fitting sky and lighting. An apocalyptic scene.
Dan - thank you. I like your icy terrains, great water. Great contrast to the previous render by NGartplay, though unintentional, i reckon.
A Story of Fire and Ice...Game of Thrones in there somewhere.
Dan Whiteside - Lovely winter scene I like the texture of the snow; reminds me of Dave's Peter the Bear renders he normally posts this time of the year. Thanks for the nice comment on my renders.
NGartplay - your last image is a great concept and well executed. Also thanks for the comments.
Hero - thank you! And the two images are a nice fire and ice contrast.
mermaid010 - I'd forgotten about Peter the bear, some very nice memories there. And thanks for the comments.
And, all things considered, I hope everyone has a very happy holiday season!
Dan Whiteside : Thank you. Awesome icy landscape, great snow and water texture.
Again a terrain made from an HDRI, which also makes part of the sky. Very narrow mountain ridges with a material from the Grand Mountains set. While I worked on it, it occurred to me that this could also be a huge city, so I cobbled together a material, starting with City Maps Mech Map and having fun for several hours. Then I added the Daz AH-9100 aircraft.
Horo - these terrain images just keep getting better! Really like the first one best.
Horo, love both of these. My favorite is also the first but I enjoy the space vehicle and the landscape being turned into buildings. Amazing how you can get different looks by just changing the materials. So much imagination.
Horo - both renders are awesome, the 1st is also my fav.
Horo : the HDRI terrain renders are fantastic, I really like them both.
Thank you Dan, NGartplay, mermaid and adbc.
NGartplay: Thanks. Yes, the spikes could be made to look like trees, I think. And prehistoric was of course the idea in the third one. I think your water look from above is very nice. Really painterly effect. And fantastic looking abstract. Sliprock looks very outerworldy and the Arch-rock could be a still from a fantasy movie, well done! The Oceana Petrolia does not look like an area I would like to visit as a tourist. Very hot!
Adbc: thanks. Very extreme terrain and sky you made there (the red one), I like I, also thanks to the stark contrasts. The other one has a nice specific light among the dark parts.
Horo: Thank you. I really appreciate your positive words on my shoreline. Texturing of terrains is always hit and miss with me. Some work, some less so. I like your terrains made from HDRIs and Gas Clouds. One is more realistic than the other, but non-realistic ones can be very nice too, I think.
Mermaid010: Thank you. The sky in the dinosaur render is just one of the presets I have on my disk. I did not make it, but it fits nicely indeed. Love your views of the shore and lighthouse. You use the high-resolution set very well!
S Ray: Very nice looking water running down a slope. Maybe a bit of spray mist would be nice with it. Great look through the water too, though Horo is probably right about the edges. However, I don’t even dare to try something as complex as that. In your last waterfall, both the rocks and the waterfall look like an impressionist painting.
Dan Whiteside: Wonderful iceberg and great render of the polar bear.
I decided to also render some views of a lighthouse. The terrain is made by me from an HDRI (cannot remember which one), heavily modified, because the original was far too spikey. The first render has a sky made by David Brinnen, with no modifications, except perhaps for the location of the sun. The second one has a sky without clouds and then Pro Cloudscape 5 by David Brinnen. I modified the cloudscape slightly.
I noted in an earlier attempt to render with this cloudscape, that a spherical light created both black and white spots in the cloudscape, even with the cloudscape excluded from the light. It took me a long time to find the source of the spots. I tried all kinds of light settings, before hiding the spherical light (in the lighthouse) and that did the trick. In the meantime, I tried the sky in a new file and there again, after importing terrain, lighthouse and light, the spots appeared. But replacing the light with a new spherical light removed the issue. I have no clue why this happened.
Hansmar, I love your lighthouse, fantastic. I like the clouds in the back and the light from the lighthouse. The first one is very dark on my computer so hard to see.
